The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island
About
The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.
The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.
The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

A break in the weather
Seems as though lots of people had the same idea as us. That being to get out and play golf on the best weather day this week. Consequently the course was packed and pace of play was impacted. Enjoyed the round especially with long time visiting friends. Course itself was in its' usual great shape.
Marine Legends
Beautiful layout carved into the natural surroundings, everything you could want on a flat track; trees, moguls, water, fast flat guarded greens (strategically placed sand), long undulating fairways, flat smooth cart paths and tees, etc. All the details are carefully considered and maintained from tee makers to cart path edging. Challenging but forgiving on errant shots. Loved the drive through the Marine training facilities nostalic of my Army training days. Love to return to play at at peek season!
Fairways were open.
The night before we played had HEAVY rain. In spite of the standing water, tree debris and gale force wind we liked the course enough to play it again the next day when the weather conditions were more golf like.
The course was beautiful with large water on most of the holes, not a problem if you keep it in play.
Legends at Parris island
A typical military course. The design and layout looked like the other military courses I've played. It was wide open with few hazards and no special shot requirements. It was a three star and maybe three and a half stars in summer but far from the four and a half star golf now rating. I expected much more.
military excellence
This course was in great shape for the season. The layout was challenging from the back tee boxes. Had a great mix of challenging shots using all clubs. The only negative might be the bunkers lack of upkeep. However, the weather probably played a huge roll in their poor shape.
Friendly Staff
Loved the course! Beautiful! Condition. Would go there again in a heartbeat!
Great nature course
The course has beautiful setting. Although it took us 1 hour to get there, it is still worth the drive.
Great Time
Course was, as always, in great condition. Sand Trap served great food!
Best greens I played down this way
Greens were in excellent shape, very fast but true. Be sure to book extra time to get on the Base, it took us 40 minutes to be cleared (don't know if it would be better for US Citizens). They did let us in, but the course strongly suggested if we wanted to come back, to get the friends of Parris Island pass first. You can find out that information on the base website.
The Legends at Parris Island
Great place to play, great pace of play, the staff were extremely friendly, and a wonderful experience. The fairways, greenside bunkers and greens were in excellent condition. Plenty of water holes to increase the challenge. What a hidden gem for all player's level. Hopefully, the current base commander will continue to allow the public to enjoy this comfortable golfing landscape.
Great course...great experience!
What a wonderful round of golf and a unique way to spend the afternoon. . Playing golf on an excellent course and hearing Marine recruits training is a one of a kind experience. The course was outstanding. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Overall, a fantastic time. We'll go back for sure!!!
Wonderful experience
Great place to play, great pace of play, the people were extremely friendly, and it's a wonderful drive through the marine corps training facility with recruits practicing drills and marching! A wonderful way to spend Veterans Day eve!
Wonderful experience
Took a while to get to from Hilton Head but well worth the drive. Course very user friendly for all levels of play. Staff goes extra mile to make you day memorable. May not as "plush" as some courses closer to island but not as expensive either. Would definitely play again. And where else can you see our marines train following your round. Great day at the Legends at Paris Island.
really ejoyed ourselves,would play again
great course, super shape, would recommend, and cetrtainly would come AGAIN
true legend
Great golf, needn't say more, top rated for a good reason!
outstanding day and course BUT
The only problem was when we hit the 10th hole. How all of a sudden it can be backed up.(no ranger). There was group of 5 playing together, and another group before we (twosome) could go.Can you say S L O W.
wort the ride
The course was in great shape. The green were perfect..great day.
Good Conditions, Fair Challenge, but watch out for water
A gem in the middle of the Parris Island Marine Base. You need picture ID (driver's license) to get in, but surprisingly low security. If you have the time, the base also has an outstanding museum, which is a lot more than expected.
This is a relatively flat course that has had some moguls placed along the borders. Pretty much straight forward with some well place sand and some scary water shots. Most of the water and tree trouble is parallel to the fairway, so if you're a slicer or hooker, bring some extra balls.
Conditions were good; able to get under ball in most of fairway, but some spots were hard. Greens rolled true and were medium speed.
All in all, a beautiful fun layout to play
Great condition and good for couples of varying skill levels
Great conditions, few foursomes on course permit your own pace, unbeatable bargain, no grill after 2:00 so plan ahead,.
