Esplanade Was Esplendid
Championship first rate course. Bucket list course, play it while you can because it will be going private in a few years when construction is completed.
Play it ASAP!
Carts
Not sure what’s going on with their carts but the last two times I played they didn’t have GPS in their carts.
BVW
About 3 of the pin placements were impossible. More like goofy golf than real golf. I am not talking about hard pins but they were impossible. 4 and 5 putting a green because if you missed it going uphill it would roll back further than the previous putt. I am a 6 handicap too. Setting it up hard is ok. Setting it up where it is impossible degrades the fabulous golf course you have.
Crazy greens, wide, well kept
The staff, playing partners, and conditions were great.
Fairways are wide and bunkers have high lips.
I HATED the crazy greens. There is so much slope/contour on every green it approaches “miniature golf-like.” I shot 78 and never had flat putt beyond 3 feet.
Thankfully they are not super fast greens.
Power Carts
Course, practice facilities and staff were great but Power Carts were awful. GPS didn’t work and when we requested a new cart 3 times no one came out. On about 5 occasions we were in the middle of the fairway cart shutdown because apparently we were in a restricted zone. Disappointing
Best course in the area ! Private course gem for the public
Free range balls, great staff, best burger I’ve ever had at a half way house! Course was challenging and in immaculate condition, great were contoured,2nd cut was cut low but the water and the greens made up for that challenge, pace of play was great, 7:36 tee time and we finished in 3hrs 20 min ….best course I’ve played in the area …will be a private course when the development is done so play it while you can
Excellent Experience
Nothing negative with this course. It will eventually go Private like Lakewood National, once the residential development is completed.
Best Bang for your buck
Best bang for your buck course in the area I think. Well kept tee boxes, fairways and greens. Wide open fairways makes for easy tee shots but knowing where you want to be on the greens is incredibly important. in the wrong spot and no chance at scoring. Solid range and practice areas.
Carts have been down graded from when they first opened. They originally had GPS and were electric but now they use some pretty no frills gas powered ones. Not the end of the world as everyone has a range finder or GPS on their phone or watch but was interesting.
Seems with the amount of play here there is a chance for this course to go down hill a bit but hoping they keep up the quality of the course.
First timer
Almost missed my tee time as I first went to the other Esplanade course by mistake.
Once I sorted it out and made it with 7 minutes to spare, I played a very enjoyable round.
Could of been a nice experience, IF ONLY!
On a positive note, course layout and conditions were great, especially the greens. We arrived 40 minutes prior to our tee time, eager to hit balls, only to find the range was closed for maintenance 12-2 on Mondays (in my experience, most nice courses do range maintenance later in the day). Tater than waiting around the pro shop said we could get out a bit earlier, but instead we ended up teeing off 12 minutes after our original tee time. It felt to us the staff had a few friends they plugged in and disregarded our scheduled time. Starter was a nice guy, but pretty clueless on how to manage the 1st tee. Then, not know the course, we were glad to see the GPS screen… but sadly enough both carts GPS never worked. To top it all off, both of the carts in our group slowed down significantly on the back nine and sure enough, our cart died half way up 18. After grabbing our bag and the rest of the way in, we didn’t even get an acknowledgment or apology from the bag guys. I guess they were annoyed that they needed to get the disabled cart. What a mess…although it was a very nice course.
