About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

18 is not a par 6
Let’s just get this out-of-the-way. The 18th hole is not a par six. The course management likes to call it that because it’s good public relations, but in the NCGA scoring system it is a par 5 and that’s how your score will be counted.
I like the course layout and the friendly staff. Of course one must get a hamburger at the 10th hole because Carlotta makes a delicious lunch. Nice putting practice area. Nice clubhouse for drinks after your round. There is a hidden short game chipping and bunker practice area about 200 yards from the clubhouse.
The course is challenging and you’ll certainly get a lot of practice off bad lies. Views from the top of the hill are splendid. It’s easy to get lost if you don’t know where you’re going because the signage is not very good on the course.
Golf carts often die in the middle of the round and you have to call the pro shop to get one delivered.
PACE of play is ok and no one is enforcing it. Pace of play is better here than at Monarch in San Leandro where a weekend round could take 5 1/2 to 6 hours . It’s a Muni, so nobody is repairing their ball marks on the green. People take their time, hit two shots, the typical.
The tee boxes are a mess. Mostly they are uneven, uphill tea boxes, often with a bridge in the middle of it.
I enjoy this course but it’s hard to get people to play with me. When I bring people to play with me, they often end up hating the course. Especially the blind shots to uphill greens.
This is a pretty good course for the money, and it is a lovely environment, very quiet and nestled among nature. Don’t bring your high handicap beginners here, there is a nine hole course for them, which is equally challenging.

This place is really falling apart
First off lets start with the fact they have no carts and have needed to get new ones for years now.....our Tee Time was 1:30 and we had to wait 40 mins for a cart,(so we tee'd off at 2:10)meanwhile everyone with tee times after us that was walking got waived thru which slowed everything when we did get a cart.I got to 4th hole and the cart died(ridiculous they have raised there fees substantially they need to invest in the course so its efficent)
ok for conditions,granted its a hill course which is hard to keep everything green and nice but even shots in the middle of the fairway end up on dirt most of the shots.
greens were ok but over watered,maybe a little less water on them and more on the fairway.Always left deep divots even plugged a couple times,spongy when walking on them.....but green anyway.
looks like they are changing some tee boxes a bit(had a couple temp tee boxes..)
you just get a feeling they just don't care about the course or the patrons experiance anymore,in fact they had an auction goinh on in the bar(and lots of parking spaces were marked off so there was hardly any parking,I can only hope the auction was for money for new carts...hahaha
Thank you for your review! We are sorry to hear your cart trouble during your round. We do our best to ensure all patrons who wish to ride in a cart can do so. Cart availability does vary due to high usage, need for charging and required detailed cleaning of each cart. As you noted, we have recently renovated 3 tee boxes on the property with plans for more by the end of the year. New golf carts are, in fact, ordered and are in production. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, production and delivery of these carts had been delayed. We also have 10 minute tee time intervals to provide ample space on the golf course and timely return of carts throughout the day. We value our patrons' experience on and off the golf course. Good shape for dry time of year. Greens were great condition. 18th hole was ridiculous…not in a good way!!

challenging fun course
Lake Chabot is a fun course to play with many challenging holes. The greens are in very good condition but very difficult.
My favorite hole is number 18 which is a par 6 at 649 yards. It has tremendous ups and downs.

I have visited this course 5/6 times this year 2021 and enjoyed every moment being there.
It has a excellent mix of design, course and holes. And one of the best hole is 18.
