River Oaks Golf Club
About
River Oaks Golf Club stretches across more than 800 scenic acres along the Intracoastal Waterway. The Course begins with the shortest of the three nines and finishes with the longest. The final hole on the front nine presents one of the most interesting risk-reward opportunities on the golf course. You can aim for the right bunker for an open shot at the green or try a long drive down the left side for a short approach. River Oaks Golf Clubs' Otter nine has several challenges in store including mounding, strategically placed bunkers, and tricky water hazards.

Great Challenging coyrse
Wonderful golf experience ... course I has a great layout. Aesthetically carved out and surrounding subdivisions enhance its ambience. It isn't terribly difficult but certainly challenging for recreational golfers. A course that will definitely invite you to come again.
Nice course
Nice course, but it’s slowed by a couple of jerks who cut in front of us while we followed a slow 4-some. We had to wait on them for 14 straight holes.
Very slow play
The starter told my foursome we were behind a foursome playing captains choice so they would be fast.
Nothing farther from the truth. It was a fivesome of beginner golfers, I mean 50 yards at a time, and they had a dog they carried along with them., who ran around the course during play. Never saw a ranger or I would have told him. Never seen mismanagement of a golf course like this. Almost 3 1/2 hrs to play nine holes. Never acceptable. We left after nine. On the plus side they did provide a rain check for nine after a torrential rain storm. But we would have missed it if it wasn’t for this fivesome
Fox/Otter review
Course was tough enough to offer challenges while keeping a good pace of play. Was friendly to the women at most times.
windy and wet
River Oaks needs work. The greens were in rough shape. The sand traps still had water in them from recent storms from several days ago. I was surprise that the course did not have cart path only due to the wet conditions.
Skip it
This course is in absolutely terrible condition. The starter put me off as single behind a group of 2 that had just teed off, when they let me play through there were two groups of four directly in front of them. Why he had me start on the 10th behind these three groups is a mystery since there were only about 15 cars in the parking lot. But aside from that the fairways are overgrown and extremely wet in some areas, the greens were hit and miss, a few nice and a few burned up. Paid $39 for 18 and it is worth about half that price.
Ok for price
Course was in good shape. Greens good too. Good price. Would play again
A challenge every time I play
Every time I play any of the three courses at River Oaks I feel challenged. The course presents changes from early morning to late afternoon, sunny to cloudy conditions. Wet or dry this course is different each round.
good solid course
I played the Otter & Bear 9 hole courses. The course was in good shape. A few greens had burnt spots but they were small and out of the way. My only complaint was the tee box markers on the Otter course were almost impossible to see from the cart I had to wanted the tees looking for the correct color tee box It is not a difficult layout.
Ok course
Well our trip was cut short due till weather. Only played the first 9 and three holes on back. Kind of glad we didn’t get the rest of the back nine. The Bear ( (19-28) were in less then Acceptable conditions. The rough around fairways was so tail and think you couldn’t get a descent shot out of it if you missed the fairway. The cart path was is horrible shape. Finally the drainage of that side course was not up to par. Even before the rain of the day it was wet and soggy from the light rain the day before.
The front nine wasn’t to bad but had a few of the same issues and areas of the course that looked like repairs are being made. The staff was excellent and the club house had a large outside deck to sit at. I do plan to play my rain check when I’m back in town. Hopefully then it will have a few areas fixed.
Challenging Value
good price for a challenging course. Needs some work approaching some greens and on some too. Staff is very friendly.
Familiarity Helps
These courses are so beautiful. I played Bear/Fox today. Yesterday, Otter/Fox. Wednesday, Otter/Bear. The paths on Bear are worn, but the fairways and greens are fine. I lost a lot of balls Wednesday, none yesterday, and left today + 3 balls! There are places where your ball rolls right down the hill to water. You just have to be careful. The ball and club cleaners on the carts are great assets. Staff are helpful and friendly.
It’s called a Premium on hitting fairways! If you cannot hit driver or any wood over 245yds w/Left right dispersion 15yds or LESS. stick to par 3 or putt putt until increase strength by 33% to get out of rough sissy boy
