TPC Scottsdale - The Stadium Course
About
Designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf, The Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale was purpose-built to host the PGA Tour's Phoenix Open, and it has done so since 1987. Designed with high drama in mind, the venue is well known as one of the most exciting and fan-friendly in all of golf, which includes a thrilling finishing stretch that begins with the risk-reward 15th hole. The course plays to over 7,200 yards from the tournament tees, but golfers who play the course during their Arizona golf vacation will find the layout has more forgiving fairways than many other area desert courses. The TPC experience includes one of the most encompassing practice areas in the destination, as well as grand clubhouse that includes the Toro Restaurant and Rum Bar. TPC Scottsdale is also home to the Champions Course, which plays out of a separate facility nearby.

First Time Desert Golf
Wanted to see what playing desert golf was like during the summer. Played from the blue tees and played decent. Average golfers dream with wide fairways on most holes.Greens were very receptive. I would love to play here again and give the tips a try.
good but not great
Its a bucket course only for the Phoenix open and 16,17 and 18. The reality is that its not really a special course, nor a very beautiful or difficult one. Its famous and so they charge ridiculous fees to the many folks who want to tick this one off their list.
This is a great course to walk. Dont ride. Its flat and easier to walk than ride. You'll be stuck on the cart path on more holes than not and the restrictions that they have on the carts will drive you mad as the carts will just stop and beep at you with no control or direction.
The greens while true, were not in very good condition especially compared to the other top courses in the area. Many dead spots, many pocks and pits and a ton of old holes in your line. While the most expensive course in the valley, Its not nearly as well conditioned as the others and rates a 6/10 on conditioning. You are paying for the privilege to play 16 17 and 18.
Almost every bunker was filled with divots, foot tracks and worse. For a $200 course, they dont care for it very well.
The range was in terrible shape. We played at noon and the one yard wide hitting zone had NO smooth grass. It was all divots and sand. I had to ask for balls... Ridiculous for a course of this caliber and price.
I'd recommend playing it but its not nearly as good as a half a dozen options nearby.
A proper Scottsdale splurge
I've been to Scottsdale a bunch of times for golf, and have attended the Phoenix Open a few times, but finally got around to playing the Stadium course at TPC Scottsdale on a bachelor party.
We played the course in late April towards the end of peak season and conditions were still outstanding. What stuck out to me about the Stadium was just how much grass is out there compared to the many surrounding desert courses. Simply put: this may be a PGA Tour-worthy design, but hackers like us are actually going to have a fighting chance out here thanks to Weiskopf's design (more forgiving than the many Dye TPC designs).
The front side is good but the back nine is a real joy, with more water and decisions to make. The closing stretch is about as good as it gets, complete with a reachable par 5 and a drivable par 4.
Then there's the famous par-3 16th: What stuck out to me, playing the hole with all the bleachers taken down, was that it's actually one of the more naturally pleasant holes on the course, with some wonderful desert vegetation between the tee and green, framed nicely with the mountains in the back. It was, dare I say, quite peaceful.
Show up early to your tee time and have breakfast, which we did, and hit some balls and make use of the practice facility. The lies are tight in the fairway, so make sure your wedges are ready for it.
While I think I prefer Troon North's overall layout for desert destination golf (another Weiskopf special), you really can't go wrong at TPC thanks to the excellent facilities, staff, and exciting back nine all in the heart of Scottsdale.
Another off the bucket list
What a great golf course. The fairways and greens were immaculate. It was a treat to play. there is a premium to driving the ball well. Holes 15 to 18 are probably some off the best finishing hole I have played. what a treat!
Father and son...time of our lives!
My son and I played Feb 17. Record setting 90 degrees in Scottsdale for a record and gorgeous day. Only ten days after waste management open and the stadium at 16 still up!! What a rush.
Forecaddie was friendly and helpful. We r public course players so it was nice to b pampered.
Not cheap but a junior rate for my son...well with every penny
Must do Bucket list course
This was an amazing golf experience. Worth every penny. Course was in perfect condition. From the minute you arrive to check in and off to the range, everything first class. Greeted positively all throughout.
The range, chipping and putting green are incredible. Not hitting out of others divots to warm up.
