discount for punching holes
overall speed of playing was nice, but the course have lots of area are in process of repairs. Hole punching all around the green area, and thick sand buildup on the green. so not worth spending $40 to play without putting. basically hit the balls to where close or on the green then you should just move on to next hole. basically driving range condition of a game.
Always a Good Experience
One of my favorite courses in the Orlando.area. The practice green will always give you a good idea of greens on the course and it’s always in great shape. Staff is friendly to a person from the pro shop to the starter and cart wranglers.
My only major area for improvement is pace of play. The foursome ahead of us was playing from the blue tees, which were obviously inappropriate for them. Never saw a marshal encouraging them to pick up the pace or move up a set of tees. I got notices in my cart about being N minutes behind, but we were waiting for the stragglers ahead of us.
Club House and Amenities are Amazing.
The course is actually in kind of rough shape. They’re about to aerate the course and or greens next week. It’s not worth $60. Maybe $30 at best rn. The starter was absolutely amazing and very helpful. Drinks and food are great. Course is ehhh.
Worth the wait
The stars aligned and I was finally able to play a round at Rio Pinar. Mine was a true country club experience. Everything about the facility was top notch, from the staff to the course to the club house, and you can tell they take the game and golfer experience seriously. I found the course a good challenge and the finishing holes are as advertised. Go ahead, treat yourself and play this absolute gem, you’ll leave with a smile and the urge to book another round.
Ranger Rick
Played the front 9 in about 2 hours. Made the turn, 10 was empty. Walked off 10 green to Ranger Rick in a perturbed state, calling out that we were 20 minutes behind time. Asked us if we had stopped at the turn, said we were backing up groups. Perhaps the groups in front of us stopped in. Played the rest of the back 9, many times leaving the green with nobody on the tee box of the hole we just completed. I'm a regular there and will be back, but the other guys in the foursome were a bit upset. Finished in a little over 4 hours.
Great shape
Course is in great shape. Greens roll true. Pace of play could use some help
Rio Pinar -- Very nice layout
Rio Pinar is an old PGA track that reminds me of the Don ross type designs. The fairways are fairly narrow and the greens are small compared to today's designs. The driving range was very nice. I found the course to be a fair test which most golfers would enjoy. I wanted to see how well my game would stack up. I learned that I was having trouble reading the greens which led to 22 putts on the back 9 , my first 9 holes. I corrected most of that on the front 9 but the damage was done. I did enjoy the course a great deal and I plan to come back often in the future. Highly recommend this course.
Tuesday is the new Friday
Great day on the links. All the other golfers must of played early in the day. We only saw 4-5 other twosomes the entire day.
Love This Course
Great course to play, very forgiving. Only issue was that it hasn't rained in a while and the fairways were dry. Greens were in great shape. Starters, drink cart girl and rangers were really nice. Went to the restaurant afterwards and was disappointed with the new menu. Wasn't the same as the website or previous visits. Waitress was super nice but had her hands tied for substitutions and such. I doubt I'll go back there for food anytime soon.
Way too expensive
Played Rio again yesterday to give it another go. However, the prices are outrageous and they wanted to charge me for my special need son who can’t be left at home to ride in the cart. This meant I needed two carts. The mgr. did refund me the money for the second cart however, they did let a group of five go out in front of us with three karts. They arrogance of the staff is was I’ll never pay for a membership. Pretty sad given I grew up in Orlando and to see this course get saved from death row and being close to level of arrogance is mind blowing.
Coming Back
1st, this is a gorgeous property. 2nd, the staff was very attentive- all of them from the outside guys, to the starter, the beverage girl, everyone. 3rd, the new owner is bringing this place back to glory. Greens were good, rolled true. Conditions were dry, but with the current drought that's understandable.
Long Waits and Restricted Golf Cart Driving
Our round started with us waiting close to 45 minutes past our intended tee time. There was a massive backup and didn’t seem to be much emphasis on getting it moving. After that, we had several issues with our golf cart due to the restrictions set. It really limits your ability to drive anywhere besides the fairway and the specified cart path. If you miss the fairway at all, you need to go explore the rough on foot to find your ball, which further slows the pace of play. We also had several instances where it had issues because we were driving on the edge of the fairway. We also experienced several times where it would completely stop working. We had to turn it off and back on again multiple times and sat there for over 10 minutes before it started moving again. I found out our cart wasn’t the only one experiencing these problems. Overall, the course felt overpriced for what you got. I wouldn’t recommend unless you can get in for a cheaper rate.
