Oyster Bay Golf Links
About
Oyster Bay Golf Links, in Sunset Beach near Calabash, N.C., opened in 1983, a precursor to the Grand Strand's first true, golf course building boom.
Oyster Bay Golf Links, another classic creation by Developer Larry Young and Architect Dan Maples, is a rare blend of the various philosophies of golf course architecture.
Oyster Bay is one of the most beautiful and diversified courses to be found anywhere. It is located in Sunset Beach, NC just minutes North of its predecessor, Marsh Harbour.
"The real story is that Oyster Bay is still one of the must-plays of Myrtle Beach," a TravelGolf.com reviewer said. "The haunting layout on the shores of Twin Lakes has a collection of holes that are as well-conceived and scenery-soaked as any in the Grand Strand."
The par-70 course is just under 6,700 yards and has two island green par 3s. The course does show some signs of its age, including the clubhouse, the range with its beat-up ball machine, and the greens are old-fashioned Bermuda known for being slow.

Feeding time on the 15th hole! Photo submitted by JackStraw6 on 08/31/2017
Great course,Very poorly maintained-a real shame
Great course in Extreme need of repair ,cart paths have degraded even more,to the point of dangerous(sooner or later, someone will be injured.Oh and throwing sand on asphalt does not fix the problem..
Breakfast and lunch menu is a joke and also needs to addressed.
From what it once was , to now is a real Shame !
Oyster Bay NC golf
Nice layout. Good fairways and greens. Pace of play good.
Worst golf cart paths I've ever seen.
Would certainly play here again.
HORRIBLE - Stay Away!
Horrible course. It cost $100 for 18 holes and a cart. The tee boxes were an absolute disaster. The pace of play was almost 6hrs for 18 holes. The staff let off foursomes on the back nine and placed them in the middle of peoples rounds. No Ranger keeping pace of play moving. Fairways and greens were ok. Could be a beautiful course if the right people owned it and ran it properly. Don’t waste your time and hard earned money playing here. Plenty of other courses where it’s cheaper and magnitudes better!
Beautiful setting
Beautiful course set in a costal area with marshlands and plenty of wildlife to observe. The maintenance was a little lacking mainly the cart paths were in need of repair.
Slow!!! Rude Staff!
Pace of play got messed up and super slow because a twosome skipped ahead and got stuck between two foursomes. Did not ask permission. When we reported it. Staff said it wasn’t a problem really and that they only should have asked and it would have been fine but on multiple holes, there was four groups on one hole because of the skip. Staff either was incompetent or knew the folks causing the issue and gave them preferential statements. Or starters didn’t want to deal with confrontation even though that’s part of the job.
Play Time
Very busy weekend to be letting players play in a group of 5. They would not let us play through as a 2 players. The monitor that asked as how we were doing told them they were holding everyone up that they should split them up. They said they got permission before play.
Ladies bathroom were dirty with no lights.
Cart paths were awful.
The money we pay this should be a lot better coarse.
Will not return.

Some of the tee boxes had bare spots as did some of the greens.
Greens are best part of the course
Another classic southern coastal course that has past its heyday. The greens are still pretty good and roll well but the rest of the course is getting pretty dated. Cart paths are brutal and many of the holes are spotty and could use a good upgrade. There are some great holes in the layout but the conditions don't do them justice. Not sure we will play it again for the cost.
MLH
Course was in great shape with a couple of exceptions- some of sand traps were not in good shape and a couple of fairways were needing some work- the heat index was about 110° so we could see why these problems existed. Overall the course was a great place to play.
Far cry from what it once was back when I played it in 2000. Starter told us all the rules about fixing ball marks and where to drive carts. He for got to tell us the course was just aerated and the tee boxes and greens had tons of bare spots. Not good, too bad.
Slow
Took a little over five hours to play. Most holes had 3 groups on them. Greens are still recovering from where the punched them. Slow and bumpy. Bunker haven’t been raked in a couple days. There were hard and had a lot of wash outs. Good layout with a lot of nice views.
Course needs some love and staff needs customer focus
Upon pulling up to the bag drop, we were greeted with an unfriendly attendant, turns out somebody didn't show up to work with him, so naturally that meant take it out on the customer. I asked if I could get a cup of coffee and was told by the lady in the restaurant area that it was $2, on the other side and get it myself, then walked away in the other direction. We got on the course and never were told we were starting on 10, so naturally the distances were off and it is always good to start out being behind off the first hole. The course needs some love, it is a decent layout, but the condition was mediocre except for the greens that were very nice. The guy )a member) we were paired with felt obliged to pick up my ball, toss it down improving my lie a number of times, sounds great until you can't record the score. Then two times the ranger pulled up while I was about to hit, stopped 10 feet away and then just stared at me. I asked him if I could help him and he said, "no, I am good, I am here to help you", I can say pulling up as somebody addresses a shot is NOT helpful.
Extremely overpriced
Wow, can’t believe this course cost as much as it did. Greens and tee boxes were terrible. Not sure what they are doing with the money they bring in but they definitely aren’t putting it into the course. I was extremely disappointed and embarrassed that we paid as much as we did.
