Grand Canyon University Golf Course
About
Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.
The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.
The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

Great again
Course is in super nice condition. Very friendly staff.
Nice Course
Enjoyed playing this course for the first time. I will be back. Nice layout and greens are very nice.
Solid course
Course is well maintained and laid out well. It is pretty flat. The greens are firm as are the fairways. Normal desert golf conditions.
Pace of play was acceptable. We finished our round in less than 4 hours with a threesome, Group ahead had a foursome for the front nine and held us up somewhat. For the back nine, one of their group peeled off and the pace picked up significantly.
Not up to par for college course
The course needs more variety. All the holes are pretty straight with bunkers in front of the greens. There's not much grass in the fairways. it's overpriced for the condition of the course.
A great disappointment
I have been playing this course since it was redone. Up to today I was impressed and never failed to bring out of town guest to this course for a great day of golf. It WAS, a well taken care of course and a joy to play. Not so much now.
First I was disappointed that the students that greet you when you drive up refused to assist in getting clubs onto the golf cart and direct you to the pro shop for check in. Then the driving range was packed with GCU students and there was no room to hit balls before the round. The putting green also had GCU girls golf team practicing and basically made us feel that we were infringe on their practice session with their Coach.
The 8 minute start times is too close to give you a pleasant round without waiting. We waited on "every" tee. But the most frustrating was the condition of the course. I can only describe it as a mess. Dried out, bare spots all around. Unkept bunkers, no sand. Just in poor shape. The cups were shabby and needed changing, all edges were shaggy and worn. You could not remove the flag sick for putting, it was frozen in the cup. Over all I will avoid this course. What a disappointment. GCU needs a manager that will bring it back into shape like it was once before.
Grand Canyon golf course
Grand Canyon golf course Bang for your buck not the best course. Teal green good shape. The grass around the greens very hard. Not worth $59
I would wait a while
This is a great layout with great greens and decent bunkers. However the course overall is not in good shape. They water way too much. There was standing water all over the course. The fairways are about 50% rye grass and 20% dormant burmuda and 30% no grass/dirt/mud.
No real rough to speak of as the dormant burmuda is what they use for rough. I and a plus handicap and if you don't like tight muddy lies I would wait to it heats up here in Phx and the burmuda comes back in. I would say mid June i should be good.
This place was unbelievably great last summer/Fall before over sedding. Thats when all of the burmida grass was in. This is a summer/fall course not a winter/spring course here. Much better options right now as conditions at most places are perfect here in Phx at the monent
Great Spring golf
Perfect for a 7am tee time for my twosome. No one in front of us, and no pressure from behind.
Course can be a bit short from the whites, with several 300-320 yard par 4s, but there are trees, doglegs and A LOT of sand to challenge.
All in all, a good test, and would be a much different course from the tips.
Great greens
Some of the best greens in the Valley. Smooth and fast!
