Too much hype…
Not sure why YouTube people or ‘pros’ think this place is worth the time or money. Glorified Kokopelli…which is awful as well. That’s it…that’s the review.
Overall good condition
I have been here a few times in the last month. Both for the practice facilities and the golf. ⛳️
The course is in decent shape for this time of year. The greens have been pretty solid. So, overall.. worth the time and money for a good course in decent July shape.
Dobson Ranch Golf
Course in good shape, Starter held us up on #1 too long group in front of us were on green before we teed off. This is a par 5. On second hole ranger told us to keep up with group in front. We did not complain but probably should have. No problems after that. One thing we all noticed was lack of ball cleaners, with the storms that came through balls collected some mud. Other than that I will go back. Good practice facility.
Dobson Ranch
The best thing I liked about this cause is the politeness, friendliness and professional attitude of all the staff members I encountered right from pro shop to cart rental as well as the starter. Course was fun to play, Fairways could be a little better Greensboro in good shape, fortunately didn’t have to deal with sand traps much, but they did look some hard and not so sandy. Would definitely come back and play again when I am in Arizona next time.
Extremely disappointed
I've been playing this course for 25 years...worst condition I've ever seen it. Grass on most of the course is very patchy and lots of bare dirt.
Better deals out there
Course was really beat up fairways had hardly any playable grass is most spots. Greens were ok probably need a good rollout. All things considered better deals out there for same price or less.
Bad conditions
I love Dobson Ranch and have played there for many years. They have a great range and practice facility. But I’m not going to play a round of golf there for probably another month or so. The course conditions are pretty bad. Honestly, the City of Mesa needs to get their act together and give more water to the course so it’s not a frikin Dog Track.
Fairways not good
As usual the workers were great, cart girl was around enough times but the fairways were a little disappointing. With the heat at 110, fairly slow players in front of us it got a little tiring being in the fairway but having to hit off of hard dirt and ground. Never thought I would say this but the fairways at Kokopelli were in better shape than Dobson's fairways. But with the price this would be my only real complaint.
Best Value and Course Condition for Summer
for time of year greens very good,, fringe good but many with aeration marks, faiirways good in most areas. Beverage cart on both nines unlike many other courses during the week. Excellent staff.
Good vibes, course need TLc
I’ve heard great things about this place. The goods: atmosphere, laid back, friendly, loved the driving range with bar stools and Adirondack chairs. Great for the heat.
Bad: pace of play. The starter had to leave to go get the group in front of us that were 8 minutes late to their tee time and still let them tee off ahead of us. The course is in rough shape especially near the greens and the tee boxes. The greens were inconsistent. Most were very slow and bumpy.
Overall a good time and very forgiving.
"Robbery Ranch"
I've been playing this course for over 20 years, and each year during the summer the conditions somehow get worse. I keep praying that the management of this course get their heads out of their...
At least 50% of the fairways are dirt. If you play the ball down and hit the majority of the fairways on the par 4s and 5s, you better bring three or four towels so that you can clean all the mud off your irons and woods after the fact. The sheer neglect that this course has had to endure at the hands of the guys who are tasked with maintaining course conditions is shameful.
I noticed on their website, they hype this course up as one of the best munis with the best conditions in the state. LIES!!! This course USED to be a gem, but after the city relinquished management to the other crew, the course that I used to love to play has turned into the most pathetic shell of itself anyone could imagine.
The hardcore loyalists who play this "course" regularly will defend it, but anyone who has played courses like Aguila or Papago will be left dumbfounded after spending around the same amount to play this dog track. It's very strange how other legendary courses can maintain grass in their fairways. Maybe Dobson ranch isn't so legendary after all. I have advice for the the people wanting to play this course who never have in the past...DON'T! For the geniuses who manage this course, I suggest you do the hard things to get this course back to it legendary state, because what you're doing (or not doing) to this course is a shame and travesty. Try to forget about profits and think about your legacy while you still have one.
Ranger was excessive
I booked a 4 some early Friday morning, everything was great until the 2nd hole when the ranger on staff was overly dramatic about pace. Our group was on time for tee time and playing another group of 4. As soon as they would clear the fairway we would hit. The ranger literally stayed on our hip from hole 2 through hole 10 talking to us about playing ready golf when there was literally no one behind our group. We had one restroom stop and he immediately came over and said we should be hitting meanwhile our buddy is using the restroom, mind you again there was no behind us and could still see the group ahead of us. He ruined our experience and most likely won’t return as we felt he was picking on our group majority of our time there.
July 26
Course is in terrible shape. Greens very bad, general grass on the course was sparse at best. Seldom had good grass to hit from in the fairway. There was better patches in the rough. So sad for this once great course.
Couldn't Play
Although I received an email confirming my reservation, when we got to the course they did not have our reservation. In fact there was a tournament. I hope I don't get charged for this.
It's unfortunate, because we do like playing this course.
Conditions
Good value for summertime but the course is in rough shape..
