Sandpiper
Staff was fantastic, especially the Pro Shop. The starter and bag personnel were very efficient. Pace of play was exceptional and the course for February was very good!
Good Fun
Couldn't ask for better day. Course in good cond. considering all the rain. Always a good time.
Great shape for winter.
Sandpiper over seeded this year and it was fun to play. The greens were in great shape. Great value.
Excellent condition for winter golf.
The staff was awesome. Charlie the starter funny fantastic guy. Pro shop super friendly and well stocked even this time of year. The course was in excellent condition. They cover the greens at night to prevent frost. One of the only public courses in the area I have seen do this. Greens were fast and rolling beautifully, tough subtle breaks to read. Fairways excellent condition as well. Considering that the area more than doubled yearly rainfall totals since Sept this was one of the best courses I have played within an hour of Wilmington for drainage, 90 deg rule for the day. Fun layout, sand traps well maintained for this time of year, rough was dormant grass so it made it nice and easy to get out of lol. Free balls at the range to warm up before the round. They even called me up after the round to let me know I left my jacket in the cart. Fantastic round will certainly be coming back.
One of the best in North MB
We normally stay in the south so don't want to drive an hour plus. To access some new courses we stayed in North MB for a change for 10 days. I have been less than impressed by some of the courses we accessed. But we LOVED Sandpiper Bay and would go back there anytime, even if it means driving from Murrells Inlet. Staff were fantastic. Course is wonderful even though it was very wet in spots due to the excessive rain they've been getting. Cart paths could use some work..
Getting better all the time
The course was in good shape, pace was slow. Three some followed by a twosome made up of the husbands of the threesome. Greens were in good shape compared to a year ago. They protect them at night when it's below 32deg.
Good Value
The greens rolled well. The fairway grass was thin. All the staff members were friendly.
Cool but still enjoyable
Temperature did not reach 50* F. today, making for less than ideal conditions. However, course was in very good condition considering recent excessive rainfall. The greens were fast and true, making for an enjoyable round. We will certainly return to Sandpiper soon!
Very good round
We had a super day and found all staff members to be friendly and helpful. Pace of play was ideal at 4hrs15 min. Like everywhere else in Myrtle Beach right now, the course is still quite wet after an exceptionally rainy fall season, so fairways and approach areas are soggy. Drives and second shots that fall short of the green get very little (if any roll) after first impact. Greens are firm and dry and run true. Club selection becomes critical in these conditions. Highly recommended course overall.
Good conditions considering current rainfall
Course was wet but this was to be expected , greens were very good and ran true
Pace of play was poor due to there were 2 groups of 5 ( yes 5 ) players ahead of us. They would not signal us to play through and with no Marshall on the course we waited on almost every shot. Until frustrated we quit on the 15 hole
All in all we like this course and will return, but will carry my cell phone to contract pro shop if play is an issue
Nice track but rude staff
Let me preface my comments by saying that I am a general manager of a large corporation. I know Customer service very well and this place needs CS training. It’s a very nice course with good greens, fairways, and practice facilities. For the price, it’s a good deal. Just don’t expect much with service. I can tell that they just hire the typical grumpy old men here and they obviously take their jobs too serious and over manage everything. When I come out to play golf, I have enough things on my mind than following all of their silly little rules such as checking in before you touch the practice grounds. The staff feels the need to ride down and tell us to check in before using the facility. That’s fine if that’s the rules but I don’t have to like it or come back. I play at much fancier courses and don’t have all of these annoyances. But no worries, we will continue to go to Thistle and will definitely tell everyone else to avoid this place if they don’t want to be bothered. Focus on giving the customers the best experience possible. Overall good course but unfortunately we will not be returning. We drove an hour for this place. There is a common theme of grumpy old men at these Myrtle area courses. Getting sick of it. Don’t work if you can’t be nice to the paying patrons. Good luck.
From the Head Golf Professional. Since Sandpiper Bay is not a fancier golf course we require all golfers to check in because the range balls are included with your paid round. There is a small fee to practice on the range if you are not golfing. Problem solved for 2019, all range balls will be distributed by the starter so you will have to check in with one of our “grumpy” old men.
Happy New Year!
Golf
Course was in great shape. Highly recommend. Cart paths needed some work. Greens were in great shape.
Even wet this course was good. Greens immaculate ..
After all that rain I can honestly say that it was not that wet The greens are always in great shape . We had a great round at a very good pace
Rainy Sunday
Snuck in a round during the only dry 2 hours of the day. Cart path only, still got around Piper Bay in less than 2 hours greens were quick! And in great shape. A few traps flooded, course saturated, but overall nice overseeding, and well maintained
Good value
Course was cart path only after some heavy rain the prior day. Course was also recently over seeded. Stick out feature was the long par threes, usually over water. 200 yards from the white tees.
From Head Golf Professional; Sandpiper Bay does allow groups of 5 if pace of play is met. The golfer in this review finished his 18 hole round in less than 4 1/2 hours on Cart Path Only.
