Redwood Canyon Golf Course

Played at the end of September on a Friday. I would have given this more stars but for a few reasons. Pace of play - when players take more than 6 to 8 shots off the tee to get to the greens, you either don't practice at all at the driving range or you don't understand etiquette in golf (everyone in your playing party is standing up at the green and you are 150 yards back hitting your 6/7th shot !!) - pick up and place it on or next to the green to practice that part of the game. Lessons are a great way to keep up with pace of play (cities offer inexpensice group lessons or you can take privates). Fairways - lots of bare spots and baked out - club contact is difficult when hitting hybrids. Most of the time, hybrids are good for fairway and first cut ball placement. Fairway bare lies cause abnormal club distance adjustments. Greens were a little chewed up around the perimeters. Staff was nice and layout is also good for a municiple course. Would be nice to have 200 - 150-100 yard markers on all holes since GPS systems can not be used (no reception out at Redwood GC). Will return, hoping course issues mentioned are looked into and addressed by mangement/greens keeper.

5 hour 45min round on a 6200yard course is insane. Very great condition on the greens, but pace of play was an absoule joke for mid day on a monday.

I played on Sunday after 4pm with another 2 persons. Green and fairway are good maintained overall. We couldn’t finish before sunset because group before us is significantly slow,

It is worthy trying another time.

Course is looking much better, more work to be done ... Greens are nicer ...

Regardless of improvements and before we get into it. Canyon is a fun place to spend the day. Putting and driving range are a solid warm up before you play a round. Hang out an have drink later to reflect on the fun you had.

Improvements made. Lengthened par 3 hole 5. Lengthened par 5 hole 18.

Come out and give this place a play. Expect solitude with nature. Your cell phone won’t work. So put it away and embrace nature.

The back 9 is under construction, there were a bunch of workers in the fairways and the 17th was completely closed.

The front nine is flooded in several holes, even though we haven’t gotten rain in months.

The staff was kind and prompt. The pace of play wasn't that great, but that was because we had a group of 5 in front of us that were playing whack-a-mole. Not too much the Course Marshall can do about that. The course was a little dry compared to other courses, but this is NorCal, soooo...yeah!! Overall, I'd recommend this course to others.

The course layout is well thought out. If you can hit straight is can be a pretty easy round. But don't miss the fairways or you will be losing your ball.

Front nine is in great shape. Back nine is undergoing repair with new irrigation being added so it is not in the best of shape. Should be, once the work is completed. and proper irrigation can be done..

Cart paths are mostly dirt and gravel. It would be great if they were paved, but failing that at leaset the should be smoothed with new gravel laid down

I play1-2x /wk. Usually full length (6800+ yds). But, I really enjoy this little course (roughly 6200 from tips), for its natural beauty, pleasant weather, NICE GREENS, and fun layout (nice variety of holes). I personally feel it plays tougher than it's (116?) rating..and enjoy the number of different club selections required. It can sometimes present slow play, but due to its length, even slow play often results in a <4hr round. Lately, there may be more "novices" playing, but they almost always make an effort to play as rapidly as they can. A lot of course improvements completed and ongoing lately (new drainage, new and repaired tee boxes). All good stuff. I'll continue playing there every 3-4 weeks on weekends, because I feel it's very good "bang for the buck".

Love playing this course it’s super fun, one thing though the older gentleman in the pro shop is a bit weird. No issues regarding customer service or anything he was just a bit odd. Overall though I enjoy the course and will absolutely play it again.

Enjoyable- should let you know of temporary green and some ongoing work. I am sure there is a need for upgrades but always let player’s know.

Had a 2 p.m. tee time but there were 3 groups on the first tee at 2 p.m.

Finished play of 18 holes (many walked off earlier) at 7:25 p.m. -- over 5 and 1/2 hours

This is the slowest I've played in over 5 years.

About what you expect for $28. Tee boxes were a little beat up, greens were pretty good, bunkers were good but shallow, fairway was good but the ground was hard and rough varied. Staff was nice, beer was cold.

The course needs a lot of work. Lots of bare spots, Marshall’s more concerned about hunting for balls than pace of play.
