great value
Best course in town for the money. Expect slw play.
Very poor food service
Came out with group of 12 and paid full weekend morning price. Our last two groups stopped at the turn for hot dogs and it took 25 minutes. It took so long the group behind our final group went through us and by the time we got back to the tee the were 4 groups (including our last two) stacked up on the 10th tee. AGAIN, we all just got hot dogs and drinks. Very frustrating and put us in a bad spot of feeling like we held up play this badly. I would strongly suggest that Forest Oaks have a system of handling food at the turn in a much more efficient manner. We have experienced this before when coming here but not this bad.
Good layout. Wide fairways
Greens and fairways in good shape. Tee boxes need water as do parts of fairways. Traps were ok and not as bad as previous reviews Only played back nine twice as front greens were being treated.
Classic layout...No tricked up holes
Greens putted very true. Firm, sloping greens were challenging to hold and to save par on missed shots. The layout was very challenging and very fair. Generous wide fairways and playable lies off the fairways. The holes were difficult but recovery from a bad shot was generally possible.
Fun course
Played end of march course in great shape. Nice green fairways and smooth greens . Just a fun course that has you hitting lots diffrent shots and has a great layout. The have not plugged the greens yet so great greens for this time of year
Forest Oaks
Was excited about playing Forest Oaks for the first time with my son. Given the history of hosting a PGA event for so many years. We teed off as scheduled {no ranger or starter} and being a twosome we found out much to our dismay that the pro shop had allowed a fivesome ahead of us. You would think that they would have allowed to play through but that did not happen. I did not want to cause a scene in front of my son because he is new to the game and I did not want to seem too negative. I made up my mind to play on through the front and make a effort to play past on the back after the group stopped at the clubhouse for a break. Well that did not happen they did not stop so my son and I decided to stop for a snack so they could get ahead a couple of holes. Stopped at the restaurant and after 5 minutes and no one even looked our way so we left and started on number 10 and lo and behold the fivesome must have all taken mulligans because we caught up with them on the same hole. Very frustrating indeed. The course overall was in good shape except for very high rough and traps had very heavy sand and weeds in most. Greens were in good shape and layout was good. Will give it a try again based on that but overall not too impressed.
Bunkers still need a lot of work
FOCC posted on Facebook several weeks back that the bunkers were being worked on. Still several that are weed infested and have not been touched in months. Some now have sand but have had little to no maintenance. Would be a shame if this course continues a reputation of poor condition only due to bunkers. Greens were very nice and rolled great! Bunker conditions are a real head scratcher!!!!
dsappointing
First time playing Forest Oaks and for a former tournament course, I was extremely disappointed. Layout OK, traps were abysmal. Looks like no money has been put into the course to keep it in shape. Won't be returning.
Too nice of a course to allow 5-somes. Course was nice but very slow play.
Had a 1:30 tee time. 1st tee backed up with 4 groups waiting. Had to sit and watch as a 5-some goes out 2 groups in front of us. No ranger on the course but when it was brought to the attention of staff at the turn they apparently sent them out that way with the course already backed up. Needless to say, we weren't able to finish the round before dark. Course was in good shape with over seeded fairways. Great layout and challenging greens. Only disappointment was following a group of 5 on a busy Sunday.
Love the greens
Course looks good over all. 90% of the bunkers could use work. And they've been that way for some time. Everything else is great. Love the smoothness of the greens.
No Water!! Bathrooms???
Like this course. Will not be back if there continues to be no water put out on the course. Two weeks in row now I have played and none of the several places there is normally water had the coolers out. Rediculous and unacceptable!! Also, how long does it take to repair restrooms??? Been out of order for a long time now.
Good course at a great price
Great layout through the Carolina forest. Greens were in good condition and the staff very friendly. For the price, $32 on golfnow, you'd be hard pressed to fine a better value for such a quality course. My only problem with the course was some of the bunkers could use some work. I would definitely play again when I'm in the area.
Forest Oaks is back
Back in the shape you would expect. Great greens, great fairways, typical forest oaks rough, just down a little with the weather changing which is a good thing even though we still had a little trouble finding some balls in the rough but might have been the leaves that have started to fall. People probably over reacted to the Spring/summer conditions. All courses were struggling with the weather so you either had to suck it up and deal with it or travel to Pinehurst or the Beach. Everything is what you would expect for forest oaks now and it's usually the best area course in the winter because they overseed the fairways.
If you like 5:30-6 hr round this is the place for you!
To bad, its a really nice track, and pretty good conditions. Green a tad slow but rolled well and true. But staff, while pleasant during check in, were clueless about managing the course. On a packed beautiful weekend day, there were twosomes, even singles, mixed in with foursomes. And getting your "spot" to start the round basically came down to who could make the other groups "back down". Get the wrong crowd waiting to tee off (4 groups deep while we waited to tee off), and you're gonna get a fistfight, since everyone said "guy in proshop said 'we're next'". The it's wait 5 minutes for every shoot. Had 1:40 tee time and had to quit after 16 due to DARKNESS. To bad, i liked the course and was in good condition but hard to enjoy when you stand around so much.
great course
course was in great shape as were the greens. can't beat the price either for this quality of a course, love it
First Timer
Outstanding value, great layout and course was in very good condition. Looking to play again next week!
excellent for the money
Course is in very good condition. Still wet in places. But overall very good.
Great layout
The course has a fantastic layout. There are homes around some of the fairways but shouldn't come into play. Due to all of the rain the past week the fairways had just been mowed but there were grass clippings all over the place. I would love to go back in a week and see how much better it is. Would definitely play again.
Better Than Expected
Played a round two days after the October deluge. While Cart Path Only was expected, the course had drained amazingly well. The only issue was the fairways had not been mowed in a week due to all the rain, so there was wispy rough from recent overseeding in the middle of nearly all fairways. Expect that issue has been resolved. The greens were in great condition and rolled true. Don't hesitate to book a round here in October. The course will be prime.
Carolina golf
I love Carolina Golf, the course was outstanding, the lay out was nice and well maintained. Greens were a little slow but over all nice. I would love to play it again. The only kick back was finding the yard markers. I will have my gps devise next time I play.
