About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Can someone install a camera
I have seen sooo many vehicles get broken into here, I wont plat anymore until they figure it out. Crooks will drive in break into 8 cars and vansih. somehow nobody see this. Happens weekly.
Please take an uber here. or leave you car open with nothing in it.
1st time play
Played lake Chabot 1st time:
1) Course sits on a beautiful Oakland hill area, with magnificent view. However, the course condition is very bad, whether it's tee box, fairway, or the green. With serious management, it could be a prime golf course
2) Cart management is also an issue as we have to wait for our cart despite we did reserve the cart.
We were lucky to play on week day, I think the pace of play could be bad if weekend.

Chabot
Lines at pro shop were way too long. The course is not very well maintained, but you get what you pay for. It is more a "gimmicky" course than anything else. Fun for once to see the weird holes, but having every ball roll backwards like 100 yards on the fairway gets old fast.

Challenging Greens
This is a fun course for anyone with a medium to long ball. It's challenging but rewarding to get up the hills. The greens are very tough. No gifts! You have to earn every putt. The fairways ate very spotty, lots of dirt patches on the edges. Worth the round!

Mud & Dried Grass On The Same Course (Sometimes The Same Hole)
I applaud this course first of all for putting more gaps between tee times to help with spacing during the pandemic (12 minute tee time gaps). Sadly this preparation by the course quickly disappears with spacing and pace of play becoming just like any other muni course during busy times.
We tee'd off exactly at our 11:36am time with the group in front of us just reaching the green of the par 4. There was a slight wait on each tee box for the rest of the front 9. We finished those nine holes in two hours and eight minutes. The back 9 was a hole different story when it comes to pace of play. It started to lightly rain on the 10th tee and all gaps closed up in between groups. The entire back 9 had three groups on most tee boxes (my foursome along with the foursome in front and behind us). The back 9 took us two hours and twenty-six minutes to complete.
As for course conditions, they were quite hit and miss. Some fairways and tee boxes were in great shape with green grass. Some tee boxes were covered in sand with no green grass available to stand or hit from. Some fairways, rough and parts around the green had patches of mud while others are dried up grass. Keep in mind before today, the area hasn't had any rain for quite a while so patches of mud should not exist unless the course is watering too much. In that case, then why is there dried grass along with the mud?
Greens were brutal if you were above the hole on some pin placements. You couldn't stop the ball unless the hole got in the way. Front pin placements were difficult because the fringes were soft and you could not roll a ball up or get any kick forwards from an approach shot. Back pin locations were difficult because if you went over the green, your chip shot had a good chance of rolling off the front of the green.
I really like this course during the spring and summer months but it appears the cold weather and too much water from the course takes it toll around this time of year.

Still one of the best layouts, but needs some TLC
I love Chabot and always loved playing here. But this time the course just seemed neglected. A lot of the fairways were patchy and the greens were loaded up with divots and were really soggy.
I want to get out here again, but may avoid it if it is dry because any ball hit on an uphill would just roll back down.
Thank you for your feedback on your recent round at our course! We have been working tirelessly to provide safe and quality golf through these uncertain times, and are always looking to improve. Although golfers should fix their ball marks during play, we do have our marshals drive around the course fixing them throughout the day. We have also been irrigating the course efficiently to promote turf growth with a little help from Mother Nature. We expect that upon your next round with us that the conditions will be at yours and our expectation.
Interesting
It was a hard time to enjoy the course and playing Tuesday. We went through 3 golf carts cause they wouldn't start or wouldn't have enough power to go up and down the hills. That made for a longer day than it should be.
