Oyster Bay Golf Links

About
Oyster Bay Golf Links, in Sunset Beach near Calabash, N.C., opened in 1983, a precursor to the Grand Strand's first true, golf course building boom.
Oyster Bay Golf Links, another classic creation by Developer Larry Young and Architect Dan Maples, is a rare blend of the various philosophies of golf course architecture.
Oyster Bay is one of the most beautiful and diversified courses to be found anywhere. It is located in Sunset Beach, NC just minutes North of its predecessor, Marsh Harbour.
"The real story is that Oyster Bay is still one of the must-plays of Myrtle Beach," a TravelGolf.com reviewer said. "The haunting layout on the shores of Twin Lakes has a collection of holes that are as well-conceived and scenery-soaked as any in the Grand Strand."
The par-70 course is just under 6,700 yards and has two island green par 3s. The course does show some signs of its age, including the clubhouse, the range with its beat-up ball machine, and the greens are old-fashioned Bermuda known for being slow.

Feeding time on the 15th hole! Photo submitted by JackStraw6 on 08/31/2017
Overbooked
Course is great but they send players off both 9s which makes the round much slower than it should be.
Very scenic golf course
This is our favourite course in the Myrtle Beach area. When the rates are reasonable we definitely make an effort to play this course. It is a very scenic golf course. Depending on the weather you will definitely see your fair share of alligators.
Great layout
Great layout and price is fair. Condition of course is an issue. Seems like it is not a priority like it used to be.
Great as always
One of my favorite courses, it was fun and the couse was in great shape
10/10 recommend
The layout was great and course conditions were not bad for the time of year. Will definitely come back and play this one.
32 Years later
A long time has passed since we were here. Unfortunately the course is not weathering any better than the 3 of us. The course is very playable and just needs a bit of attention. I don't even mind that the cart paths are horrible (I don't play on the cart paths), that is just aesthetics. However that and a couple of greens that have had a fungus issue in a couple spots does tarnish an otherwise beautiful gem. If you can get a good Hot Deal, play it.
Can't wait to play Oyster Bay again.
Awesome day playing this fabulous Links! Can't wait to play it again! People were friendly and accommodating at the Course!
Good value, but some criticisms
We planned on playing 18 holes, but the cold, rainy weather caused us to stop after nine holes. Our booking included breakfast, lunch and two drinks, so it was a very good value. The course has interesting holes and each one has several features that can cause problems. I liked playing from the “super-senior” tees. The greens are annoyingly undulating, with hardly any flat surfaces. Any given putt can be both uphill and downhill with various breaks - rarely-seen features at other quality courses. The greens are too tricked-out for my taste. The cart paths must get repaved, maintenance that is clearly years overdue. On the front nine there is a par 3 with an island green; there was a 10-foot alligator sitting on the edge of the green when we got to the tee box and it was still there when we got to the green. That added a little more excitement to the hole. The course staff were very friendly and helpful. Given the many other good courses in the area, we will probably not return to this one.
Scenic track
Enjoyed my round here... great views, wildlife, fair play and not too busy. Only complaint is the cart paths in terrible condition.
