About
Empire Ranch Golf Course, situated in the picturesque Carson Valley, features 27 holes of golf that overlook the Carson River. Located just minutes from downtown Carson City, Empire Ranch's three individual nines offer three different 18-hole combinations that have a convenient location but still provide a challenging golf getaway. The Comstock/River layout features lakes and wetlands coming into play throughout. The fairways are also well guarded by strategically placed bunkers. It provides a fair test, but the golf course is forgiving enough for beginning and intermediate players. In addition to the three courses, Empire Ranch also offers extensive practice facilities and a staff of PGA Professionals who can provide golf instruction.

Poor signage
The “directions “ provided provided by the starter were in short inaccurate. Several holes were under construction (reseeded) and it was difficult to find the next tee box. No yardage markers, gps was useless!

Very poor conditions right now
Here are some photos of the actual conditions of the course right now. Nothing at all like the course photos in GolfNow.
It's in terrible shape, the fairways are bare, the rough is full of some kind of clover that eats balls and the rough around the greens is very long too.
The reeds have grown so tall most of the tee shots are blind and you can hardly tell where the fairway or green are located.

Course fairways are in really bad shape
I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I feel others need to know before you make a tee time here. While the greens are in very nice shape, everything else, fairways, rough around the greens, signage directing you to the next hole (when there are forks in the path), are in terrible shape.
I don't know why, but save your money for now and play at a better managed course.
I hope they can fix the issues, as it really has potential to be a nice course, but they need to plow under the fairways and start over. They are mostly bare and just off the fairways are this weird clover like stuff that if your ball goes in there, you may never find it. If you do find it, it's almost impossible to hit out of.
Even the rough around the greens is so tall, you need a machete to get out of it.
Also, the reeds have gotten so tall, you can hardly tell where to hit your tee shot as you can't see the fairway or in some cases, the green or flag.
Pace of play was good as there weren't many folks out there.

Course Has Had Flood Damage
Due to the recent excessive and somewhat rapid snowmelt in the Sierras some of the flatlands in the valleys have experienced flooding and this course has had its share of flood damage and disruptions. Like to support them though by playing there but will wait for a few more weeks to see how there deal with the recovery.
Course layout has been convoluted due to the flooding.

Rough hidden gem.
This course is hidden away and based on my first round there, also less frequented by players than Eagle Valley down the highway.
Pace of play was great, hardly saw anyone else on the course.
The course is in rough shape right now, the excess water from the record snowfall winter has done a number to it. That being said, it's mostly fairway damage, both tee boxes and greens are in great shape as they're almost all elevated.

Flooded only front 9 open also flooded
The course has 27 holes it is flooded due to snow melt. Only front 9 open also flooded. No mention of this in golf now. I believe it will take a month or more for course to be playable. Greens are in very good shape.

Has Potential!
First time playing at Empire Range, although the course seems to be laid out pretty nicely, this day was over shadowed by only half the course being open due to flooding and so you have too replay the same 9 holes over again in order to get 18 holes, not fun! Plus, as we were getting ready to play the second round of nine holes, two other sets of players were in front of us and that would have taken too long to finish the second round so we just left and the 18 holes we actually paid for ended up only being nine! Would have been nice if Golf Now would have provided the heads up on this course when we booked it, Golf Now charged us a price for 18 holes making us think that we would be playing 18 different holes, but not the case when we got there! Golf Now needs to have better communication with there golf courses in order to be truly be transparent about what the conditions of a course you're looking to book an appointment, if I had known the conditions of Empire Ranch Golf Course a head of time I would have booked another course!

Course is "Recovering" from a flood.
I got to the course and was informed that only nine holes were open. Actually only 8 had playable fairways.
The ponds from the flood are quite deep and look like they have been there for some time (caked mud around the edges - no grass under the brown water). It is going to take a long time before this course is payable.

Sloppy greens
The greens were not very well taken care of and there was a lot of water on the course. I hit except the water, but the greens should’ve been in good condition, and they need more amenities and all the holes.

Friendly Staff
The course was in fair shape. It had some rough areas due to all the snow and rain this winter. Some of the fairways did not have grass yet and there were a lot of ground under repair areas. A few of the tees on the back nine were hard to find. They could use some more signage and maybe a map of where the tees were. It would be nice if they had some water coolers out on the course for hydration. The staff was very friendly and helpful

Great value and course
Staff very friendly.
Restaurant was down under remodel. ATM was off and cart girl was only taking cash this day due to card reader not working. But gentlemen in club house were able to help out and use card at the check in.

Promising
How much can you expect after the worst winter in 50 years? Some greens were decent, others bad. Some fairways dry, others had lakes. But I can see that this course has promise for when it recovers and I'll definitely be back to check it out in a month or so. The price was good considering the conditions.

The course has some worn down areas through the 18 holes. They have the price right for the conditions so I’ll play it again. Staff was great!,
