UNC Finley Golf Course
About
UNC Finley Golf Course is one of the top 20 collegiate courses in the country. The club offers a well conditioned comprehensive facility with a driving range, putting green, and chipping. Tom Fazio designed this challenging layout that is diverse enough to appeal to players of all skill levels. He included his trademark false fronts and greenside bunkers. To keep the golf course approachable, there are several different ways to play the bunkers and there are numerous risk-reward opportunities. Seven sets of tees ranging from about 5,000 to 7,300 yards make the course even more versatile. The 15th through the 17th are a beautiful stretch of holes that provide a formidable test as well. The excellent conditions are another feature of the UNC Finley golf course that has made it popular.

Golfer Reviews
Challenging course, fun for all golfers
UNC Finley was one of the better courses I've played in the Triangle. The course was in great shape from tee boxes to greens. The greens lacked consistency, probably based on recent rainfall, but coupled with elevation and drainage, it was difficult to adjust to different green speeds.
Generally, the course was free of major water hazards though a few holes played along and over water or shrubbery. If you cleared the hazards, you have very large and well-maintained fairways to play from Be careful of the fairway bunkers, they're placed in the perfect spots to screw up a long drive.
Enjoyable all-around experience
Course in great shape and all staff encountered were extremely friendly from the pro shop to grill. Booked as single but matched up with 3 other golfers - 2 locals and another visitor who also contributed to the overall positive experience. This is a first class facility and one of the best university courses I have been fortunate to play among many. I plan on playing again when in the area. Thanks Finley for a great time and experience.
Great Layout and Condition
My first time playing UNC Finley. We enjoyed the day completely. Pace of play was perfect, no rushing or waiting. The course condition was perfect. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to play a high end course for a moderate fee.
Nice Course. Bad Staff
We played last Thursday night. There were storms in the area, but not close. The ranger came out after three holes and said we could get a rain check for the round if we wanted to come in now. The weather wasn't bad at that moment so we finished the nine. At the turn the weather started going downhill and we decided to call it quits, we went in to talk to the attendant and asked about the possibility of a nine hole rain check.
His response was that we were already warned and if we wanted a rain check we should have come in. We told him we understood but the weather wasn't bad and we wanted to finish the nine. We weren't asking for a full 18 check just for the nine we didn't get to finish. He said we didn't even pay the full rate and that they "don't give warnings so we could keep playing as many as we felt like" I asked him what he meant by "paying the full rate" and he said we booked through Golf Now. I told him that's where their website took me to book it.
If that was truly their policy and the guy explained it in a non elitist, condescending manner I would have been OK with it. He talked to us like we were children, and then implied we were not as important since we booked through Golf Now.
Great course, but will not be back.
Great Course
This course is a pleasure to play. Great conditions and 14 unique holes that are fair and the right amount of challenging.
Always a great round.
One of my favorite courses in the area. No tricks. Just good clean golf and great conditions.
Among the best in the Trianlge
If Finley was a couple of dollars cheaper, I would play it every time I go out ... despite the fact there are many courses closer to me. BUT it's worth the money and then some. Every hole is beautiful, well maintained and just a complete joy to play. The tees present good options to challenge yourself. This is a GREAT course!!
This course is one of the best college courses in the U.S.
UNC Finley is a fantastic, fair, and well maintained golf course. The staff is friendly, the practice facility is top notch, and the clubhouse is exceptional. You can't go wrong in choosing to play a round at UNC Finley.
Great Layout and challenging
The only 2 problems I personally didn't care for was the range. We had to hit off the mats and as I look out 40 yards I see a perfectly manicured grass driving range with no divots or anything and it looked like no one's ever hit any balls from the grass area of the driving range. I don't understand why they are not using the grass area. There's no excuse at all to be honest and I guess they are trying to save maintenance money. I can see hitting off the mats ounce in awhile but not on June 17th in the middle of the summer. Then there's a sign on the putting green saying to please limit your time on the putting green to 30 minutes! Never saw that ever on a golf course! Then I arrived an hour and a half to hit balls and the starter is pressing me to go out earlier which is cool but I'm 55 yrs old and I would like to hit a small bucket to warm up now. I had a great time though and I would highly recommend this course to anyone. Can we hit some range balls on the grassy area of the driving range instead of mats all the time? Totally unsat. You can tell they never use the grassed area and it's mats evrytime I play there! Don't know what the problem is when greens fees average 69.00 a round. A maintenance guy making 10 bucks an hour can move the ropes and fix a few divot holes I'm sure. Awesome course to play! I will come back to hit off the mats I'm sure to warm up.
Always enjoyable
Played 9 holes with my son on Father's Day. As usual, we had a great time and the course was in great condition. We always enjoy playing Finley.
This Pace Will Not Stand
I've played Finley about 15 times I will play it many more. It remains my favorite course in the Triangle. However, this round was unacceptably slow at 5hr 10min. The problem seemed to be two groups ahead and the rangers didn't do anything about it. Very disappointing.
Great time
Brought my 2 grandsons, 16 and 19, one on a golf scholarship at college and we enjoyed the course very much!
