Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation
About
The 18-hole Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina is a public golf course that opened in 1994. Designed by Tim Cate, Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation measures 7089 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 140 and a 73.7 USGA rating. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. The greens are bent and the fairways are bermuda.
Panther's Run was born to be a different kind of challenge than Lion's Paw. Golf course designer Tim Cate has unleashed this cat to prowl along the edge of a natural preserve and continually tests your ability to stay out of, or hit over, the surrounding marsh land. Wide fairways that twist and turn with a variety of elevations, plus scenic water features blend perfectly.
The front nine picks its way through hardwood forest while the back nine is more open. The course is laid out along the edge of a natural preserve and tests golfers' ability to negotiate the surrounding marsh land and water. The fairways twist and turn and show a variety of elevations, as much as 60 feet in fact.

Panthers
Lay out was good.
Greens a bit patchy. But for the most part ran true.
Thank you for the nice Four Star review of Panther's Run. The greens on this course struggled a bit earlier in the year, but have come along nicely and are getting even better daily. We hope you will visit us again soon!
Thank you for the wonderful Five Star review of Panther's Run. We really appreciate your patronage and feedback. Be sure to visit the other three Big Cats courses as well. Thanks again!
Panthers
Pace was ok but first nine holes were to be played cart path only. Group ignored that and stacked up on each other.
Thank you for the great Five Star review of Panther's Run. We truly appreciate it. I will pass your feedback along to our golf shop for review as well. Thanks again.
Thank you very much for the awesome Five Star review of Panther's Run. We are so glad you enjoyed your visit. Be sure to check out the other three Big Cats courses as well.

Friendly staff but course rough
Staff was great. Greens were bumpy, slow and had repair patches throughout so putting was difficult. Weeds in the fairways and tee boxes. Some areas were not mowed.
Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Panther's Run Golf Links. It is definitely a beautiful layout and always fun to play. We apologize the conditions did not meet your expectations on the date you played. I will pass your feedback along to our Director of Agronomy and follow up with him to make sure he has received it and taken it into consideration. We hope you will visit us again soon and see our continued progress.

Terrible conditions
This course is in awful condition. This course is the worst conditioned course in the surrounding area. The fairways are full of crab grass as well as the tee boxes. Many of the greens have pot holes and play like crap. Ive never seen a fairway so poor. I felt like i was playing on a closed course or one that went out of business. Many of the ocean ridge community has taken their business elsewhere and are not happy with the overall conditions of the cat courses in the neighborhood. I can only speak for this one but I can see what they mean. Meadowlands, crow creek, and sandpiper to name a few are much better places to play and more reasonably priced. This course is premium prices for awful conditions.
Not bad
The course gets terrible ratings but I had a good time. The sand traps weren’t raked and some of the rough wasnt mowed, not sure if there is a lack of staffing. Greens were rolling true 7/10 and fairways were good. It’s clear that the revenue managers are trying to capture higher rates for walkins because it was dead when we played. Probably giving too many discounts to memberships which hurts the regular transient rates. This course would clean up at $35 until 12 and $20 after noon. We tried to replay 9 and quoted $27. This is too high.
What happened
I play Panther’s Run years ago, I thought it was a beautiful course. My recent visit was very discouraging. The course has deteriorated to point of almost unplayable . The rough, although recently cut with the grass clippings all over the place were still 6 inches deep. Half of the greens needed serious work..
What happened
I’ve played this course years ago, I was very impressed. This time I was very impressed, but for the wrong reasons. The rough was recently cut. That must’ve been a foot high with amount of grass they left on the shoulder. There was crabgrass in the fairways and greens were bumpy. Very sad to see this course so rundown.
We apologize we were unable to meet your expectation on your most recent visit to Panther's Run. We did have some explosive growth of grass due to heavy rains prior to your date of play, which makes it difficult to get the mowers out to some of the areas on the course. We had the World Am tournament on two of our other courses that day, so it took some time to get the blowers over to Panther's Run, to blow off the clippings. Fortunately this has all been caught up and the course is mowed out very nicely now. We hope you will visit us again and see our continued progress.
Good Valued Course
Played Tigers Paw a few days before this, and enjoyed it more. Panther was a little banged up, many bald spots on the green. A lot of grass clippings too, might’ve just be unlucky on the day we played.
Last Round
I try to play this course ant the other cat courses each time I visit the Myrtle Beach area. In the past the courses have been great. What a huge disappointment this time around. Rotted out greens. Three groups on one hole. This will be my last round at Ocean Ridge Plantation. You would think Golfnow would warn us before we paid for this course in lousy condition. Shame on you. My last year with Golfpass as well.
We are happy to hear that you are a long time visitor of the Big Cats courses and that you have always been greatly satisfied with your experience in the past;. We deeply apologize this was not the case on your last visit, as indicated by the two negative reviews posted for your one round of golf on Panther's Run. This course is in the process of undergoing some extensive renovations and was not at its best during your visit. Our prices have been dramatically reduced to allow for this inconvenience and each guest is told in advance of playing and given the opportunity to play one of the other Big Cats, if preferred. Fortunately the greens on Panther's have leapt to life over the past couple of weeks and are in much better overall condition now, so this should not be an issue going forward. We hope you will visit us again and give us the opportunity to provide the same great conditions you have always experienced at Ocean Ridge.
Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Panther's Run. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to help create an even better golf experience for our guests in the future. Be sure to visit us again and see our continued progress.
