TPC Scottsdale - The Stadium Course
About
Designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf, The Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale was purpose-built to host the PGA Tour's Phoenix Open, and it has done so since 1987. Designed with high drama in mind, the venue is well known as one of the most exciting and fan-friendly in all of golf, which includes a thrilling finishing stretch that begins with the risk-reward 15th hole. The course plays to over 7,200 yards from the tournament tees, but golfers who play the course during their Arizona golf vacation will find the layout has more forgiving fairways than many other area desert courses. The TPC experience includes one of the most encompassing practice areas in the destination, as well as grand clubhouse that includes the Toro Restaurant and Rum Bar. TPC Scottsdale is also home to the Champions Course, which plays out of a separate facility nearby.

TPC
A lot of activity on the course due to the upcoming waste management tournament. I couldn't appreciate the change in course design because it was my first time playing. Greens had a nice speed. Staff was courteous, polite and informative.
Ton of Fun!
When we golfed the weather was absolutely miserable. This did lead to the course being basically empty. It was a great experience to have the course to ourselves. When we played they were almost done construction of all the stadium. Teeing off on the 16th hole with the stadium fully constructed was a little like entering the coliseum. The front nine is nothing spectacular but the back nine is definitely one to remember. It was very cool to be able to tee it up from the same places from the pro's and watch it a few weeks later. We were able to snag a great rate off of golf now otherwise we wouldn't have played. If you can get a deal I'd recommend everyone play this course. Only complain were the greens were rock hard so you couldn't hold very many approach shots on them.
TPC Scottsdale
Course was in great shape. Cart path only. We were a three singles paired up and we each had our own cart.
1st timer on the Stadium course but not my last!
Wow! Being from Minnesota and a frequent visitor to Phoenix to visit my mother who winters there, I had never played the Stadium course. I had always heard that for the money, it was way overrated and so I avoided playing in the past. This year, with a discounted rate after the minor renovations they made, we decided to give it a try. I am very happy I did. The only negative or what I had thought was a negative was they forced a Forecaddie to join us on our round. I was skeptical at first, but after a mutual understanding of what I needed for help, we were happy to have the assistance. The added help looking for errant balls and the raking of bunkers was extremely helpful and allowed for a quick pace of play. The conditions were as close to perfect as you can get as we were playing only 6 weeks away from the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Playing only 6 weeks before the WM Open, they were building all the suites and stands including the stadium on the 16th hole. (See pic) This made the experience that much more fun as we got to get a taste of what the Pros are seeing from inside the ropes. We played one set of tees up from the tourney boxes and it seemed like a great comparison to what the Pros look at for yardages for us weekend warriors. The course is very fair with no blind shots at all. The entire experience was a treat. While this is very pricey for 18 holes, I will definitely play the Stadium course again!
Beware of GolfNow
Just an FYI, although GolfNow will advertise that their Hot Deal times at the TPC include a forecaddie...it actually will not. The course does not provide the forecaddie to discounters.
Course was in good shape (the new bunkers are great). Cart path restriction is so burdensome. I think you would walk less if you carried your own bag (which they don't allow).
The back 9 is more interesting than the front 9.
Enjoy!
nice challenging course
very nice course with speedy greens, well manicured and friendly staff.
Awesome!
Ok... May be expensive but it was awesome playing at this mythical course! We went on Thanksgiving Day afternoon and had the course practically to ourselves! It was quite amazing!!!! Great condition... Preparing for Waste Management tourney so was cart-path only but that was okay... Easy to understand why they would want it to be at its best! Not sure it was worth over 200$, but for us, it was a perfect golf experience!
Good course but overrated
I liked the course, was in good shape and the staff and crew was very friendly and welcoming. Other than saying that you played the same course as the pros, not worth the money. The course was nice but not worth all that I paid. Was pretty expensive and like I said, other than saying you played on a PGA tour course you can play somewhere else nicer for less money.
