Too much hype…
Not sure why YouTube people or ‘pros’ think this place is worth the time or money. Glorified Kokopelli…which is awful as well. That’s it…that’s the review.
Birthday outing
I went to play for my 40th bday. The starter held us up for 10 minutes before we teed off. After our drive off the second tee, the Marshall came and complained we were playing too slow. Ruined my birthday outing. For being blamed for something we didn’t even do.
Put it on your list
First time playing Dobson Ranch and I am glad I did. The course was in good shape with the exception of very hard/dry tee boxes which made putting tees in next to impossible. Nothing a little water and aeration couldn’t fix. Greens were decent speed with the usual ball marks a public course fights but they were good to putt. Very nice clean carts. Extremely friendly staff who bend over backwards to make the experience even better. I’m looking forward to playing it again now that I have a better idea of the layout. Good job Dobson Ranch!
Terrible first experience
Booked a 2:09pm tee time on Golfnow. Showed up at 1:30pm and when I checked in I was told "they are behind but I don't know by how much." Warmed up on range, hit some putts. Teed off 25-30 mins after my tee time and was told the back nine and the gapping should open up. Got to the turn and it was backed up. Waited 20 minutes on 12th tee before we could tee off. Left the course and went to Pro Shop and told them situation. Said you booked on Golfnow "I don't have your money man." Terrible first experience of the course and will not be returning. No rangers out there no one pushing pace and no one seems to care.
Great value
I have been playing this course for years and it’s never been in better shape than now. It’s one of very few courses that you can easily walk. It’s got a good mix of birdie holes with challenging holes. The staff is accommodating and friendly. This course gets a lot of play so rounds can sometimes take longer than expected.
Awesome place!
This is a very nice course! It's well kept with good tee boxes, fairways greens and sand traps. Even though the first he was backed up about 20 minutes, once on the course the pace of play was great. The off course amenities were superb!! They have 35 top tracer bays, a nine-hole putt-putt course that is free to play, and a really nice grill along with family games! I definitely recommend this place, you won't be disappointed!
Coolest place to play and practice on the planet!!!
This place isn’t just your ordinary course and driving range…This place is like a theme park for anyone who likes golf, even just a little bit…there’s a putting course, practice areas…and great food and drink…I lost myself for a whole day yesterday and now I’m back again!!
No sand
Bunkers are like concrete. Bathroom on 12 has been out of service for weeks now. Management seems only to care about the range.
Not great
Dobson Ranch management recently increased the green fees beyond the seasonal high expected at this time of year. I find the course not worth the price now. Sand traps were not adequately prepared - not raked deeply - very hard surface below the very shallow surface. It seems that for some reason the ball marks on the greens are not being repaired as regularly as in years past - not sure why; maybe they had ground crews doing that in the past and are not now, I don't know. Grass depth in the rough is very irregular, but generally very short or non-existent. The fairways are also cut too short in my opinion. I get the feeling that the demand for play at this course has made management fat and happy and less attendant to the details that entice experienced players back consistently. It seems like this management group is more focused on the upgraded driving range than the golf course these days, which from my perspective is unfortunate. My regular weekly foursome now tries to play other courses in the area instead of this old favorite.
Good Value
Course in good conditioner then bunkers. Most lacking enough sand
Nice Track
We really enjoyed the day. Only issue was the rough. Not much grass.
Greens and fairways were in great shape.
Big greens with slope and contours
Playing single, paired up with another single and a twosome that was long and wild so we were looking for balls regularly and got behind. The Marshall asked us nicely to pick up the pace and get back in position. Only three sets of tees and the middle tees were to far for this senior so wound up playing the forward tees and having shorter clubs into greens, that was kind of enjoyable. On the other hand, I wasn’t hitting anything close so those big greens took their toll in three putts. Had a nice day even with that and the course was busy.
Course conditions and driving range net.
The course was in good shape despite all the rain. I am happy to see that you finally put up nets for the driving range. Great place to practice and socialize.
Dobson Ranch is in fabulous condition
Dobson Ranch is in fabulous condition. My playing partners said they'd never seen it in such great condition. Other than a few puddles on the sides of a few fairways from the storms last week, it was gorgeous.
Slow play!!!’
I haven’t played this course in over 49 years. The cost has gone up of course but it’s commensurate with other similar courses around Phoenix. Not a big fan of the non-Mesa resident penalty. The pace of play was horrendous for mid-morning on Monday. Almost 5 hrs. Course conditions were average. I like how they’re adding features like the fancy driving range, putt-putt course and the food truck right near the driving range.
