Candler Hills Golf Club
About
Candler Hills Golf Club in Ocala was designed by Florida native Gordon G. Lewis. In a state that has no shortage of golf courses, Candler Hills manages to stand out. The layout offers plenty of length at 7,233 yards from the back tees. The 662-yard fourth hole is the longest par 5 in Florida. There are no water hazards on the golf course, but what it lacks in water it more than makes up for in sand. Strategically placed traps line the fairways and greens. The layout has some challenging holes but it's fair and playable for all skill levels. Candler Hills G.C. is also well known for its extensive practice facility, which has a range with target greens placed at different yardages and a short-game area with a practice bunker and undulating green.

Always a Great Course to Play
This course is always in very good condition and great course to play.
I enjoy the course and the staff but the pace of play has become an issue lately. The course is very open and pace of play should be much better.
My impression
Great course ,greens and fairways always in great condition. Cart staff and on course personal are the best. A must play course. I play here at least once a month.
What a really great course
Such an excellent golf course. Great staff, great food, great driving range and a fantastic golf course!
Good course
Good layout with challenging bunkers but no water. Fairways and greens well maintained and pace of play was very acceptable.
Well kept and challenging
Fairways and greens were in great shape. Bunkers raked. Staff friendly.
Pace of play good.
Excellent Day
Fabulous course, minimal wait; 4 ladies played 18 holes in under 4 hours on a Sunday. Will definitely play here again. Used Golf Now.com but think they had the same rate if we had called the Pro Shop. Delightful dinner after- very reasonable prices. We’ll be back!!!
Wide open
This course is very user friendly. The fairways are extremely wide, landing areas off the tee should be very easy to find, and there are not many penal hazards. The greens seem very grainy and do not seem to roll as well as some of the better local courses.
All in all scenic and very non-memorable, but in good shape.
Why i gave it a four!
Had a 9:20 tee time with two members. They were great, and the staff were also. The course conditions were good except some of the greens had bare spots. The members had even expressed they were not happy about it. The course is a confidence booster with wide fairways, no rough, and no water. Had food after at the resturant. It was great and service was spot on. Course condition and cost is why I gave it a four.
Great Day of Golf
It was a Sunday afternoon round of golf, so it was a little slow, but nothing outrageous. Lots of bunkers, no water. Greens were a a little thin and bumpy. Surprised for this time of year. Staff was extremely friendly, with the marshalls coming around on a regularly basis and the cart girl came around frequently. Good value for the price. Good selection of tees that allow you some variety. My wife liked where the ladies tees were, she felt they presented a challenge, but weren’t unreasonable.
Thanks Candler
We normally get treated like low class because we book on Golf Now. This time we were treated kindly and I believe it contributed to the round of my life. The conditions were perfect and I shot a 78, which is my personal best.
Finally made the trip
We have heard that Candler Hills was a go to place and finally booked a tee time. We got a twilight fee of $30 which we thought was a fair price for the time day and during the winter season. We had the course to ourselves until the last two holes when we caught the last of the earlier tee times. The first and tenth tees were pretty far from the clubhouse and/or your car so if you forget something before leaving the staging (as we did) be prepared to spend some time going back to get it what ever it was that you forgot. There were five sets of tees, the back tees are 7300+ yards (yikes) and include a 662 yards par five! The forward tees were a great length for my wife and beginners (4785) . I played the middle/blues tees at 5978 yards which suited me just fine.
We knew ahead of time that there were a ton of sand traps on the course and sure enough there were a bunch. However the fairways were generous enough where those traps were not overly intrusive. The bunkers by the greens were large but fair. The few traps that we got into were in great shape and were well manicured. The fairways were nice and green with plenty of healthy grass to hit from. They needed to be mowed but they were fine. Some of the courses we have been playing this winter don’t over seed so the fairways are not very plush: these were. The greens, however, were just OK. They were slow and spotty in some areas. It almost seemed that they had been plugged and sanded, but there were no punch holes in them. The starter told us that they were in much better shaper about a month ago (our timing was wrong in that respect).
Ocala, FL a beautiful area and the course winds up, down and around some rolling hills. The course also winds though a housing community and there was a bit of construction in and around the site. There were a few holes that were quite far apart from one hole to the next and while there were directional signs sending you to the next hole, there could have been a few more in spots where carts paths and sidewalks. We really enjoyed the course and will surely will be back again. Dan Crosby
Over all it was excellent some the greens a little under the weather but was one of the best golf course in the Ocala area
GOOD LAYOUT - OK CONDITIONS
What happened to the excellent greens and fairways. One of my favorites is having trouble with the greens and fairways have been better. Travel from The Villages to play here monthly but I am going to wait it out a bit and read reviews before I play it again..
great course
Course in great shape as always. Pace of play slower than normal but it was very windy conditions today..