Amazing
Great day with friends and the course staff are truly what make this a gem. I would recommend using some of your GolfNow Rewards to lower the price a bit unless budget is not an issue but pace of play this time of year was the best of any course I have played. Thank you to everyone there!
Great condition
This course was in Fantastic condition. Even after the Waste management open.
The greens are in great shape and the fairways are perfect.
Terrible Greens
I had played the course previously December 25 2012. The course was in a lot better shape then. This time in Feb of 2014 the Greens where horrible to put on. Had to much sand. Golf now should have some type of warning when a course Under going some kind of work being done. Tonto Verde has been the best course I have booked on Golf now !!!!!!!!
hmm what to say
I did not think it was worth what I paid for the round. I was paired up with 3 hacks that had absolutely no golfing etiquette, what so ever! they played out of turn and confused and distracted my entire game. Not only that they held up the play of others with no concern at all on chatting time or obtaining drinks...
But all in all, I would still say that the course itself and it's conditions were not worth the cost! Including the cost of what was approximately 12 balls in a bag that I got to practice with for somewhere around 5 to 7 additional dollars! The starter guys was very nice but I was unimpressed with the gal at the desk - who seemed quite snobbish at best, in my opinion
Watch Out For Snakes
We were driving our cart down the cart path and right in front of us was a 4 foot rattler basking in the sun. Someone told me the snakes are out early this year, so beware!!
Less than expected
Based on what I expected for a PGA tour stop course, this came up way short. I play regularly in the Phoenix area (weekly) and have found other courses to be a much better value. There is no reason to play this course other then you can say you played where the pros have played.
A place to play when in Scottsdale
I just played this course recently after the Phoenix open and was impressed with the course. We were 1st out and the course was in pristine condition. Greens were smooth and pretty quick and the course was manicured to my expectations of a course that hosts a tour event. This course is playable from any tee you choose. There is room off the tee but if you stray too far you will find desert area. It was a fun course to play but be careful as during the winter the price may be steep. But if the price is right for you it's a place to may when in the Phoenix area.
Terrible Greens
I played this course 2 years ago and the conditions were good. This time time the waiting to play at every hold was just too much. The greens had a lot of sand in it !! Could not judge the speech of the ball as each green had a little more of less sand. We were not told about the greens before hand, which would have made us think twice about playing. We travelled from BC for a weekend if golf - one day was ruined because of the poor conditions of the course.
Not just about the golf
Played mid-day on Presidents day.Nothing but positives about the course.Greens condition and speed good.Rough thick and difficult.Fairways well maintained.Bunkers well positioned and uniform sand quality.Joined up with a threesome [ hey Lee any Pics.] and teed off on the back nine to start. This would leave you to believe that some maitemence was happening on the front side.We played in just over 4 hours despite having several three and twosomes constantly driving up and us and forcing us to let them play through, this defintely affected the rhythm of our round. Then the beverage cart kept driving up on us while we playing shots and sqeezing her way around our carts.Pretty sure she nicked one trying to get past. There was also some worker on a 4x4 gator zooming all over the course and passing us as we were playing [holes 15,16,3,6. 9] to site a few.On holes 6 and 8 staff mowers were completely unaware of our existence as they continued to mow the rough right around and past us as we played.Actaully cutting off one of the carts in our group. After so many distractions it was diificult to concentrate and enjoy what I had looked forward to since last Nov. would be a memmoarable experience .I personally came a long way to play to get the T.P.C. experience. What I got was frustration at these completely controllable issues and a verbal apology that really didn't cut it.This was not a busy day for the course , we saw the marshall twice and were waived through at the turn like some kind of Nascar event. Not noramally a complainer , but WOW ! they need to go some here at T.P.C. Scottsdale !!
Course In bad shape
This was the worst course I have ever golfed and the state of Arizona
Not worth money
A TPC course should be a quality course. The conditions os the course was on par with the low end courses. Certainly not worth $100
