Local Favoritw
Lucky enough to live here. Conditions of greens and fairways are looking very good with Fall coming. Man O War is one of those courses that if you play it often will make you feel and perform five shots better at most courses. Unless you are a very heavy hitter the par 4 second shots will test you. The 5's are reachable in reg., Water comes into play at inconvenient times but that makes it fun. Slope from the whites is 130 and it shows. You can pay a lot more around Myrtle and get much less. Next door is The Wizard sister course.
Mystical Golf Package round 1/3
Fun course that doesn't play terribly long. Rough is kept rather short and very easy to play from. The challenging elements are there but are far enough away to be avoided easily with a little accuracy. This course like Man O War showed some signs of heavy play throughout the summer so the course did show some signs of wear in the fairways, rough, and greens.
British Isles Feel
From the Old-World, castle-style clubhouse to the links-like layout, The Wizard is completely unique in Myrtle Beach. So much fun to play!
Scottish Links in South Carolina
This course is a must-play for me every trip to MB because of how well it replicates the feel of a classic links course. The deep bunkers and dramatic elevation changes will definitely make you think your way around the course, but also help you become immersed in the old world golf experience. The castle-style clubhouse also helps with that!
Fun round
Had a blast here on a buddy trip! Will be sure to make it back here again
Classic course!
The Wizard is as fun as golf could be! I was in awe of the beautiful castle-style clubhouse. The entire course reminded me of some of the classic courses in Scotland or Ireland. Great experience overall!
Yes, The Wizard is Magical
Ok, i'll say it early, the Wizard is magical. One of the best courses I've played in the Myrtle area. Went with my buddies for a weekend trip, really glad to play this links style course. Didn't expect to find a links layout in the area, but boy what a gem. Great elevation changes to it as well, has to be the highlight. Course was in great shape, everyone is friendly, it's golf as it should be. Check it out!
Terrific twosome
Played this course along with The Witch and the helpful staff really enhanced the golf experience. Course was also a treat to play.
Well maintained course!
The course was well groomed tee to green! A few greens had issues with ball marks not being repaired properly, but that's not the courses fault. The design was fun to play especially the closing 3 holes. Compared to other courses I have played in MB, this one provides a great value and has a friendly staff. My only complain is they double tee on the course causing pace of play issues and my group was forced to wait on every shot on the back 9. This is the only reason I won't be back, but for those that are willing to play a 4.5-5hr round it's a great deal and nice course.
Fun Change of Pace in Myrtle
Having played a few times on "real" links courses overseas I'm always skeptical about any U.S. course that bills itself as having a linksy layout. However, I was really impressed by The Wizards and came away wanting to play it again next time I'm in town. One of my favorites in Myrtle Beach.
Highly recommended!
What a blast to play this intriguing golf course designed by Dan Maples. It's a taste of links-style golf in Myrtle Beach. We play it every year on our annual Myrtle Beach golf trip. The greens are always great as is the course maintenance. The last four holes are the best finish to a round on the Grand Strand. Enjoy the look of the cool sod-faced bunkers just like the UK courses. Love the look of the Scottish castle clubhouse. Well worth a visit to play!
Finally got to play some of the back nine
This is an excellent course. Obviously because of the great weather, it's been beat up a bit, but well worth the time to challenge it. My twosome had a 2:30 tee time, but they allowed a 4some who had already played 18 to play again in front of us, and that frustrated us to no end. We did the front nine in 2.5 hours, and by 6:45 had finished only 15 holes. We gave up in the darkness. I love this course, and will play it again.
good links style course
well maintained fairways and greens. challenging yet not impossible course. also got lunch and 2 drinks included in price of play.
would go back
good course, poor management
After our threesome hit our tee shots on the first tee, and were getting ready to drive away, the started interrupted us and dumped a random guy into our group without asking our opinion. This put a bad taste in our mouth. It's no big deal to have a person added to your group, but without asking, and after hitting our tee shots was poor form in my opinion. The course was in great condition, with the exception of the bunkers. The few that our group encountered were hard, and poorly groomed.
Wizard Not a Good Experience
Played 8/16/2013 (foursome). Staff extremely indifferent, almost rude. Course in mediocre shape, even allowing for heavy rain the day before. Will definitely NOT be back. Not a good golf experience.
Nice well kept course
I usuall make this course a regular stop when I am in the area. The staff is very nice and they have a well stocked Pro Shop. The restaurant is average at best. The course is always in immaculate condition. The layout/design can be a little mundane and easy depending on your ability. However the conditions of the overall course and the greens in particular are pristine. 16-18 are good finishing holes. 18 in particular into the wind will give you all you can handle. Well worth playing. Neat looking Castle style clubhouse.
Course is in pristine condition.
Middle of January and the course was in "Prime Time" shape. Course was in the best overall shape of the three courses we played. Fun to play, challenging but not overly difficult. Played 36 holes, enjoyed every one of them.
Not impressed.
This course was the middle value of the three sister courses, but that's faint praise. Man O War was the best , and perhaps the only one worth playing, and the Witch was the worst.
