Nice layout
I had read about this place before the name change, but finally got here. The course was a little tired and cart paths were non-existant, but I can see this course being very walkable. The greens were in good shape. But the big positive here is the layout which I found very appealing. If the plans are to do some fixing up, I can see this place turning into a nice gem.
A Work in Progress
As others have noted, the course is in the midst of an ownership and management change. The course needs a lot of work to come up to speed. There is clear evidence that this work is in progress. Some of the greens had burn areas due to a lack of water. The management clearly posted a notice that there was a problem with their watering system for a few days which caused the burned areas. Bravo for them to be upfront about this.
When this course is brought up to speed it will be a fairly short but challenging course but with very narrow fairways lined with trees and creeks on every hole. Each nine holes are place in a separate valley. There are no houses around. This is a great setting. You feel as though you were out in the country. There are plenty of challenges on the course to keep you thinking. Bring a few extra golf balls.
Not worth the money
Pace of play is very slow. Staff said they were behind when I checked in 45 mins before my tee time but they said they were making up the time. Still 30 late teeing off. Waited on every tee box, sometimes 2 groups waiting on tee box. After 3 hours for 9 holes I left.
Improving
I have been playing this course for years. It is good to see it is getting back to it's old self.
Redwood Canyon vs. Willow Park
Basically no change, typical muni. Backup on 1st tee, we had a 9:22 tee time, teed it up at 9:45.
Some areas of course in good shape, some not so good. They were doing some major tree trimming on the back 9, seemed like trees were falling over! Just very large branches.
VERY Tight course
Because of a GolfNow deal, I only paid $15 for this primetime weekend round. This is a very tight course with at least two holes completely protected by trees fronting the green and many other fairways extremely narrow with either trees or creekbed and wildland banks lining them, so you better hit it straight. That being said, I hit my best finishing 8 holes, playing just 3 over par (my index is 21), so I am left with a favorable impression of this course.
Management recently changed over from private ownership to municipal, so conditions showed a lack of proper maintenance in the recent past.
Poor maintenance and bad experience
I was hoping that a change in management would help the course,, but it is now worst then ever. I only paid $25 and it wasn't worth the money.
Much Improved
Have played this course for over 30 years. It is much improved with new management!
This course needs to work on their cart paths.
The course is run down and in need of a much over due cart path renewal.
Coming around
Since new management company took over course is getting better everytime we play here. One of bay areas best kept secrets tee off before 7am and your done by 10!!!!!!!
Nice Course
This was a very nice course to play. Cart paths are a little bumpy. I will definitely play this course again. Can't wait to see what the new ownership does with this place.
Never know
Played this place 2 weeks ago and was in great condition but 2 weeks later I think the mower broke down cause tee boxes were like playing off the rough, greens you needed a driver to putt was so slow, Cart paths you need a back restraint so many potholes and don't mind that surprise ditch in the middle of the fairways that will keep your dentist employed, price was great no complaints for that one
High Hopes for New Owners
I play here frequently as I live just up the street.
The green fee is a little high given the nature of the course compared to those in the area, in that it has a lot of dirt spots and the tee boxes can be in better shape. Also, the facilities could be nicer.
It's nice to get away from the gas powered carts still. The new owners bought new electric carts.
I payed $25ish dollars a person.
All in all, I think the course will have a bright future, I hope more people start to play here to bring down the green fee. Otherwise I'll head to another course.
Location is great! Very quiet.
I like the range of skill sets here. I'm not terrible, but not brilliant. It's nice I see beginners that aren't afraid to play. Everyone is friendly.
A gem in the valley
A very nice layout. Tee boxes, fairways and some greens could use some help. People are nice, but artificial mats are not the way to go on range.
very nice
It had been awhile since I have played this golf course, it was great to play it again after all these years..
Nice day
Haven't played this course for years. New management now and it looks like they are trying to upgrade things. Course in good shape.
It's getting better
The greens were aerated a few weeks ago and are starting to roll true. Lots of wildlife and the place is fixing up the bar and pro shop. Good deal for the money with improvements in the works.
Cheap local course
People in jeans and t-shirts kind of course. The range mats are in horrible shape. On most holes you cant tell where the fairway ends and the rough begins. It's just not maintained at a high quality.
Decent if early
If u get out on an early tee time, I've rutinely finished in 3 hours or less. New management is still working out the kinks. Yardage are barely marked at all, and my cart didn't have a scorecard, nor were there any at the 2nd tee. These can be overlooked though. Course overall is very flat with creeks running down at least one side of nearly every hole. They keep the rough very long so keep your tee game up and if you're errant bring lots of golf balls. Decent muni experience overall, looking forward to seeing if new management makes more changes in weeks and months to come.
Thick fairways
The fairways were left fairly long. Perhaps to speed up play. If you had a normal roll most average golfers would be in the woods or in the creeks. It took some getting used to. It was still fun and the scenery in the canyon is beautiful.
