About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Great Course
Conditions were very good, pace of play was excellent, even on a Saturday morning, staff are very friendly, particularly the starter.

Lake chabot back 9 only
Could only play back 9 holes (twice). Tee time didn’t seem to account for that since 2nd time around took much longer.

Should have told us the front nine was closed
Would have played somewhere else if I knew Lake Chabot was gonna make us play the back 9 twice. Terrible
Thank you for your feedback on your experience at Lake Chabot GC! We apologize that golf course was not in its usual condition due to our annual Spring Aerification. This necessary process promotes the health and foundation of our greens for play throughout the year. We have posted notices detailing this adjustment to play via e-mail, through our other digital and physical advertisements, and during website/phone bookings. We also substantially discount the cost of a round with golf cart to compensate for the conditions of play during this process. Nonetheless, we understand it is an inconvenience. Our greens will be healed within 2 weeks and playing all 18 holes by Wednesday. If you would like to discuss further so we can gather information on where the gap in our notices could have arisen, that will help alert all who wish to play our course more comprehensively in the future.

Novelty Holes and Pasture
I played Lake Chabot for the first time today for an mid-week afternoon getaway from work and had a nice time out.
Here are some pros and cons for the course.
Pros:
1. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. My playing partner was late and the starter was able to push back our tee time a slot. The woman who was working the snack bar was also a sweetheart and made my buddy a great sandwich.
2. Pace of play. Since it was slow we got through a round in under 4 hours and never had to wait for another group until hole 16.
3. The Greens and fairways are in pretty decent shape. Not too dinged up, and the greens rolled as I read them.
4. Fun novelty holes. The wedge shot on 8 down a 60ft cliff was pretty fun, and so was the bizarre par 6 hole 18.
Cons:
1. Blind Tee Shots - Many of the holes play blind tee shots which are a pet peeve for me, especially without local knowledge.
2. The green complexes are almost all circles that are the same size and lack much undulations or character. Many shots are also blind onto the green.
3. Shooting over a street - Many holes play over the road to the clubhouse and it felt uncomfortable.
4. Little to no bunkering - or at least any bunkering that came into play.
All in all, I had a good time at Chabot. It’s a good community muni w/ nice people and some unique golf shots. However, it’s layout is a little bland for my tastes to play on the regular.

Conditions
I have seen Lake Chabot in much better shape in years past. Was it rain? Amount of play? Or neglect? Fairways not cut like they have been before, nor were the greens in their normal excellent shape. Pace was ok. Was used to better conditions in past.

If I lived closer, I’d play it again
Overall it was a good experience. They ran out of carts for my 10:34 tee time, but that’s the COVID era. Luckily it was a flat course and an easy walk. Staff was friendly enough and the conditions were good. Pace of play was also very good considering the amount of people. Only waited on the first few holes and at the 10th. It was an hour drive for me, I liked it but there are other courses that are closer and comparable. If I lived closer I would probably play it again.

Fair course, was in decent shape
My daughter and myself enjoyed the course, were really looking forward to the par 6 18th hole. Was nice weather but a boys tournament that went off before us made for a 5.75 hour round. The staff paired us with a couple of guys that were really fun to play with. My only complaint is that my daughter beat me by 2 strokes, a bit of a humble pie. Looking forward to playing Lake Chabot again.

Some patchy areas here and there which need maintenance but overall a great value and a a great time. Staff also very friendly and courteous.
