First time playing in Florida

As advertised, this is a classic course. It was in very good condition overall but the tee boxes were a not very smooth. The layout was good, not too much water or bunkers. My son, a beginner, had a great experience and so did I.

5 Hour Round

I understand they have to make money, but FAR too many tee times booked back to back. And the tee boxes, most were atrocious. Decently priced for fall golf. I paid for range balls through the GolfNow app and did mobile check in, was unable to redeem my bucket and no one around to help.

WHAT A NICE DIFFERENCE!

I hadn't played Rio in over 6 years, and while it was a decent course back then, it has upped its game now!

Staff was very friendly upon check-in. They even had a doorman. The new clubhouse and dining room are fabulous.

Pace of play was fine. The tee boxes were generally not good, sandy and little grass, but you could tell that they were working on them. Fairways and bunkers were mostly great.

Greens were fabulous, quick and undulating. Very easy to 3 or even 4 putt!

Course layout was challenging. I visited many pine forests, but always had an opportunity to punch out. The new GPS golf carts were nice, but the geo-fencing feature was too restrictive. There were times that we couldn't drive in the rough! Our cart had no sand for divots. The new restaurant serves some terrific food, try their ribeye sandwich - wow! Overall very good experience. I'll be back.

Tough but Fair

Pace of play was slow and the tee boxes(blue) need some attention, sandy and not much grass.

Aside from that, the course was in very good shape.

Beware, there are a lot of trees and dog legs.

Still Garbage

Start was 20 minutes after scheduled tee time. Took 3 hours for a threesome of good players to play the front 9! Thought things had changed. Hadn’t been there in 18 months because it was just ridiculously slow. Thought I’d give them another chance. Mistake. Never again. And unhelpful staff to boot.

Dear u314162297037,

In our review of our times that day that are kept by our GPS systems, the highest average time was between 10am-11am which during that time was 4 hours and 26 minutes. While this was an average, which means some people played longer and some less time during that period, given the hour before and hour after only varied by 21 minutes and 13 minutes respectfully, there were no rounds over 5 hours that day and definitely none on the 6 hour pace you were suggesting. Again, while our Visage GPS is not full proof, we have found it to be pretty accurate on pace as this is partly how the battery life is recorded by the system which is part of the warranty on the cart batteries.

I only get technical because while all golf courses this time of the year, especially during the holiday time, experience a different level of players, some perhaps who aren't as skilled as your group, tend to come out and play and are not known for their fast pace of play. While we encourage players to pick up once they reach double bogie, or we do move them ahead to catch up to the next group if they fall behind, if the whole course is playing at the same pace, and all groups are keeping up with each other, it becomes a challenge to try to speed up 140-160 players all in unison.

Having said all of the above, we do try our best, we have course rangers on all day this time of the year, our starter has a message for group that we anticipate could cause pace issues on the pace of play expectations. Looking at some of the recent reviews, while we don't receive "Excellent" ratings under Pace of Play, we do not often get hammered with "Poor" anymore as well, I think our Staff do an as good of job as can be expected given the variety of expectations of players that come to Rio.

Again, my apologies on your less than desirable time that it took you to play Rio Pinar. I am very open to hosting you again here at Rio as our guests, but, I will not promise a less than 4 hour round, especially at this time of the year. Please reach out to me should you wish to take me up on this offer, I would be happy to make an early tee time for you to play which I think would better suited to good players.

Sincerely,

Tom Jackson
