Golf Advisor: Top 25 Friendliest Courses in the U.S. (2015 #24)
Reviews
Very nice muni-type course
I found the course to be in surprisingly good shape for a municipal type course, the fairways were green and the greens rolled true, not to fast, but certainly not to slow. We had a very enjoyable day.
great value, average course
The course is fun and a great value. There was a tournament in the AM and the air show going on in the afternoon, so pace of play was slower than I would have liked. Will play course again as it's a great price and fun.
A real course for real people
Friendly people, easy tee times and transparent pricing on GolfNow.com, and a purely fun course.
I really had a great time playing, and my daughter who almost never golfs, really enjoyed it too.
Other players were friendly, not the least bit snooty, and a pleasure to share the course with.
A Fair Course For A Few Bucks
Have played this course many times. Greens have greatly improved and roll fast and true for the most part. Tee boxes are horrible - all except 2 par 3s are crowned and undulate so you really have to find a level spot to tee from. Plus tee blocks are set way off to one side or the other and very close together so by afternoon, they are quite trampled. Pace of play is generally 3:45 on weekdays. The course was entirely redone in the 90s with grass but now, kikuyu weed is all that is left of the fairways and rough. Afternoon winds on the back nine frequently are 2-club adjustments but not unmanageable. Watch out for an army of ground squirrels taking over.
Good value
Nice rate and nice course. Good value. Decent pace and suprised how good of shape the course was for the price.
Fun Day
Good City course. Back nine challenging as it is more open and the afternoon wind makes it play a lot longer. Fun for average player. Will play again but will try to play in the morning to beat the wind..
Nice track
Nice course usually good weather for golf. The course is straight long and mixes in some challenges like a pin location behind a giant tree or traps in front and green slopes backward. Easy on a good day. Hard on and average day.
Fun round
Maybe because I played well this day, but the course seemed to be in all around excellent shape. Even the rough and traps were in fine shape. The greens looked great, but were a lot slower than I remember them. Still put just fine. Go Play.
The Ace in the hole
I was paired up with two of the nicest people who gave me insight on the course which really made it so much more enjoyable. The course was in very good shape and the greens are the best I've played on sense Stone Brae in Hayward Ca. I shot a 1 under par round and had an ace on the tough par 3 13th. I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to play and have an enjoyable time.
GOOD TIME
Course was in excellent shape, greens where awesome, would play course again.
Great overall condition
For a public course it was in amazing condition. We did not have anyone behind or in front so pace of play was excellent!
Above and beyond!
I could talk about the condition of the course, fabulous, but the staff there is incredible! Due to a severe medical condition, I was not able to arrive in a timely fashion. After calling to inform the staff, I was assured there would be no problem getting me on. In fact, they sent me two emails with my readjusted tee times. Outstanding! Then when I made mention that a recently purchased golf glove had worn a hole at the fingertip, staff said that sometimes there are variations in size and replaced the glove. Great place to golf as conditions are excellent and the course challenging, but the staff make it a totally excellent experience. First class!
The course was in great condition
The course is in excellent condition and the greens are especially good (fast and roll true). The wind was challenging at times but overall a great experience.
Good staff
Nice layout flat course not many out of bounds. Wind does come up in the afternoon,Great value in an area with many high end courses..
Conditions
Golf course in great shape even with amount of play it receives. Greens, tees, traps very well tended.
Nice course but a tad pricey for what you get
This was my first time and i definitely enjoyed myself. The facilities are classic 50's style and the course is well maintained. I went on a Sunday morning and it was very busy so the course played extremely slow. The front nine were a blast but the back nine run along the Salinas airport and there's a lot of wind so dress in layers. Overall I had a great time but thought it was a bit overpriced.
nice, simple course
Straight forward course. Some holes have tree lined fairways. Some fairways are wide open links style. Is always more challenging when the wind blows. Greens rolled true while not extremely fast.
Fun to play
The course can be a little windy. It is fairly flat but still has its challenges. Fun to play and a good value.
First time
Pro - wide fairways, great greens, fast play,
Cons - sand traps didn't have sand but dirt, golf cart was old and wobbled, pro shop was overly crowded with too much equipment and othe golf gear
The pro remembered me from Fresno and that was refreshing.
