About
Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.
Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,222 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.
Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

Whirlwind never disappoints
I love playing this course, always in great shape, staff is very friendly.
Greens are in great shape, sand in traps.
Outstanding course
The over all condition of this course is outstanding , especially considering it is summertime . The maintenance of the course , fairways bunkers, cart paths , even the roughs was excellent . The greens are firm and tight and the ball rolls true . The pace of play was excellent ,and the staff was friendly . I highly recommend this course
Always a great time
Course was in good shape! Greens on cattail were way better than expected based on recent reviews. Firm, fast, but receptive. Couple bald spots here and there in fairways but no biggy. 4 holes into the round I was already looking forward to coming back.

Great Resort Course
We always wanted to pay Whilrwind Cattail course, they they play the LPGA. Golf Now had a really great Hot Flash price, so we got to play the course. This is a really nice resort course. Fairways were generous and very playable. The greens were well protected and in great shape. It was not an easy course, but from the white tees, it was fair and playable. Highly recommend either course.
Great Tracks
Cattail and Devil's Claw each have their pros and cons. The biggest pro for Devil's claw is that the holes tend to be more diverse and more strategy is required with your tee shot selection. Cattail is gettable if you can keep a long drive in the fairway, but miss a green and you're faced with some challenging slopes around the greens.
as of 516 course was punched in many areas and conditions were dry and firm, not good at all even not on greens. Not worth 110+ $
Great course. A bit dry.
Aerating around perimeter of the greens has dried out this area. Greens are fast and firm. Course is great to play.
Whirlwind
The greens seemed dry. Many of the old cups were dry and not healed. 10 to 15 of them on some holes. Fairways were pretty good, tees were adequate. A fun course. Makes watching the LPGA play more interesting.

Greens were top dressed but did not seriously effect putting that much.
Fanstastic course
Loved the layout, conditions, and views. Slow pace of play, had to wait in every hole, but it was a Saturday afternoon. Better value and course than Southern Dunes.
