Southern Ridge Golf Club
About
Southern Ridge Golf Club, formerly known as Bougainvillea Golf Club, offers some of the most stunning views anywhere in the valley. The South and Estrella Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop to the golf course. Southern Ridge is known for more than its views though, it has a unique layout that combines six par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s. The championship course plays to 6,751 yards. It offers a good amount of length for long hitters but it is still player-friendly enough for beginners thanks to generous fairways and large, undulating greens. Although the fairways are wide, don't be lulled into a sense of security. They are flanked with more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are enough challenges for an interesting round but it's not an overly difficult golf course.

Worth the drive over from east Mesa
We needed two tee times and the pro shop worked it so we could go one after the other which was very accommodating. Beverage price was awesome, lunch was delicious and included in the green fee. Greens were in great shape and interesting. Would go there again.
decent value a little boring
We search for good courses around valley as we are retired and just like to play around. This course staff was friendly. The course was is decent shape and had the par threes and par fives giving birdie opportunities you need. However it was just a little flat and had a bunch of trees and burn't out houses along the fairways. It looked like the mortgage companies must have foreclosed on a few homes along the course as the economy in the area is still in recovery mode.
niice course
This was a ok course. It was our last round of the week and for 38.00 (including lunch) it was ok..Greens and fairways were in good shape and pace of play was excellent.(3 3/4 hrs) The only complaint I had was there was way too much sand in the fairway traps. If you are looking for a fancy upscale course don't come here but if you want a no frills round this is the place. We even got to hand feed a roadrunner.Pretty neat.
Southern Ridge - unique format
Unique format (6-of each, par 3s, 4s and 5s) makes for an interesting change. Well worth the cost even without the free lunch thrown in.
Great Value.
Had a very pleasant day at Southern Ridge. course is rounding into shape and plays very fairly. Love the 6-6-6 set up. Lunch combo is great. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
Dan Rosler
Good round of golf. Play was slow, had to wait for every shot. Good value for money spent. Will play again for sure.
Good course for the money
Played this course many years ago as "The Cottonfields" and it has been vastly improved. Feels like a Municipal Course with wide fairways and some bare spots but overall it was fun. Biggest drawback was the crowding on the course. We played behind a men's club and they were slow. At one point I counted 9 players on a green opposite of where we were with kids in tow. I'd go back for a lazy day game again but it would have to be a lazy day cause we waited on nearly every hole.
A course with potential
My husband and I are in Scottsdale for the month of Feb. We like playing courses all over Phoenix. This looked like an 18 hole bargain. People were friendly and we even got to tee off early. The grass in the fairways and around the green were in clumps from mowing. It was like playing in the rough most of the time. The greens are in poor shape. I still feel with some care this course has potential.
Patchy
Course was in good shape. But greens and fairways and rough had patchy spots on them. Like they mowed during a frost. But over all in good conditions Pace of play good. Over all 3.5 out of 5.
Interesting
This course is trying to come back to a place it once was. The conditions are fair at best, the greens roll pretty true, but are a little slow. The fairways are ok at best right now, miss the fairway and just be ready for a bad lie. If you just want to get out and play with out having to take out a small loan for green fees and range balls, with a we're happy you came out to play atmosphere this is the place! Just don't have high expectations on course conditions!
last resort
golf club needs help. nice layout but that's all. no ball washers
tee markers incorrect. poor fairways. slow play nothing close to golfnow review. will never go back
Good value
You do get what you pay for. Saying that, this is good value for the relatively inexpensive green fees you have to pay. Off the fairway there is a lot of dirt, but so what, as long as the fairways are ok who cares. The greens were in good shape, moderately quick, and very consistent throughout. Bunkers were very good and consistent.
The greens are that fast and
Looking forward to playing again every time I go we always enjoyed our round would recommend this course to any golfer who has an appreciation for the outdoors
Good course bad location
I like this course. The unique layout of 6 par 3s, 6 par 4s and 6 par 5s is interesting. My only drawback to this course is the location leaves a lot be desired down in Laveen.
has had some improvements
sort of rustic course that doesn't cost too much to play and you still have to hit good shots and chip and putt, the bunkers have had significant improvement, the greens do putt pretty well
greens better than i thought
I was hesitant at first knowing conditions from before. but for the price the greens and bunkers is where they put their time and money. For the price and you just want to hit the ball, better than I thought.
Work in Progress
Tee boxes could use sand bottles, to fix divots. Greens are fast and small. Fairways are good. Could use ball washers on course. Interesting course. Plays fast. The staff are friendly.
Great course for you and your friends to getaway.
Nice course, new owner made some great improvements to the course and and the bunkers. Landscaped well a hidden gem in Laveen.
Very playable and good value
Driving range needs some improvement but course layout and conditions were fine. Walkable.
Fair Value
The course was in better shape, however the greens weren't in the best shape. They should consider reinstating the golf and lunch special or a free bucket of range balls to help improve the value at their course.