It was my first time having a forecaddie and our guy, Rick, was the best. Treated us with a level of service that I am not accustomed to. I wish more courses would offer this option, because having him give advice, find you golf ball, and look after you was worth it.
The course does not take it easy on the guests either. I noticed the pin placements were the same you see on Sunday at the Phoenix open.
This is the closest I will likely ever come to feeling what it is like on the PGA Tour. Loved every minute of it, even though I got booed on 16.
Great experience
Course was in great shape near perfect greens where a little slow caddy was fun to work with and had some good stories about the course and tournament.
Bucket List
TPC was in PERFECT condition!!!!
True tournament conditions.
Just a wonderful day.....
Great Course, Great Service
Had a great time. Having a forecaddie added a lot to the experience.
Feel like a tour player for a day
Played with my brother for his bachelor party. We booked the first twilight tee time as we flew in earlier that day. Paid about $110 and we played through one group on the front nine & basically had the course to ourselves. Holes 15-18 we hit multiple shots as there was no one behind us. When the stands aren't up 16 is a pretty average par 3, but 15 & 17 are a lot of fun.
Fairways were immaculate, were cut tight & were like trampolines off the drive.
As a bucket list course where the PGA plays a lot of fun but for anything around peak season rate tough pill to swallow.
Pared the 16th !!!
Paired up with a father and two sons from Florida The course was different from the champions course I played a few years back. I would recommend both. The Stadium course played fair The greens were true and fast, the white sand a brilliant white, was perfect. I was in the sand four times , I am only an average sand player but found that only a thin layer of sand needed to be taken to have a good chance of making a good recovery. We played from the blues which for me as a 9/10 handicapper was fair . The 16th the famous par three was a really good par three. I hit the front bunker but I did not hear any boos! Made a good recovery and dropped a 6 foot putt for par Three pars and a bogey in the group made a good hole great! The 17th is a drivable hole Watch out for the water long and left. The clubhouse and pro shop are stunning,.The. 18th hole is framed by the back drop of the clubhouse and surrounding mountain ranges. They had some good deals on golf shirts and apparel. The service in the grill was poor . The food was worth the wait. Try the spicy wings and calamari as a snack. The staff appeared zoned out. It took 30 mins for the staff to come and process the bill.
However play TPC as your first round in Phoenix There are more scenic courses. Few maybe have the cache!
Great course but bad tee time!!
Only bad thing is that they should not sell a 3 pm tee time knowing you could not finish 18 holes.
Felt taken advantage of on that aspect
Wonderful experience
Fantastic course, staff, and amenities! Well worth the money!
Awesome
PGA Experience for the moderate golfer, this course was amazing. GPS built into the carts, great conditions, just amazing all around.
Best golfing experience ever
Booked as a single thru Golfnow day before for 7am. Greeted at bag drop by friendly staff, went to top class practice facility, tee time moved up earlier. Paired up with another single and finished round in 2 hours and 45 minutes. Had to take extra time on 16 to imagine playing it with the grandstands and thousands of people watching. Overall the best golfing experience ever, kudos to the staff at Toro restaurant as well.
Very challenging course
this is a nice course, it has some challenging holes and plays longer than it says.
Great experience... Slow play
Great golf course and worth the experience of pga golf course. Pace of play was just too slow.
Good Layout
Really enjoyed the course. Very long par 4's from
the tips as well as par 5's. Would definitely play again.
There staff was great!
Captain Obvious here: Play this course
This was not the first time I played the Stadium course, but the first since they made the changes.
You must play this course. In the 11 courses I played in the Pheonix area, it ranks a very very close second to Quintero (which is out of this world).
This round will hurt your wallet, but it is worth it. World class range, world class layout, world class conditions. I played from the tips, shot an 80 and was still happy with my round. 14th is one of the toughest hole I played ever.
Do not hesitate to play here
A great course to play
Except for the pace of play the round was most enjoyable. The marshall was on top of the problem and kept us informed as to the situation. The entire staff was courteous and helpful and we could not have asked for more. It was a great course to play and we hope to play it again.

Thank you for your review. I do want to explain the 3:00 p.m. tee time. All courses offer tee times that are considered twilight, which is saying you will not finish 18 holes, but we do discount the rate significantly to offset the fact that you will not finish.
