Southern Ridge Golf Club
About
Southern Ridge Golf Club, formerly known as Bougainvillea Golf Club, offers some of the most stunning views anywhere in the valley. The South and Estrella Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop to the golf course. Southern Ridge is known for more than its views though, it has a unique layout that combines six par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s. The championship course plays to 6,751 yards. It offers a good amount of length for long hitters but it is still player-friendly enough for beginners thanks to generous fairways and large, undulating greens. Although the fairways are wide, don't be lulled into a sense of security. They are flanked with more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are enough challenges for an interesting round but it's not an overly difficult golf course.

Great value and if you stay in play conditions are fine
Course was fine, has great potential, very good value for the price.
On the Verge
I felt like a lot of things were almost great. There was a great view but it was obstructed by power lines. The fairways and greens were nice and maintained but the grass ended quickly as you got off the fairway. I could not argue with the deal we got though: $25 for 18 holes with a free meal included.
Enjoyable to play!
The greens were great. Very consistent and ball rolled true.
Fairways were a little dry but I feel they will get better with time. Thanks for the lunch!

Improving
Lots of areas of standing water due to overwatering. Greens are in very nice shape, fairways are good except in overwatered areas. Bunkers are a problem - need attention.
not in very good condition
course had a lot of weeds on edges of fairways. fairways were ok. greens were good. would not recommend this course . The last time I played it the course was in much better shape. lack of attention to the course.
Great Potential
Southern Ridge is the old Bouganvilla and it is coming back. The staff are super and they are doing as much as they can, as fast as they can to upgrade this course. Greens are great, fairways too. There is an area of dirt on the perimeter of the course up against the housing areas. It will be great when this is seeded and maintained.
I like the 6 of par 3's, 4's, and 5's.
The greens are in great shape. The fairways could use some water in some areas where the lies are not that great. Having 6 par 5's should allow for some nice eagle chances and birdies. The course is laid out nicely and has some challenging holes.
The driving range, well, I have not seen worse...haha.
Good value.
The course was in overall nice shape within the main playing areas from tee to green. The area outside the fairways was a little bare. Greens in good shape. Good value for the cost to play the course.
Course is much improved over last year due to new ownership
Played this course last year and felt that it was not maintained very well. Hesitated about playing again this year, but spoke to someone who had played the course and said that it was in good shape. Tee off areas , fairways and greens are in good shape. Best to try and stay on fairways as rough needs some work. Overall pleasantly surprised and enjoyed our game. Course is flat and easy to play. Well worth trying.
Great greens, unkempt rough and fairways
My wife and I have played this course many times. The thing that keeps drawing us back is the format. 6 par 5s. 6 par 4s and 6 par 3s. Also, the greens are fast, challenging and roll very true.
The staff is always very friendly and helpful, including the snack bar workers and cart girls.
That being said, the course is very much in need of better greenskeeping. The fairways are mottled with weeds and scrubby areas and the rough is simply residential field scrap. Dirt, weeds, huge holes in the ground, trash etc. This course needs a make-over
enjoyable course that is fun to play
one off the best values for your golf dollar in Phoenix. A lot of courses are so difficult you aren't enjoying yourself but not this course.
.If you can get it for les than 25 it's a fair price.
Course under repair! Not too bad shape. Excessive water issues. Came in the morning, staff very nice. Got on right away and played at a good pace. Will go again.
Nice challenging course for a fair price.
Course was in pretty good shape for the amount of play it recieves.
New management is attempting to spruce up the course that was just recently reopened.
Was a great course for the cost when called Bougainvillea. It closed and new management is trying to improve overall course playability. Fairways and greens are in very good shape considering.
Under new Mgnt = great value
This course is under new mgnt. They took over Summer of 2012, and re-opened the course Oct 2012. You can see the work they have done so far. They are still making improvements but is a 6/6/6 course which I have not played yet. I took my Dad here while he visited from DC, and he has played many gorgeous high-profile courses and he really enjoyed this course. Lush green and wide fairways, low rough, and fast greens made for a fun day of golf.
A great course for new golfers for there are no carries to worry about. I'll definitely be back!
It will take a while for new ownwership to catch up
Course overall layout is bad. Back to back par 3's led to being stacked up four deep on tees. Mens club having closest to the pin contest didn't help matters. Some bunkers had sand, some nothing but dirt. Carts should be equipped with rakes as most bunkers with sand had no rakes. I wouldn't recommend it at this point in time.
It's a process
They recently bought this course from the previous owner and the course was in terrible condition. They are putting a lot of effort into making it better. It's just not quite there yet.
