Grand Canyon University Golf Course

Overall course was in solid consisting. Tees, fairways, sand, and greens all in proper condition. Rough was a bit out of place but format Bermuda so you get what you get. Some of the truest greens in the valley and bunkers are some of the most challenging anywhere in AZ. Solid course for the price.

They layout and prevailing wind require you work the ball both ways. Off the tee and on the approach. Favorable to big hitters with water hazards and outer boundaries being the only hazards off the tee. Greens roll out, but are receptive to well hit shots. Played here twice, had a great time, both times.

The pace of play can get a little slow. Be prepared to wait a bit on 8 and 13 tee. Both are par 3s over water and the 13th typically has two groups waiting at the tee when I finish 12.

Pros: large greens with challenging undulations. Walkable. No blind shots. Decent bunkers.

Cons: some fairways and most of the rough were not in great shape, but this may be due to time of year with Bermuda not kicking in its growth yet. There is not a GPS system in the carts. We waited on every shot, and finished the round in 4 1/2 hours.

For the price, there are much better courses in the area.

We were almost hit several times in 9 holes and opted to abort our round at the turn due to the slow play and layout. We followed a group of 4 that was taking forever to play and a group of 5 was behind us. There was no ranger or course assistance to help with the pace. The layout is simply dangerous when some big hitters are out playing. Would not recommend at any price.

The problem with Grand Canyon University golf course is the college team plays there and they also have mini tour events. Every time I play there it’s always very slow. The surrounding areas of the green and rough are very dry or dirt.

Most golf courses that have Rangers do not use them to speed play. I have played 2 times @ GC and both times they had Rangers that did do that. Yesterday we played in under 4 hours on a very busy day.

Tee to great the course was in good shape. Wish the rangers would have prodded the slow players to pick up the pace

The course is in pretty good shape, the greens excellent. If you don’t mind a 4 1/2 to 5 hr round, it’s an ok option

Love the layout BUT every time I play it is such a long round of golf. You need to have 10 minute tee times versus 8, very difficult to get in a groove when you wait on every shot. This course is difficult for many people. Hole 8 always has several groups waiting, causing 9 and 10 to be very slow as well. I doubt I play again, just cannot handle nearly 5 hour rounds of golf.

Great course layout with excellent greens. Very challenging for the average player. Best Pastrami sandwich from very nice estaurant
