Rating 74.3

Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.

The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.

The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

Good Course, great service

The course was in good shape, but the best part was the cart girl Shakoda! She was friendly and helpful all day! If I could give her more than 5 stars I would!

Worth playing

The course layout is flat but interesting, Great walking course. Fairways, bunkers and greens were in excellent condition. The only complaint I have about the course conditions is the rough. It’s all dormant hard pan. The pace of play was very slow, five hours.

First time, sandtraps galore

20 handicap. First time playing GCU course. I read many reviews prior and I was aware of the plethora of sandtraps both fairway and around the greens, and this did hold true. However the traps had lots of sand and deep enough to play out of. Overall the staff were friendly. The driving range was well maintained. I played from the white tees. Overall I would say it was challenging but not impossible. I used all my clubs in the bag. Club selection off the tee is important due to all the fairway bunkers. Pace of play was good, only had to wait at a couple tee boxes for one group. Finished in 4 hours on Tuesday morning. For the price in February in Phoenix, it’s difficult to find a better value.

Nice course

My last day in the Phoenix area before heading home. Wanted to play something new. The Grand Canyon State golf course was nice. No long wait. Pace of play was nice. Long course from the black tees. Challenging. Greens were pure and FAST. I would definitely play again.

Best first course in Phoenix for Golfers who haven’t played in n 3 or 4 months

This is not a Phoenix desert course. And that is just fine for your golf trip 4some when you and your buddies haven’t played for months. This was our first round of the trip running to the course from the airport. Open layout alllows you to find your swing for the trip without being very penal on the scorecard. Layout was nice, greens rolled true, pace was great and price was right. Highly recommend when you need a confidence boost after getting crushed on a tougher desert course or as I said a first round on a golf trip to get you going.

Solid golf course

Excellent shape. Well bunkered with nice greens. The scenery may not be stunning but if you want to play a nice track without tapping the bank GCU deserves a trip

Punishing for average players

Course is set up for college players who will be pro’s soon. Average players are punished when you hit good shots. Bunkers everywhere and remember the average adult male only hits drives about 220 yards, and there are bunkers in those areas. Too hard. Greens were in good condition.

Great greens. Challenging layout

Not your typical desert course at all. Layout was fun and challenging. Greens rolled great (fast but great). Played in under 4 hours.
