Overall the course was in good shape. One hole has a temporary green as they were building a new retaining wall on the par3. One green #5 is unplayable for damage on it. The greens are hard and have some different grasses starting to grow .Most tee boxes are
in good shape. They need more rain as all courses and this one are showing they are little dried out .
Great option
For the most part, course is in great shape. A few greens are in tough shape but overall fantastic for the price.
Big fan of deer island. One of my favorite courses in orlando
A delight to play this course always
A gem, worth the drive to North Orlando.
Each hole is a delight.
Toughest water bodies ever.
Its a delight to golf on this course, how lucky the people are that live in Deer Island.
Greens are getting rough
Played here several times over the last few years and always loved the layout and conditions. However, the greens are now getting rough, with a lot of weeds and some bare patches, Fairways are still great and most of the tee boxes good. Still a great course but I hope they don't give up on the greens!
A haven of wildlife
The course really caught my eye when standing on the first tee. Although there is a lot of water, this can be avoided if you plot your way round. I thought the 3rd and 4th holes were beautiful and very scenic. There was an amazing number of birds all around the course. A haven for wildlife!
Always a great place to play
I love playing Deer Island GC. Not only is the course awesome but it's in a beautiful setting. The only reason I rated it overall as a 4 rather than a 5 is that a few of the greens aren't the best right now, most likely thanks to Mother nature as opposed to a lack of care. The young lady in the pro shop was super pleasant, as was the starter. Pace of play was fine, as usual at Deer Island. It's always a pleasure to play Deer Island, which I consider one of the best courses in the area. Looking forward to playing it again soon.
Trending down
Course is not as nice as it once was. Overheard an employee say they have new owners and they are a little behind on maintenance. Surprisingly dry considering the amount of water on and around the course.
I’m sure they will get back to what they were given their reputation as a premier course.
All the staff were nice and helpful.
Deer Island
Challenging course in great shape. Water in play on all 18 holes. Plays tough in the wind. One of my favorite courses.
Bad greens
Loves everything about the course except the greens.
Always fun
One of our favorite courses. Greens in good condition, except for one that was heavily sanded. Tees, traps and fairways ok for this time of year. Nice surroundings in a quiet, natural setting. Island green on #13 still under repair from last year's storm.
You have to see it
Is a great location. Staff sucks and the course wasn’t at its best. But you have to see it.
Good to excellent overall. Challenging course in good condition but has some hurricane damage that they are working on. I would recommend especially if you can find a discount.
Beautiful Course
This was our first time playing Deer Island. What a beautiful course. The layout is quite tough. Water on every hole and the greens are quite challenging. Pace of play was just over 3 hours (well it was Easter Sunday). Would definitely go back and recommend this to anyone. Staff was very friendly.
Maybe Next Year...and put sand in the bunkers!
First off to charge full price for an unfinished course is wrong. At least put some sand in the bunkers. And no, Florida dirt is not sand. With that out of the way, great layout and very challenging course. Staff was pleasant, Although starter said they cannot send single players out. We were a twosome and waited for awhile with no one ahead of us. However, he did get us out a little early. Just thought it was weird. Some greens needed MUCH attention but overall greens were pretty good. Fairways were pretty good. The rough and greenside rough could be much better maintained throughout. Spray for weeds and such. In saying that the signature hole #13 is nowhere near being ready. And NO putting on shaved fairway overgrown with clover is NOT a viable option. When calling for the last 2 months, was told it'll be ready in a couple weeks. It will be at least a year!! Also when asked if the rates would be discounted for a partial course, the lady told us they just lowered the price. THAT WAS FOR COMING OUT OF PRIME SEASON IN FLORIDA!! Not because the course is partially down. Please don't try to BS a local resident. Overall a great deal if under $40, but hoping it will be turned around for end of the year.
Deer Island
Not for the faint of heart. Water in play on all 18 holes. Plays tough in the wind. One of my favorites.
Dad and matt
Very cool course. Extremely challenging with the hole layout but lots of fun. Definitely will take the one hour drive in the future to experience the course again
