Not just a clever name
It really was a golf course in a canyon in the woods (although I noticed mainly oaks) , hence the name. I like it.
Front desk was friendly. Tees where a little congested but not too bad for the day of week/ holiday. Cart was in alright condition (missing some foam from the seat but clean, quick). Average course in a nice background setting,
I would say pretty beginner friendly minus a few narrow fairways. Had positive interactions with a few other groups, but didn’t like a 5 some in front of us holding play up and not seeming to care. All in all majority of people in the area seemed nice. Lots of motorcycles going by in the background but I’m used to a course near the airport so it wasn’t so bad
Range looked cool, i could see myself coming back for that or a round after checking out other courses in the area.
Greens
The majority of the greens were horrible .. Especially with the new green at #17 ... It doesn't make sense why this new green is bad ...
Conditions
Looks like improvements are being made ... good to see this ... but there is one issue , in case of an emergency, on the course, there isn't any cell phone service ...
The greens are terrible!
Please don’t sell me a Tee time when you have just punch the greens. Give me the respect and warn me before I spend my money and WASTE MY TIME! THAT WAS BS! Really! Can’t express myself.. last time I do this then.
Only 9 holes opened. The 9 holes that were opened were sanded the day before and the entire course was under construction. Not warned when booked the tee time.
Have Fun First Golf Becomes Better
First, it was great not receiving any phone calls going away from clubhouse as bandwidth varies from front and back sides. Would a cell tower or increased bandwidth in clubhouse make a difference? I guess that depends on who you are and what you’d expect from a course about 3 miles from a major city and freeway that has minimal bandwidth. For me it can all wait as bandwidth increases the minute you are near the clubhouse.
Ah. Wait. That is a great word that has been used lots when describing Redwood Canyon. And WAIT—-we did not have to wait but for a few holes and the pleasant surroundings made it easy. It was a smooth transition all day.
Today was a holiday. Jam packed. Yet we finished in 4:15 which was outstanding considering all the negative reviews suggesting otherwise.
This course has character and the approach shots far and near to these picturesque locations were noteworthy.
Course condition was average, as we played plenty of balls up, but that did not deny the experience or quality of golf we encountered.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here today having not been here in 20 YEARS!!!
Maintenance crews were everywhere trying to make improvements yet we only noticed the golf course and it’s unique character in both length and its few shorter yet wonderful risk reward holes, and it’s natural surroundings, and the potential this course has.
From the Blue Tees, the par 5 are outstanding as two are most of the time layups(9/18), one is severely uphill and reachable with two perfect shots(4), and hole 12 is a short par 5 with a false left side that will make you humble if you hit a great drive and have a hybrid or mid iron in that you should have easily reached this green in two on. Birdie is must on this hole but be careful with that left side near green as it’s runoff is treacherous. Four perfect par 5 to challenge your game.
As for the par 4, holes 1/2/6/8 are exactly what a golf course needs, with a very challenging first hole and 6th hole if you hit the lateral hazard which runs through the entire right side. Beware, as trouble is everywhere left or right out here.
The three par 3 on the front are just fine with holes 5& 7 being lengthened to appx 200 & 180 respectively, and hole 3 a mere strong wedge. The two par 3 on the back at 125 and 175 are aptly placed.
Hole 10 from the back seems like it’s about 450 but the tee was forward during to irrigation control measures that are nearly complete on entire back 9 that’s has short par 4 that require precision or a medicine ball back into fairway and a pitch and putt to save par.
If you hit a good drive birdie is in play all day on the back nine 5 par four.
So why the 5 star review? Scroll back to top and read again.
I can’t wait to come back in a few months or sooner as they aerate greens tomorrow.
For what it’s worth, I’m a +2 handicap, average about 280 off tee, and have an impeccable 7 hybrid/5wood, as well as a tour pros mid iron and short iron game. I chip as good as any tour pro, Putt well(had 31 toady) and shot 71 with 3 birds. With my +2 handicap and a course rating of 68 thats 5 over my handicap go figure…
We will play here again. And if we have to wait, we will wait patiently—
—as the course and it’s lengthened tee boxes(5/7/18?/10?18) make it about 6200-630O instead of the scorecards published 5900 yards.
Can wait in fact—-
This course could be anything…and today even with some rough edges was unique and very enjoyable. And no wait at all.

Played at the end of September on a Friday. I would have given this more stars but for a few reasons. Pace of play - when players take more than 6 to 8 shots off the tee to get to the greens, you either don't practice at all at the driving range or you don't understand etiquette in golf (everyone in your playing party is standing up at the green and you are 150 yards back hitting your 6/7th shot !!) - pick up and place it on or next to the green to practice that part of the game. Lessons are a great way to keep up with pace of play (cities offer inexpensice group lessons or you can take privates). Fairways - lots of bare spots and baked out - club contact is difficult when hitting hybrids. Most of the time, hybrids are good for fairway and first cut ball placement. Fairway bare lies cause abnormal club distance adjustments. Greens were a little chewed up around the perimeters. Staff was nice and layout is also good for a municiple course. Would be nice to have 200 - 150-100 yard markers on all holes since GPS systems can not be used (no reception out at Redwood GC). Will return, hoping course issues mentioned are looked into and addressed by mangement/greens keeper.
Great course! Soooo SLOOOWWW
5 hour 45min round on a 6200yard course is insane. Very great condition on the greens, but pace of play was an absoule joke for mid day on a monday.

We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback as we will use your review to better the experience going forward. We hope you give us another try in the near future!
Good Course
I played on Sunday after 4pm with another 2 persons. Green and fairway are good maintained overall. We couldn’t finish before sunset because group before us is significantly slow,
It is worthy trying another time.
Course is looking much better, more work to be done ... Greens are nicer ...

Hello, u000001210711. Thank you for visiting us at Redwood Canyon Golf Course. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Course Improved
Regardless of improvements and before we get into it. Canyon is a fun place to spend the day. Putting and driving range are a solid warm up before you play a round. Hang out an have drink later to reflect on the fun you had.
Improvements made. Lengthened par 3 hole 5. Lengthened par 5 hole 18.
Come out and give this place a play. Expect solitude with nature. Your cell phone won’t work. So put it away and embrace nature.

Hi, ryanarcuri. Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Redwood Canyon Golf Course.
Under construction
The back 9 is under construction, there were a bunch of workers in the fairways and the 17th was completely closed.
The front nine is flooded in several holes, even though we haven’t gotten rain in months.

Hi, kyodynsty77. We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We understand your frustration with the construction projects underway. Please bear with us as we work diligently to make improvements. We hope you'll give us another try in the future.
