Cantigny Golf - Lakeside/Hillside

We were a little bit late and were screamed at by an employee who was trying to get us to hurry due to an outing that was going off behind us. We were told to catch the group in front of us which we did, but to find out they were employees playing on the course and had zero etiquette on the course. We ended up playing by ourselves but were screamed at by the ranger to hurry up when there was no one behind us for atleast 3 holes. I have been golfing here for 30+ years and I had a client with me who had never been there before and it was extremely disheartening that we were treated like 12 year olds on the course after spending $400 plus dollars between the round, beverages from the cart girl, and post round food. Im hoping that this next adventure out isn’t as rough.

Love the course layout here at cantigny. Every hole is beautiful and requires a challenge. If you are a true golfer, this is your spot!

Cantigny is always a treat. The grounds are so special. There is a great atmosphere there with the beautiful golf holes combined with the class-act staff. The course was in phenomenal shape as usual!

Pace of play was awful - played a 5.5 hour round on a Friday. Mentioned numerous times to ranger about slow play in front of us and he just drove off. Course was in great shape minus the greens. Not worth the money imo. Way better courses out there for way better price points.

This course has gone so downhill. I grew up playing the youth links then the real course. It used to be a great course. Now the greens are awful. 5 hour pace. I won’t be back for a long time. Arrowhead is the best course for the money. Klein creek is a fun course but tight. Village links is great. Cantigny is the most expensive and in worse condition than all of the others I mentioned.

After three groups were on the 8th tee, I asked a ranger if there was a group slowing everyone down. He shrugged and said it’s always slow in the afternoon. I said we were pacing over 5 hours and he did not respond.

It’s a shame because the layout is great. That’s where the positives start and end.

Do not waste your money.

I normally don't play higher end courses but found a Hot Deal on Golf Now and took a chance. I'm so glad I did. Cantigny was absolutely gorgeous. It is a beautiful course to the eye with lots of trees and a good amount of water, bunker conditions were excellent. Greens are subtle rather than highly contoured. All staff encountered were friendly and helpful, course conditions were excellent. Though I can't afford to play here often, I will definitely be back at least on a special occasion basis. Probably the most overall enjoyable round I've played in the Chicagoland area.

My local course but I don't have the money to play it as regularly as I'd like. Still, their twilight rates for walking is doable.

The course looks SO beautiful this time of year - late summer to early fall is definitely the best for the woodside/lakeside courses.

Even during an overhaul of one of three nine hole courses it was absolutely beautiful. During our 9 hole round we stopped a few times and just couldn’t believe how quiet it was on the course. No construction noise, no road noise, nothing of the sort. Well maintained with large pristine tee boxes. Somewhat challenging, but fun to play. The word “majestic” was thrown around a couple of times. Going to make sure we visit and play at least a few times throughout the seasons going forward.

The staff, the management, the experience are all top notch for a daily fee course. Better layout and conditions than many private clubs I have played.

I absolutely love Cantigny Golf Club in Wheaton, Illinois. It's one of the most beautiful in Chicagoland. However, yesterday there were annoying bugs or gnats on most of the holes. One nine is undergoing extensive renovation. I don't know if that was the cause but there were these annoying bugs on most holes.
