Grand Canyon University Golf Course
About
Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.
The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.
The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

Great value & challenging
The team at Grand Canyon University has done an incredible job with this course! The fairways are in top notch shape and the greens even though they were recently sanded were in great shape. The layout is cool and the staff is very nice and friendly! Must play when you are in the area.
GCU
This was my second time playing the course and definitely am kicking myself in the butt for not going sooner. It gives you some of everything you need to be challenged it's in great shape the staff is great. It will be in my monthly rotation moving forward
Super califragilistic expialadoshis
Good times, great conditions, wonderful staff, best ice machine of any course, true roll greens
" LUSH "
Best course in town, been playing back when it was maryvale, classic course of PHX . Best ice machine this side of the Mississippi, do yourself a favor give it a shot before it gets jam packed with the winter visitors.
Great fun course
The course is fun and in great shape, the only reason I gave it 4 stars and not five stars was because the fairways and greens were aerated about 10 days to two weeks ago, they’re much better this week than they were last week, Putts roll true, and the fairways are coming back nicely. Just a challenging fun place to play.
Course condition
For this time of the year especially given the record high temps I found the course in excellent. Greens rolled well fairways lyes were good and ther rough was penal.
Can’t ask for more than that.!
Food pricing more that fair with really good quality!
Perfect Greens
Huge shout out to the greens keeper at Grand Canyon. Best greens I’ve played all year although sadly they are going to be punched on Monday.
Course in great shape although rough was US Open length and difficult to find ball even when you know where about it went.
Pleasantly surprised
Chose this course for the proximity to where I was staying. Was greeted very nicely by attendant at carts who gave me direction to clubhouse and loaded my clubs. Clubhouse staff were very friendly and welcoming. Course was in very good shape for the heat that has hit Phoenix in July. I was not expecting it to be so lush and green. Easy course to play, wide open and forgiving to a slicer like me. Would definitely play here again.
Surprised
The course is in surprisingly good condition, considering the heat. The greens were great, bunkers were in great shape(another surprise for Phx in Summer), and the fairways were the best I’ve seen in the area in weeks. The young lady in the pro shop was dealing with register//computer issues & handled it very well.
All in all, a great round.
WHAT A JOKE
This course is in great shape, especially for summer conditions. Greens are pure and carry good pace. The issue with this course is that management has completely destroyed the point of booking a morning tee time. We paid more money to play an early tee time to somewhat avoid the heat and play a quicker pace. Played the front 9 quick. THERE WERE 4 GROUPS AT 10. Selling tee times to start on hole 10 at 8am?!? What are you thinking!? We waited for 25 minutes on every tee box on the back 9. Unbelievable. I get making more money. But tee times to start on the back at 8?! Then we go in to get an explanation and what do they say? PLAY SLOWER. WE TELL PEOPLE TO PLAY SLOW. WHAT!?!?? Since when do golf courses want you to play SLOW when you are one of the first tee times on the sheet!?! Not to mention staff tried to get defensive and fight me because I should have “played slower” - i dont know how to play slower than a 3 hour back 9????? What a joke. Clown show. No point in paying extra for a morning tee time here. Zero.
Great for summer
I don’t expect much for summer course conditions so I was really pleased with condition of the greens. Some dry areas are to be expected and there weren’t very many.
A little disappointed that they don’t have any ball washing posts- is that faux pas for nice courses or something?
