"Robbery Ranch"
I've been playing this course for over 20 years, and each year during the summer the conditions somehow get worse. I keep praying that the management of this course get their heads out of their...
At least 50% of the fairways are dirt. If you play the ball down and hit the majority of the fairways on the par 4s and 5s, you better bring three or four towels so that you can clean all the mud off your irons and woods after the fact. The sheer neglect that this course has had to endure at the hands of the guys who are tasked with maintaining course conditions is shameful.
I noticed on their website, they hype this course up as one of the best munis with the best conditions in the state. LIES!!! This course USED to be a gem, but after the city relinquished management to the other crew, the course that I used to love to play has turned into the most pathetic shell of itself anyone could imagine.
The hardcore loyalists who play this "course" regularly will defend it, but anyone who has played courses like Aguila or Papago will be left dumbfounded after spending around the same amount to play this dog track. It's very strange how other legendary courses can maintain grass in their fairways. Maybe Dobson ranch isn't so legendary after all. I have advice for the the people wanting to play this course who never have in the past...DON'T! For the geniuses who manage this course, I suggest you do the hard things to get this course back to it legendary state, because what you're doing (or not doing) to this course is a shame and travesty. Try to forget about profits and think about your legacy while you still have one.
Ranger was excessive
I booked a 4 some early Friday morning, everything was great until the 2nd hole when the ranger on staff was overly dramatic about pace. Our group was on time for tee time and playing another group of 4. As soon as they would clear the fairway we would hit. The ranger literally stayed on our hip from hole 2 through hole 10 talking to us about playing ready golf when there was literally no one behind our group. We had one restroom stop and he immediately came over and said we should be hitting meanwhile our buddy is using the restroom, mind you again there was no behind us and could still see the group ahead of us. He ruined our experience and most likely won’t return as we felt he was picking on our group majority of our time there.
July 26
Course is in terrible shape. Greens very bad, general grass on the course was sparse at best. Seldom had good grass to hit from in the fairway. There was better patches in the rough. So sad for this once great course.
Couldn't Play
Although I received an email confirming my reservation, when we got to the course they did not have our reservation. In fact there was a tournament. I hope I don't get charged for this.
It's unfortunate, because we do like playing this course.
Conditions
Good value for summertime but the course is in rough shape..
One of my Favorites
Course was in okay shape, greens were still healing after being punched. Fairways were okay, some bare spots. Pace of play was outstanding.
Comfortable course
A nice balance of long and short, dog-legs and long par 5’s.
It has promis
The off course amenities are the best I’ve seen at a public municipal course. If they spent as much time on the fairways bunkers and grains, this could conceivably be the best municipal course in the country. Layout is phenomenal. It just needs a little work in the fairways.
Facility itself is nice
Course leaves much to be desired, greens were horrible because they were punched 2 weeks prior. A lot of the tee boxes lacked grass in spots. Bunkers felt like desert not sand. Was disappointed even though it was only $19 + tax.
Fun Course
Hope the conditions get better works being done just have to wait it out.
Never disappointed here and for the money its one of the best deals in the area hands down
The ranch
Greens still bumpy and sandy from air rationing. Otherwise all good.
Normally enjoyable course, but very poor communication on conditions
Tee time came with an "aerification warning" so I anticipated playing punched greens which I'm fine with. What I didn't find out until I got there was that the greens would be absolutely covered in sand, and also only 9 holes on the course were open. Felt pretty scummy to not communicate this, definitely won't be playing there again this summer.
Yikes
I've played this course for over 20 years. Avoid at all costs for now. Greens punched and sanded, fairways... No grass. There are so many GUR areas even close to greens that aren't tagged. Wait a couple weeks at least. Hopefully scarring heals. Worst shape I've ever seen the course in. Pure yikes...
