The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island
About
The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.
The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.
The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Fun Day
Great course, well maintained. It's a shame more non military do not play this course. Its not difficult to get on to this base. The only thing about the course was the s l o w greens. However, they are working on that problem.
course in great condition
staff very friendly...course in very good condition...foursome in front of us very slow but what can you do ?
Love this course.
I could play this course every day. Very enjoyable round. We had the place to ourselves.
Great course
There was only one complaint. Improperly adjusted mower left uneven ridges in fairway. Otherwise a great round. Architect varied the difficulty of the holes nicely. A number of par fours required less than driver off the tee.
Great course
5th time playing and really like this course. Wish we had known greens were over sanded. May have changed our mind. Golf Now needs to have such conditions noted the way they do the aerated box at the booking site. Love the place though.
Awesome course
The course is great and I would recommend to any one.
We'll be back!
This course is an excellent value! Just three days post aeration and the greens were in good shape. Friendly staff, well placed bunkers, great layout. Can't wait to play it again.
Comfortable Pace of Play
I have been to this course several times and I appreciate the fact that I've been able to play at a reasonable pace without feeling rushed.
Hoooorahh
First time in the area golfing, course is perfect for beginners not too difficult, most holes are open have a few challenging holes.
Well worth the trip
Had read rave reviews about this course so decided to try it out. Man, was I glad I did. Very playable layout from all sets of tees, no homes anywhere near, gorgeous views of true low country salt marshes, and very solid conditions for a course of this price.
Greens were a bit firm, but putted fast and true. Fairways we sound so could play it as it lays without issue. Solid test from the tips, but easily scoreable. Staff was friendly and accommodating, and though range was just okay, balls were VERY reasonable. Overall, this course has got to be one of the best values in the area, I highly recommend it.
Beautiful Course
Very nicely designed. Good course for beginners and experienced players. Wonderful staff.
Great course
Had tee boxes for all levels of play. Greens were fast around noon slowed by the back nine. All around a great course.
Worth the drive!
Nice layout, wide fairways but enough hazards and bunkering to make it challenging. Greens were in great shape, putted true. Not much in the way of elevation changes, but for $29 (includes cart) well worth the drive from Hilton Head Island. Will play again on future visits to area.
Best base course you could ask for
Could not have been more pleased with this course. Absolutely beautiful !
Great Experience
The setting is beautiful and this course provides an excellent experience for the green fees. Better value than the neighboring courses on Hilton Head. I'll be back again!
legends at parris island
Great course. Great value. The grill is awesome too!!
nice place to play golf
Golf Course was in very good condition greens were fast and consistent good grass on the fairways plenty of Wildlife.......
staff was friendly
"OORAH".
Great day, great pairing with Charles, a USMA drill sergeant, and wonderful course conditions.
The course didn't play too difficult but I was impressed by how well it was maintained. Charles explained to me that Parris Island hosts many parents visiting their sons and daughters stationed at Parris Island and so the course is given special care.
I will admit this was the first time I had to go through several military checkpoints before playing golf.
A great day and it gave me yet another opportunity to thank one of our young soldiers for their service.
Great when you get in
Firstly, this course is on a US Marine base. As foreigners it took us an hour to get in due to heightened security. If you are not sure, allow plenty of time to get through to the course, it is worth it.
My wife and I had a 12.30 tee time and we had a clear round. Just one 4 ball in front and they let us through.
The course itself was great. Lots of water and some fair carries over marshland but it was in good condition with good fairways and fast but tricky greens. The scenery was great and overall was a really nice course.
The alligators, and there were lots of them, just added to our enjoyment as well as the prolific bird life.
Reception was very friendly and accommodating and the golf carts were nearly new.
Recommend the course? Most definitely.
Where the Marines are made
This course is fantastic. The value for the money is incredible. Anyone can come here and play. when you enter the pro shop ( A club house is slated to built later this year) you will be greeted by Casey, who definitely makes you feel at home. Codey is the Asst. Golf Pro as well as Tom and they are extremely knowledgable about everything golf. Andy is the head golf pro and has been around the game for a long time. The best part of the course is there are no houses or condos and the scenery is relaxing. Depends on when you play you may hear the future Marines training (normally on Friday) not far away. Have no fear no live weapons are being fired at that location. They have a shooting range for that. If you plan on making a day of it, the museum is free and definitely worth it. Also right behind the pro shop is a path that takes to a historic landmark. Everyone (to include non military) should come and play this course, you will be pleasantly surprised. Make sure to practice your putting before heading our!!!
