Rating 73.3

The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.

The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.

The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Great course

Had tee boxes for all levels of play. Greens were fast around noon slowed by the back nine. All around a great course.

Worth the drive!

Nice layout, wide fairways but enough hazards and bunkering to make it challenging. Greens were in great shape, putted true. Not much in the way of elevation changes, but for $29 (includes cart) well worth the drive from Hilton Head Island. Will play again on future visits to area.

Great Experience

The setting is beautiful and this course provides an excellent experience for the green fees. Better value than the neighboring courses on Hilton Head. I'll be back again!

"OORAH".

Great day, great pairing with Charles, a USMA drill sergeant, and wonderful course conditions.

The course didn't play too difficult but I was impressed by how well it was maintained. Charles explained to me that Parris Island hosts many parents visiting their sons and daughters stationed at Parris Island and so the course is given special care.

I will admit this was the first time I had to go through several military checkpoints before playing golf.

A great day and it gave me yet another opportunity to thank one of our young soldiers for their service.

Great when you get in

Firstly, this course is on a US Marine base. As foreigners it took us an hour to get in due to heightened security. If you are not sure, allow plenty of time to get through to the course, it is worth it.
My wife and I had a 12.30 tee time and we had a clear round. Just one 4 ball in front and they let us through.
The course itself was great. Lots of water and some fair carries over marshland but it was in good condition with good fairways and fast but tricky greens. The scenery was great and overall was a really nice course.
The alligators, and there were lots of them, just added to our enjoyment as well as the prolific bird life.
Reception was very friendly and accommodating and the golf carts were nearly new.
Recommend the course? Most definitely.

Where the Marines are made

This course is fantastic. The value for the money is incredible. Anyone can come here and play. when you enter the pro shop ( A club house is slated to built later this year) you will be greeted by Casey, who definitely makes you feel at home. Codey is the Asst. Golf Pro as well as Tom and they are extremely knowledgable about everything golf. Andy is the head golf pro and has been around the game for a long time. The best part of the course is there are no houses or condos and the scenery is relaxing. Depends on when you play you may hear the future Marines training (normally on Friday) not far away. Have no fear no live weapons are being fired at that location. They have a shooting range for that. If you plan on making a day of it, the museum is free and definitely worth it. Also right behind the pro shop is a path that takes to a historic landmark. Everyone (to include non military) should come and play this course, you will be pleasantly surprised. Make sure to practice your putting before heading our!!!

Enjoyable all around!

The people and the course are both fantastic at Parris Island. We were late for our time due to the delay at the security gates, and the friendly staff in the shop just smiled understandingly and told us not to hurry. This is a scenic course by low country standards, and close to historic Beaufort which is another bonus.

Disappointed

Looking forward to playing Parris after good word of mouth review, but conditions were not good... fairways were dry and thin. I suspect the freezes this year that damaged all courses took a greater toll on Parris. Nice layout but the conditions made it a marginal experience. Not what I had expected based on reviews.

Course appears to be quite open, but is challenging.

Loved the greens. They were extremely fast on the day of our play. Even though we waited on almost every shot, we golfed 18 holes in less than 4-1/2 hours. It was nice to be on a course that was not surrounded by houses/condos. Could not believe this course was in the location of basic training for the Marines.

We received a history lesson from the Asst Golf Pro on the background of the names of the holes and it was quite interesting. Looking forward to returning next year and hopefully being able to purchase the book that is being developed on the history of each hole.

Great day!

Great course for the greens fees we paid!

Great course design and the conditions for Feb were very good. Due to the regional drought we expected worse conditions. The greens were well manicured and lightning fast! Beautiful scenery! Everything was in very good condition and very clean right down to the ball washers!

Very fast and challenging greens.

Very well worth playing, loved the layout. Reminds of a Florida course. Very difficult greens to read and putt. Very fast as well. Would play it again. Thanks Marines!

The Legneds is a great course

Conditions were very good, as they have been all summer. Course was playing very difficult due to wind and gusts, but as one of our group said after teh round "thanks for the laughs". it was still fun to play here.
