River View Golf Course
About
Situated within the Santa Ana Riverbed, River View Golf Course is conveniently located just minutes from Disneyland, Anaheim, and Long Beach. The course's design intertwines with the river, providing challenging hazards on several holes. The narrow layout also features elevated greens that rarely offer a flat lie and are fiercely guarded by sand. Accuracy is a necessity throughout this golf course. Although it offers a fair amount of challenges, there is also ample room off the tees that makes the course more accessible for beginners. River View G.C. is also popular for its practice facilities, which include a driving range with targets and the county's largest putting course. While the other facilities may be modest, River View offers an affordable game that is one of Orange County's best values.

never going back to this place
there must be bots writing some of these reviews or payola has reached the golf industry because there is absolutely no way you could be even an average enthusiest of the game and walk away from river view enjoying your experience.
the course layout/design makes absolutely no sense. i understand architechts can only work within the property they are given but beyond the perplexing hole locations and multiple ravine interruptions, every fairway runs left to right. it gets to be insanely boring to be hitting the same shots on every hole. DO NOT USE THESE PHOTOS FOR REFERENCE. the last time a photographer shot this course must have been during the reagan administration.
hole 9 is a 110 yd par 3 that goes back towards the clubhouse with an un-protected parking lot about 10 yards left of the green. can you say "dude, where's my car?"
the staff and folks hanging around the course were friendly. i feel bad writing a one-star review like this but i can't in good conscious let other LA city golfers view this as a viable option when rustic canyon, debell, or even alhambra all all way better values for your money and closer to the city.
Good ol River View
Pace of play was average for today. But not bad for a Saturday. The Marshall did come explain why there was a back up but not till hole 16. With the recent rains there was actually some water in the river bed on some of the holes which added a extra level of difficulty. Greens were perfect. Don't sleep on Riverview. Elevated greens. Small greens at that. Not as easy as some may think. Give it a try.
A waste dump called a golf course
The greens were nice. Everything else about the course looked and felt like we were in an area used to dump hazardous waste.
They should not be allowed to charge the public money to play here.
Dissappointing
Did not like the layout at all.!
Lots of blind spots.
Fairways were in poor condition.
In all fairness, the greens were in nice condition.
I love this course
This course is not that long but really challenging. I am a beginner and it is the most difficult course I have ever played. recommended!
gem of Santa Ana
Riverview is a good value and a great practice. elevation changes, greens are in good shape, layout requires accuracy on some holes, distance on others. Got teed up with a nice golfer, had a good round on a nice day.
Golf in a big ditch . . . without the charm . . .
River View sits mostly in the Santa Ana "river" ditch. The holes go across, up and down the very tall levees, and greens are often perched at the top of the levees, so lots of awkward uphill approach shots into some blind green locations. Course condition was poor to average. I give it a bit of a break for the price, but the tee boxes and fairways were in really bad shape. The greens were surprisingly good, given the overall poor condition of the course. It is a very interesting course in that the designers had to deal with winding a golf course in and out of a huge ditch. It's reminiscent of some of the "wash" courses in the Palm Springs area, without the charm. Pace of play was excruciatingly slow, but I give it a little deference in that it was a Saturday. There is a dearth of golf courses in the L.A. area, particularly affordable public courses, so this one gets a ton of play, and it shows. Give it a try if you're looking for an interesting course, but go with low expectations on course conditions and don't expect to do well on your first try, as the extremely elevated and sometime blind green locationsm along with tee shots at strange angles to the "ditch", require a good knowledge of the course. Without it, expect to be frustrated. The poor course conditions and slow pace of play only make it more frustrating. I'll be back in the spring or summer and see if they have improved the conditions. Always willing to give a course a 2nd try.
Meh
Playing an underpass with a 15 minute wait on each hole which was in a gulley and up a mountain was not fun. Either was 7 par 3s. Nothing about this course makes sense. Would not play again.
Don’t waste your time here
First off the starter was completely rude. He was getting mad at us because we couldn’t understand him because of his mumbling
This course is basically in a wash with zero grass so even if you do hit a good shot your second shot most likely is in a dirt patch. Second they spread sand throughout the whole course and even in the fairways. The layout of the course is a joke. The driving range is in terrible condition and the range balls seemed like they were 10 years old. The balls were all scuffed up and you could just tell they were super old. I’m not one to review courses but I wanted to make sure people read this. I will say the greens were in good condition but very slow and the practice greens were actually very nice. Other than that I will never golf at this place again and I will make sure my friends know not to go here. This place is like someone set up a golf course in their back yard. I guess this is what I get for getting a last minute round in the night before.
Best Course
Fairways are beautiful, rain did make some of the fairways a little narrow but other than that the course is beautiful!!
Playable and Challenging
We had a good day, course conditions and greens were great considering it’s winter time and most courses are trying to survive.
River view impresses me every time I visit.
Not disappointed expect the extra charge for riding in separate carts when it was not busy at all and there were several available.
Price seemed a little excessive when golf now prices are supposed to “include cart”
interesting course
I was pleasantly surprised after playing this course. Interesting layout along the Santa Ana riverbed. Necessary to avoid shots into the riverbed, although much of it lists as free drop zone due to the constantly changing riverbed conditions after heavy rains. I definitely would play this course again because it had challenges, conditions of fairways were not too bad, greens were good, and for the money value was great. Biggest negative was the large number of leaves on tree lined parts of the fairway, likely due to seasonal drop.
