The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island
About
The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.
The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.
The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Nice course
Very good value for money as course was in great shape, good test and incredible views.
I highly recommend for most any level of golfer
Enjoyable all around!
The people and the course are both fantastic at Parris Island. We were late for our time due to the delay at the security gates, and the friendly staff in the shop just smiled understandingly and told us not to hurry. This is a scenic course by low country standards, and close to historic Beaufort which is another bonus.
Disappointed
Looking forward to playing Parris after good word of mouth review, but conditions were not good... fairways were dry and thin. I suspect the freezes this year that damaged all courses took a greater toll on Parris. Nice layout but the conditions made it a marginal experience. Not what I had expected based on reviews.
Course appears to be quite open, but is challenging.
Loved the greens. They were extremely fast on the day of our play. Even though we waited on almost every shot, we golfed 18 holes in less than 4-1/2 hours. It was nice to be on a course that was not surrounded by houses/condos. Could not believe this course was in the location of basic training for the Marines.
We received a history lesson from the Asst Golf Pro on the background of the names of the holes and it was quite interesting. Looking forward to returning next year and hopefully being able to purchase the book that is being developed on the history of each hole.
Great day!
Great course for the greens fees we paid!
Great course design and the conditions for Feb were very good. Due to the regional drought we expected worse conditions. The greens were well manicured and lightning fast! Beautiful scenery! Everything was in very good condition and very clean right down to the ball washers!
Great value
Great value for the money. Course was in great shape with nice layout but greens extremely fast making it a real challenge.
scenic, just challenging enough
course is in great shape for the time of year, greens a bit faster than most in the area, thoroughly enjoy it each time we play here
Awesome fast greens!
Good layout, pretty straightforward. Lots of wildlife. Superfast, slick greens!
The course was fun to play.
Really enjoyed playing this course. It was very well maintained. The staff was very friendly. The greens were in great shape. They were quick. Very nice course design. Worth the trip.
Very fast and challenging greens.
Very well worth playing, loved the layout. Reminds of a Florida course. Very difficult greens to read and putt. Very fast as well. Would play it again. Thanks Marines!
The Legneds is a great course
Conditions were very good, as they have been all summer. Course was playing very difficult due to wind and gusts, but as one of our group said after teh round "thanks for the laughs". it was still fun to play here.
difficulty with payment at Parris Island
The course personal wanted to charge us more than what was agreed upon and stated she could only give military the price we were to get from Golf Now.
After a hassle and showing her my iPhone confirmation did she give us the price we were to have.
Great value for the money
Went and played this course on a whim. Let me tell you the Marines know how to keep up a golf course. If it was not for the golf cart paths being a little bumpy, this course was great. 4/5 stars for me. Plus you get to hear gunfire in the background of an absolutely beautiful course. If you are in a rental car don't forget to bring your agreement. They almost didn't let us on the base without it.
Excellent course for the money!
Excellent golf course from tee to green. Greens were perfect and fast. Would recommend this course to golfers of all levels.
What a deal
Beautiful golf course, challenging but fair. Great tee boxes, fairways and greens.
Straight forward and fun
The Legends is a great course that has many straight forward holes with open fairways. The only problem is it's so popular. The play at times can get slow.
Poppy from Canada
This course is challenging from the white tees.
Seemed longer than 6500 yards.
Fairways and greens were painted green but the greens were in good shape.
Golf now should post a warning in BOLD that any foreign golfers will need to produce a passport or the will be turned away at the gate of the base. the group entering behind use were turned away after driving from Hilton Head.
Thank you for supporting the USMC and The Legends Golf Course. Semper Fi!
