Southern Ridge Golf Club
About
Southern Ridge Golf Club, formerly known as Bougainvillea Golf Club, offers some of the most stunning views anywhere in the valley. The South and Estrella Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop to the golf course. Southern Ridge is known for more than its views though, it has a unique layout that combines six par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s. The championship course plays to 6,751 yards. It offers a good amount of length for long hitters but it is still player-friendly enough for beginners thanks to generous fairways and large, undulating greens. Although the fairways are wide, don't be lulled into a sense of security. They are flanked with more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are enough challenges for an interesting round but it's not an overly difficult golf course.

This course is boring and poorly maintained
The course is a flat, featurless and repetative. The fairways are poorly maintained and dotted with gofer holes. Each hole is straight and flat. Off the fairways is plain dirt. When I say "dirt", I do not mean desert. I mean plain dirt devoid of vegetation. When I played, all the water coolers and ball washers had no water in them. With no water on the course and no beverage cart, this was not a pleasant Arizona golf experience. There are no "views of the Estrella Mountains". The only view is of the backs of track homes that surround almost every hole and Southern Avenue that runs along the north side of the property. I would not play this course again even for free. By far, this is the worst course that I have ever played.
Getting there
I play golf every weekend and was invited to come to Southern Ridge by a friend. The course was not in the best of shape, but you can see they are doing everything they can to correct that. I think that by December this course will be in good shape. The new owners are doing everything they can to make it look good and the staff is wonderful. I highly recommend eating at their little restaurant, best food I have ever had at a golf course before!
I have golfed there 4 times now and each time it seems to be getting better. I will golf there at least 4 more times over this next month because I believe Southern Ridge is going to do everything they can to keep improving. If you talk to one of the staff and tell them something about their course, they actually listen to you, sometimes make notes and then they do what they can to correct it. You don't get that from many courses around here that I know of. I am a 12 handicap golfer and within 2 years I bet Southern Ridge Golf Course will be one of the best in the Laveen area.
THIS PLACE IS A DUMP!!!
This dump they try to call a golf course has got to be THE WORST course that I have ever played!!! If it wasn't $18 after tax I would be upset. I would never ever think about playing this dump again!! Absoloutly the worst course ever!! I think that says it all.
Pace is quick because nobody seemed to be playing there.
Some of the greens are in good shape, which I liked because of overseeding in the Valley. But other greens were a mess and that seemed to affect the placement of the pins. Bunkers were in disrepair on a few holes. Marked as Ground Under Repair. Finally, yardage markers were non-existant, making it difficult to get a good yardage. Staff in the snack bar was very nice.
Good conditions, slow play tho
Course was in good conditions, but it took 3 1/2 hours to play the front nine. So it was tough to stay in a groove when I had to wait 10 minutes on the foursomes in front to hit.
Different name, same old goat track.
Southern Ridge is the new name for the old " Bouganvillea" course. Unfortunately, new ownership has yet to bring any new changes to the course. The conditions are still very poor. Most greeens still have burn out, even in the middle of overseed. The bunkers are slowly being worked on, but are still just nasty, muddy dirt. The layout of 6 each par 3,4, 5's is definitely unique, although uninspired and generally flat hole designs do it no help. This is the lowest price course in the Valley for sure and you get what you pay for.
Work In Progress
You can see the work new ownership is putting into the course.
While there are still things that need to be done from an asthetic standpoint the course plays well.
It will be better than before
The was just over seeded so the greens were slow., but they are going to start cutting them down starting 10/20/12. The one thing that didn't make sense was changing the 9's. Before you could watch people finishing from the club house which would help out the restaurant, especially in tournaments and seeing the 1st Tee from the club house would help the starters .Plus if your starting from the original 1st tee you could putt until you're up and not have all the carts backed up.
Very good value.....priced exceptionally well.
The course just opened after over-seeding and the fairways were certainly scruffy but playable. The greens were slow but it could be seen that they will improve as the season progresses and maturity occurs. I liked it because they priced it very attractively and everyone was super friendly and helpful.
this course i think will/can be good
The 6/6/6 layout I think is different and good. The course need some attention definitely as I had to scrap the mud off my shoes at every hole as the grass was only on the greens and some of the fairways had none in places. Other then that I think it could be a pretty good course
Played yesterday for the first time. It's obvious that a lot of work has gone into the clubhouse and restaurant and it's very nice, light and clean. The staff was exceptional. The course is in the process of being restored and I believe in a week or so the fairways and greens will be in very good shape. I was told the bunkers are being worked on, so that should improve soon, too. The green fees are excellent. Looks like a course with a future.
great layout needs lots of work on fairways and ruff. nice new sand in bunkers. most greens are in good shape some need attention.
Not bad for $30 including lunch. New carts are nice. If they continue to make up grades to airways and rough it
Work in process
The staff was very friendly and helped us with scheduling issue. There is a lot of mud and water on the golf cart paths, which you must stay on due to mover seeding which I understand, but something needs to be done about drainage. There also seemed to be lot weeds in the fairways. I think I will wait awhile before I return to play. Best thing was the price.
Unusual design with 6 Par 5's,6 Par 4's and 6 par 3's
Played this course the first day after overseeding. Improvements to the bunkers are still in progress. Waiting one or two more weeks before opening would have the conditions better.
Poor
Staff was awesome,, HOWEVER, course is in poor condition regardless of seeding time. Absolutely no yardage markers to be found anywhere on the course, none, anywhere, as in NO YARDAGE MARKERS, not on sprinklers heads, nothing. No drinking water available on the course, be prepared to pay $1.50+ for drinking water at the turn. If you're from out of town, good luck finding the place, all signs state it's Bougainvillea GC. Good luck, I'll not be going back to a 1 star gc.

Sorry to hear you feel this way. I thought the course was in great shape. This is a Steve Dallas property and the condition is 100 times better than where it was. Please call the golf shop and we would love to hear what was wrong with the course so we can improve areas we may be missing.
