Oyster Bay Golf Links
About
Oyster Bay Golf Links, in Sunset Beach near Calabash, N.C., opened in 1983, a precursor to the Grand Strand's first true, golf course building boom.
Oyster Bay Golf Links, another classic creation by Developer Larry Young and Architect Dan Maples, is a rare blend of the various philosophies of golf course architecture.
Oyster Bay is one of the most beautiful and diversified courses to be found anywhere. It is located in Sunset Beach, NC just minutes North of its predecessor, Marsh Harbour.
"The real story is that Oyster Bay is still one of the must-plays of Myrtle Beach," a TravelGolf.com reviewer said. "The haunting layout on the shores of Twin Lakes has a collection of holes that are as well-conceived and scenery-soaked as any in the Grand Strand."
The par-70 course is just under 6,700 yards and has two island green par 3s. The course does show some signs of its age, including the clubhouse, the range with its beat-up ball machine, and the greens are old-fashioned Bermuda known for being slow.

Feeding time on the 15th hole! Photo submitted by JackStraw6 on 08/31/2017
Needs help
Greeting was average and first look impression was ok but then we teed off. The tee boxes were showing lots of wear with little preventive maintenance being done. Fairways. The mower being used was scalping with one set of blades and the others needed sharpened Very poor shape. Greens. Who ever mowed just went back and forth on the green but never made laps arround the perimeter They had clumps of poa annua grass growing 1/2 inch tall. Probably the slowest greens I've ever putted on. Sand traps were not groomed Rough was 6 to 8 inches tall This course needs someone to step up and manage before it goes under
Horrible Course Conditions
The course conditions were horrible, the staff was friendly however but for the $82 green fee much was left to be desired. Areas of a few greens were completely unplayable and burnt and sand filled. Areas of the fairway were muddy and completely filled with ruts from tire tracks. The caveat was the staff and the service.
Buns Father’s favorite course
The club was very friendly, it was our first time playing the course. It was 24 hours after a ton of rain and the course and bunkers were fine. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Great Course…Customer Rep for Check in, Not So Much
After calling to get rates the evening of the twelfth, we got quotes of 55 per player with the food and drink amenities. Upon showing up, John proceeded to get irate while then telling us it was 84 to play. Eventually, we got the rate lowered to 55 or 65 without the vouchers for food and drinks much to John’s annoyance. Very unprofessional behavior as a customer facing employee. The course was awesome but did have a few greens being patched. Would definitely play again if I didn’t have to deal with rude personnel at checkin. All of the other employees, the bartender, the starter, Sara and Dennis were pleasant and kind to our group.
Great course
The course is very nice. Few complaints, you're charging over $100 a person for a round of golf spend a few dollars and put up whole signs so we know where we're going. Can't spare a few bucks for a sign use some spray paint on the cart path. The couple ahead of us wound up quitting because they got so lost they had no idea what holes they were on. Also they need more blue flags for the golf carts those of us that are handicapped need those so the starter isn't rude until you have to be on cart path only do we have to get the Ada involved? Other than that a great round of golf. Also the car paths can use some repaving okay I've had kidney stones it didn't hurt as much as those cart paths
Oyster Bay has lost its shine
Pace of play was slow and no Marshall to push the slow golfers. No ball washers on course or carts. Very few rakes so some traps were not raked. Course was in decent condition but not worth what they are charging.
not worth what we paid
course conditions are rough.....and not what we expected for 132 per person
greens were okay.....but tee decks, fairways way too shaggy.....and bunkers were appalling....cart paths are easily 10 years past having to be re done
Very good course; pins a little unfair
I loved Oyster Bay, with the exception of a few pin placements. Right off the bat, #1 was almost impossible. There are just some places where the greens are sloped too much to place a pin, and they chose these places about 6-7 times. Other than that, very good course, and good value.
Slow play! Great value
Likes everything about the course except for slow play. Front 9 went smooth but coming off 9 to 10, there was. A 3 group back up. 20 minutes to hit again. Then all through the back 9 there were jammed up tee boxes. Enjoyed the course, didn’t enjoy the 10-15-20 min wait on holes on the back.
Course is going downhill.
Oyster Bay was a nice course at one time, but is currently in poor repair. Cart paths are terrible. Bunkers are worse. Hopefully current owners sell to new owners that are interested in reviving this course to its full potential.
Gator s On the green..
Yes gators were plenty on back 9. They were still but added to the challenge. Good conditions for spring time. Few bare spots on fairways. Greens and tees were good. Carts are dated gas powered tugs - adequate . Many islands holes and lots of water hazards. Bunkers were packed down.
