Southern Ridge Golf Club
About
Southern Ridge Golf Club, formerly known as Bougainvillea Golf Club, offers some of the most stunning views anywhere in the valley. The South and Estrella Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop to the golf course. Southern Ridge is known for more than its views though, it has a unique layout that combines six par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s. The championship course plays to 6,751 yards. It offers a good amount of length for long hitters but it is still player-friendly enough for beginners thanks to generous fairways and large, undulating greens. Although the fairways are wide, don't be lulled into a sense of security. They are flanked with more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are enough challenges for an interesting round but it's not an overly difficult golf course.

Good for the Price
The fairways are good, but the rough is either extremely rough or dirt/gravel. If you want an inexpensive course this is a good value for what you have to pay. The course is not crowded. I went on a Thursday afternoon and it was wide open.
Wonderful Golf Experience!
Unique course which has 6 Par 3's, 6 par 4's and 6 par 5's! Course is in excellent shape. Beautiful scenery and no desert terrain difficulties. Sandy and Martin were just wonderful!
overall experience
Martin is a people person he makes you feel that you are appreciated
Needs work
Seemed like a nice course. Needs lots of work and course manager was a total jerk! Guy in clubhouse was awesome though!!
Oversees golf
The course was very wet as they are trying to get the rye to grow. Back side was dryer and grass was shorter in the fairways and greens. It is that time of year for golf in Phoenix.
Post Overseed
Like most courses the first week of coming out of overseeing hampers play a bit. I do think in about another week when the new grass get cut a little closer the course would be prime.
Fair Course Conditions
Some of the sand traps were half filled with grass. Other sand traps were very hard. Fair golf course.
This course is a good mixture of long holes & long par 3's
Course was fun & played good even after a monsoon storm. Friendly staff & had reasonable rates. Would love to play the course when in good shape & dried out.
course conditions
The course had a lot of dry cut grass that affected play. Sand bunkers were like concrete. They needed to be maintained. Greens were yellow.
the course has good features
i really enjoyed playing with my son just the two of us
Poor Fairways
The staff were friendly, but the course needs a lot of work on it, this is the worst course i have played on in Phoenix. lots of bare patches, mud and staying water on the fairways, the greens were good
bogeyfree
Wide, forgiving fairways gives the casual to intermediate golfers confidence. Greens are in good to excellent condition. I used to play here a lot about 5 years ago, played here for the first time in 3.5 years and now I remember why I keep coming back.
On the minus side, the off-fairway grounds probably need a little filling in with grass or some vegetation.
Enjoyable Day
This course is wide open, had 7:30 tee time and were the only one on the course. Greens in excellent shape, fairways have some bare spots and over watering in others, but it is nice to have greens that hold you shot and putt true. This time of year you will not beat the price. Snack bar closed on Monday and Wednesday if that is a priority for you. Great Day.
practice course
This course is a great practice course, and great for beginners, to moderate golfer's. the fairways are big, has plenty of sand in the bunkers, and has only 1 water hole on the 9th. this course has 6 par 3's 6 par 4's and 6 par 5's, so you have plenty of chances to use 3 woods along with sharping your short game. the price for a round of golf is always the cheapest in Phoenix..
Not what I was told
Ok so what would you expect out here but man this was a rough course although whoever is maintaining the greens should be awarded a medal, when we played the greens were insanely true, smooth and just fun however the rest of the course is forgettable, tee boxes bad, fairway is akin to shaggy patchy carpet, very strange
, and the round took over 4 1/2 hours,
Course has clear fairways and clean.
I have played this course several times and always enjoy the area. It presents enough of a challenge to be interesting but not so difficult to be trouble.
I will always play this course for the value.
Course was great
I've played here many times. Looks like they are upgrading. Course was in great shape for this time of the year. Can't beat the price. Staff is very pleasant. It's too bad more people don't take advantage of this course. I played first off. Done in 21/2 hours. Looks like they've upgrades bunkers. Greens somewhat slow. But great deal for price.
Southern Ridge Golf Club
My first impression was that new owners have taken over; as it appeared things were not in order at check-in. The front entrance had no curb appeal and if I had not booked on Golfnow, I may have golfed at another location. The fairways were wet and muddy. The maintenance workers were out on the beginning holes and too many water sprinklers on and there were no ball-washers - this was a bit annoying. Overall, the conditions of the course was poor.
When it is all said and done, I did like the layout and although my tee-time was 7am, I was able to start at 6:30am. I enjoyed the price being just right for a quick round. I would most-likely attend this Golf Club again but not anytime soon - as there are too many courses in the area with similar pricing and great mountain views to golf.
Southern Ridge
I liked the layout, but the overall condition of the course was poor. The maintenance of the grass was below average at best. The worst part was the surrounding/rough and fairway bunkers. Put a little money into this place, and it could be a great course. with some great mountain views.
