Westchase Golf Club
About
Designed by Lloyd Clifton, Westchase winds through acres of lakes, conservation areas and forest. It offers manicured greens surrounded by natural wetlands, wooden bridges and bulkheads. With its 9,500 sq. ft. clubhouse, full-service dining room, and fully stocked pro shop, Westchase offers a country club atmosphere along with first-class service. The golf club has established itself as one of Tampa Bay's best upscale golf facilities. The front nine meander through an impressive pine forest. The back nine -- which is demanding on the tee shot -- features lakes, wetlands and cypress. Strategically placed bunkers, more sparkling lakes and stands of cypress, oak, palmetto and pine frame the fairways and greens. Signature Hole No. 3, at 212 yards from the back tee, is all you can handle -- It's a Par 3 all-carry over water from the back tee!

Greens are look the same
Perfect sunny day, light breeze and temp of 56 degrees. The course was drier than normal due to lack of rain the last 4 days, so ideal conditions. The sand traps are the best I have seen in a long time for any course, only played out of the sand once, but did take a few practice shots out of them while waiting for the tee box ahead of me to open up on a few holes. The greens are very big and remind me of a well kept practice greens you find in many golf courses. Not much in elevation change from one end to the other on the greens or any two tier challenges. The greens were firm and my divots were hard to find. But very well kept fast greens. Met the Starter , Peter of Columbus , Ohio, Very friendly and helpful, told me the greens StimpMeter was 10.8, which means nothing to me, as most golf courses rarely have that info available so I have no experience using it to gage anything.
Fairways are in very good shape and there are many holes that create a challenge on how to play them. Look forward to returning as two of the par 3's swallowed 4 golfs balls of mine when I failed to carry the water . Played from the Tips as it was not too long, which turned out to be a mistake, after I pared the 1st hole and somehow all my drives were coming up 20 to 30 yards shorter than my normal. Been hitting the ball sky-high of late. I recommend playing here. Bought a golf shirt afterwards and I only do that at courses I liked, even if I sucked on that particular day. Shot a 96:( ( 6 lost balls)
Great condition after hurricane
Surprised how nice the course was after storm. Greens almost perfect, fairways in good condition. Play was slow due to 2 groups of walkers. Food at turn ok and prices as expected. Weather was perfect. Course layout has some interesting holes but not over the top
Westchase shines
Ive played this course about 50 times over the years. It’s in the best shape I’ve ever seen. Kudos to maintenance staff. Can’t wait to play it again.
Pockmarked Greens
Fun layout hampered by putting greens that while fast, suffered from indifferent golfers not repairing pitch marks. We were the 5th group off that morning and repaired a bunch of pitch marks on every green. Every green had a lot of ball mark damage; definitely taking putts off line.
Great Course
Excellent condition. Great layout!
I highly recommend it!
Hot!
It was a hot one out there as this course is built into a wetlands and the surrounding trees make it tough to get any breeze at all. Loved the layout but the greens seemed to have Vern very sandy making it tough to putt
Great Course
Visiting the area and decided to play this course which I never played before.
Really enjoyed the course. Would play again.
I have played course of and on since it opened years ago
Course conditions are deplorable, especially the front nine. Could not distinguish between the rough and fairways which had not been cut in weeks due to rains. Fairways full of weeds as were the bunkers. Course was unplayable in many fairway landing areas. Average depth of some fairways was 6” and the rough was much worse. Do Not Play for rates currently being charged. Quite frankly they need to shut the course down until conditions are drastically improved.
Always great place to play
This place always plays nice , is kept in great shape.
Very fun layout
Took a little longer then expected to finish 18 but course was in great shape!
Good public course
I added 1 star per category because of the strain Covid has caused on all business, golf clubs included. The layout is great, it’s a very nice piece of land, surrounded by trees and lakes. The pace of play was a problem, as were the bunkers and tee boxes. The fairways were good but had some issues with weeds and divots. There wasn’t any sand in the cart to replace or fill a divot and that’s obviously an issue. The greens were nice and rolled well. Casual club, lots of untucked shirts and so probably best used for practice when available.
The gentleman in the Pro Shop was unbelievably kind and provided an accurate description of the course when I checked in. Unfortunately there weren’t any range balls so you could only roll some putts and go.
I would give the course another shot but not until winter. The pace of play coupled with Summer heat (and rain) in Florida make it difficult to get in and out.
Final thought, go with friends and don’t worry about the pace of play, it is most suitable for a long round where you can be a little more casual.
Great for the location and price
As someone who lives here but generall plays other courses, I thought I'd give it a try for the first time in years.
The course conditions are solid although the greens could be slightly better as well as the fairways.
The course layout is a bit tight and not my favorite in terms of hole variety, although it's solid considering it's a residential course.
My main issue is that their mid-day prices are way too high for the summer and defintiely not worth over $40 which they continue to charge. If given a change the price, I would change it to 5-stars as I'd rather spend a tad more to play at TPC Tampa.
Also would add that the staff is quite friendly.
