Southern Ridge Golf Club
About
Southern Ridge Golf Club, formerly known as Bougainvillea Golf Club, offers some of the most stunning views anywhere in the valley. The South and Estrella Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop to the golf course. Southern Ridge is known for more than its views though, it has a unique layout that combines six par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s. The championship course plays to 6,751 yards. It offers a good amount of length for long hitters but it is still player-friendly enough for beginners thanks to generous fairways and large, undulating greens. Although the fairways are wide, don't be lulled into a sense of security. They are flanked with more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are enough challenges for an interesting round but it's not an overly difficult golf course.

Cheap, needs lot of work
If money saved is the objective, go ahead and play here. If, however, you want nice fairways, smooth rolling greens, sand traps you can play out of, and fairway rough that isn't a cow pasture, look elsewhere. The driving range is almost unusable, just weeds, high grass, lumps, and it's all brown. The greens are almost unputtable. Since the new owners have taken over, the only thing I saw that was an improvement from the past was that most of the fairways had green grass, but if you miss the fairway, there is no rough; it's just weeds, rocks, with lots of holes and junk around. If the owners want to make this a preferred destination, they have a lot of work to do.
course looking better this year
Was called Bougainvillea course last year. But new ownership (I guess) with all brand new carts and super friendly staff make this open wide mostly flat course a very good choice. Greens are impecable although some bunkers are still in upgrade mode most are quite good. A few wet/muddy spots here and there and the red tees listed 178 yds on scorecard instead of 118 as my gps correctly noted. The play was reversed back nine now front nine and we played the course in 3hrs 20 mins on this day. Only water is on 18th hole but off to left side so I didn't loose any golf balls (and that's good).
I will definately return as I can see many improvements being made by caring staff.
GREAT DEAL FOR THE MONEY.
GREAT DEAL FOR THE MONEY. NEW STAFF IS HAVING A PROBLEM GETTING PLAYERS OUT THERE. MAYBE SOME KIND OF COUPON DEAL WOULD ATTRACT MORE PLAYERS.
Needs some attention in some areas
Fairways not very well marked for yardage. Sand traps and greens were not bad. Its not a flat course, more of rolling fairways. It appears to be under new managment or ownership and apparently some improvements are taking place from what we were told by a local golfer.
The course needs work.
Grass was scattered, dirt all over the place, and the course was extremely backed up. Took us five hours to finish 18 holes. It comes with a free lunch, which was the only plus for us.
Too much water
The course is great but, they really flooded the heck out of it and it was muddy. The starter was great, but the guy ( golf ranger) was a little annoying saw him 3 times in 18 holes, checking the rate of play and making sure you do not drive where you shouldn't or play to slow. I will play this course again for the money $$$ 25.00 bucks and hoping there's less water and mud. Played +11 for the round.
What a Deal.
Had a great time at Southern Ridge! $25 for 18 holes with a golf cart was a great deal. The pace of play was right around 4hours and the staff is super friendly.
Looking forward to playing again soon!
The course is playable but except for the greens that were reasonably nice the rest left to be desired
Lack of ball washers. The course changed name and was difficult to find via gps. The greens were reasonably good the rest needed attention. The staff stopped their machines when teeing up, that was great.
The course was in better shape when it was Boubainvilla
We received an email inviting us to come out and enjoy the new and improved course ,I called and spoke with someone about the condition of the course. The person didn't give me their name , but went on to say that the new and improved Southern Ridge had several million dollars in improvements. Our game started started at 9:45 AM . We arrived at 8:45 to warm up , but the driving range was nothing more than dirt field that had trash stored on it. May be they put that out there for targets .
They did have a very good practice chipping , and putting green .
The only improvements we could see was that they had put new sand in the traps. The course has very little to no yardage markers on the tee boxes, or the fairways.
The greens were very good, but are now smaller.
Not perfect, but very playable.
Greens putted and rolled well. The overall condition obviously took a hit with the closeure, etc. But on the improve. As long as the green are good, I can work through a few rough spots along the way.
Seeing continuous weekly improvements
Have seen a continous improvement of course with new owner. Drainage problems and standing water biggest challenge. Big improvement in sand traps and greens. Would like to see rangers enforce rules and golf etiquette more strictly
Great Course for Value!
This is a Great Course for the value! I recommend Southern Ridge Golf Course to all golfers whether you just started playing golf or have been playing for 20+ years. The staff is experienced and friendly, the greens are in good condition & the beer is always cold at a great price.
Look out for Hole #13 the "Eliminator" which could change your great round to an average round.
Other reviews are unfair
I was worried about playing this course with all the bad reviews but honestly they need to have a reality check. For $20 this was not bad. The course was extremely green! which was unexpected and well maintained. There were some standing water issues but mostly on the cart paths. Considering these people just bought the course, they should be aplauded! Another review claimed there were no ball washers or water available on the course - this is FALSE! The course has both. It's not the best course on the planet but it has nice wide fairways and is a great place to practice.
Greens lowered and in great shape!!!!!
I played the course just after they opened on October 13th. Though I saw improvments it still needed some work. I just played on November 11th and amazing what has been done. Greens in good shape. What a great value. I highly recommend this course.
Great improvement!!!
I played this course on 11/11/12 and it was a huge improvement from last time I played about a year ago. New ownership, they are really taken care of the fairways, the greens were in great shape and its only going to get better. The staff was very friendly and all well priced....
I was pleasantly surprised on the condition of the greens.
I heard the course had re-opened and I looked on Golf Now for a tee time. I found a Hot Deal for $13.00 and I figured if the course was not in good shape, I was not out of a lot of money. I found the driving range needs a lot of work. The fairways were not in terrible shape and I was pleasantly surprised on the condition of the greens. I teed off at 1000 am and I was finished at 1230 pm. I will probably play there next Friday.
attempt to refresh the course front nine flipped to back ill a work in progress.
Course flipped but still has the same play attension should be paid to the edges on the more barren fairways, ie. trees.
good layout
Nice to see new staff improving the course daily, tee boxes, fairways and greens, do need 150 yard markers, ball washers and signage, but it all can't happen overnight....good improvements
the course itself is not bad. Very straight layout.
they must have had irrigation issues because there was standing water EVERWHERE.
The course needs better yardage markers
I would play it again even though it was just newly opened
