Great - Hot Deal
Course is designed by Davis Love III -- Very good layout and probably excellent in its day. Grass was a bit long -- difficult rough -- but mowing was a bit uneven. Greens very undulating -- but also slow
Improving
For anyone reading the recent poor reviews, the course conditions have significantly improved. The previous were accurate but clearly have improved. Greens will soon be aerated according to the pro shop staff and will hopefully be very good into the fall. Greens were struggling a bit probably due to heat when I played on labor day but the rest of the course was in good condition and the issues of lack of mowing, grass removal, etc. were much improved. Keep it up FO, too good of a course to become a goat track!!
Course in poor condition and did not prorate
I've played at this course about 10 times. This is the worst it's been. The bunkers were not in good condition, and the grass in the fairways were longer than the rough. Let me also add that this was on a Saturday. I looked at reviews before going, hoping that things would be different; they weren't. I asked a gentleman why the conditions were so terrible. He said that their mower had broken two times and a the guy that maintains quit. Understandable, things do happen, but don't make your customers suffer. It barely looked like they were even making an effort Prorate your prices for a round. Make your customers happy. It's that simple. There are so many better places to play that are in tip-top condition for $50. Now this course is no longer on my top courses to choose from in my area because of their greediness. If you do decide to play there, I'd be sure to call ahead to check if they mowed their grass. With that being said, their greens have always been in good condition; they were cut and rolling nicely. If you know your course is in bad condition, accommodate for your customers. They're the people that really make the business what it is.
Bad Shape
Course was in the worst shape I've ever seen it. It looked like a teenager mowed the grass and was underpaid. Paid 30 for it and that was way too much for the condition it was in. Very disappointed.
Grass clippings
The fairways was great until you got to an area where the grass was cut with lumps of clippings just left out someone needs a rake
Guest, I apologize for you less than satisfactory experience. We experienced some equipment issues that caused us to get behind but we are much improved now. If there is anything we can do to encourage you to return please let us know.
Terrible, just TERRIBLE
The Forest Oaks staff should be ashamed to charge regular rates with the condition that the course was in. The fairways clearly hadn't been mowed in several days. Every hole was like playing out of the first cut. The second cut had clumps of grass EVERYWHERE. The greens were the only thing that were mowed, but crab grass growing in random spots on just about every one. The types of conditions would be expected at your local $25 municipal course, but not $50+ on a Sunday.

It'll be a long time...
...before I pay the fees they're asking for to play this "rag-a-muffin" course again. Once a great value and former PGA Tour stop, Forrest Hills has gone downhill fast! Large clumps of 2 day old mowed grass - where there was grass in the fairways, pitted greens from lack of player repair or insect infestation and bird feasting and mowed crabgrass...ON THE GREENS, made this round on a nice, hot day almost too disgusting to finish. I took a new friend, who had never played there and I was embarrassed at this choice and price! They'll have to make some BIG changes for me to go back!
Dear guest,
Thank you for visiting Forest Oaks Country Club. We are sorry that you had a poor experience during your last visit. We are working to improve and hope to be able to have you back to visit soon.
Very similar experience yesterday - I was LIVID afterwards. I can't believe they would happily accept the regular rate with the course in such terrible condition.
Very Disappointed
I was a little disappointed in this course. Because it was once on the PGA Tour I really wanted to play this course and was finally able to book a tee time at a reasonable price through GolfNow.com but was very surprised at how the course conditions were. I have never played this course and did not know the layout of the holes and unlike most courses I have been to there was no map of the hole layout on the score card or the signs at each hole, just the yardage. If it weren't for being able to watch the slow group in front of us we would have been playing blind all day. The tee boxes were not mowed so it made teeing off a little difficult because you were hitting through grass. This course is Bermuda and it has gotten too high on the fairways to the point your ball disappears into the grass. Again, grass was mowed way too high for the fairway, more like playing in the rough all day. I can't imagine the mess they will have when they finally mow it. Their greens are rough and patchy. We caught the group of older gentlemen at number 10 and they said they would not be back mainly because of the greens. I average shooting in the mid 80's to low 90's on any course I go too but was able to Par the first 4 holes in a row and even got a birdie on #16 so it wasn't that difficult of a course, shot an 85 for the day. I played at Country Hills Golf Course last week and it was in much better condition than Forest Oaks CC. Very disappointed in Forest Oaks CC as I had high expectations for this course. I see they typically charge $40 on the weekends; DON'T PAY THIS. I got my tee time for $25 and that is about what it's worth right now!!
Fairway issues
A jem that is going downhill. I was excited to play here because I played about 4 months ago and the course was worth the trip. If it wasn't for the hot deal I would of given a worse review. Many fairways have some type of fungus which makes it look very spotty. Tee boxes were not mowed and the greens are starting to get crab grass in spots. The layout is awesome they just need to get on repairing the trouble areas.
Course needs attention
Good course layout and pace of play for a Friday was quick. Tee boxes had not been mowed in several days, never have played on a course with that high of grass on the tee boxes. In the the fairways there were clumps of grass from mowing that if your ball went into one it could be lost. Maybe couldn't mow because of the recent rains, don't know.
Good course
If you get a chance to slip out of Greensboro and have not played this course yet, do it. Greens were in great shape and the course was set up to challenge you, but not over power you.
Great course!
Moved to the Forest Oaks area late 2015 and although I have not joined the club yet, I consider it my home course. The course is in great shape with lush fairways and moderately fast greens that will challenge golfers of all levels. As one might imagine on a track which formerly hosted a PGA tour event, it demands all types of shaped shots and good course management. I gave course conditions a four star only because this area has had a lot of rain so maintenance is having a difficult time keeping up with the mowing (grass clippings all over the rough) and the greens are suffering a bit from soft conditions which aren't allowing the ball marks to repair as quickly.
A good layout and player friendly
Great layout, good condition, players just need to fix divot on greens. Long and challenging with risk and rewards. Looking forward to playing it again.
Thank you for this review!
Very Nice Course
Excellent design and condition. A little wet from heavy overnight rain.
Challenging undulating greens.
Thank you for your positive review!
Great conditions and great staff!!!
Love everything about Forest Oaks!!! Favorite course in the area!!! Perfect greens!!!
Thank you for this glowing review!
Great layout
Good mix of holes. Large greens in good shape, run at a decent speed but not fast. Fairways a little thin but overall course was in good shape. Saturday afternoon in less than the 3 hours.
Forest Oaks CC
Great course for the value ($21 GolfNow special). Big greens, but slow. The course could use trimming of tall ruff.
My wife truly enjoyed the course
My son and I had told my wife and his mother, who has never broken 100 to be prepared. She played the best she had ever played and that was due to the course being in great shape and fair. In fact we all played well and it was a wonderful Sunday afternoon.
Challenging Greens
The last time I played this course was in a PGA Pro-Am in 1998. I didn't recall a lot of the holes but I heard it was redesigned by Davis Love 111in the early 2000's and they also switched the front and back nines. The greens were fantastic and very undulated. Fairways were good and bunkers could have used a little raking, but it was a fun experience. I would certainly play again when in the Greensboro vicinity.
New Motto
Integrity Golf and Forest Oaks where the play is slow cause we don't mow! Great greens and nice course conditions if your hitting it straight or are really good. If not, bring plenty of balls and be prepared for slow play as the grounds crew has not mowed many areas where wayward shots end up. Yes my shots!!
