The Classic Club
About
On the Classic Club's scenic landscape, golfers will find a wide variety of trees including olive trees, towering pines, and California pepper, but unlike the many other golf courses in Palm Springs, there isn't a single palm tree. The Classic Club opened in 2006 to much acclaim and has since garnered a following amongst locals and visitors. Formerly a host site for the Bob Hope Classic, the challenging layout has an interesting mix of tour-worthy holes including intimidating par 3s balanced by reachable par-5s and short par-4s. Water hazards come into play on 13 holes. The back nine begins with a memorable stretch of holes. The par-4 10th is a tight driving hole with an elevated green and the 11th hole requires a shot over water. The stretch ends with the par-3 12th, which also plays over water to a well protected green.

Water Ahead
Wouldn't expect to play a course with as much water as this one in the desert. Overall extremely challenging!
Dry conditions on the fast fairways made it a task to stay in play.
Would love a second crack at this gem!
Great course
Love the whole experience here . Great value, practice facility, pro shop ,lunch ,playing experience, happy hour after. All too notch !
Beautiful course well groomed challenging . A don't miss while on Palm Springs area
Great day of golf
Conditions of this course were generally great. Only issue that could use attention were the bunkers and lack of sand. Maybe due to recent rains, but seemed like 1/2" of sand over slabs of granite. Greens are challenging to read but rolled true.
Things were pretty backed up - we teed off about a 1/2 hour late and pretty much waited on every hole but still managed to finish in a little over 4-1/2 hours. Staff was very friendly. Would play here again but probably only at promotional or summer rates.
Classy vlassic
The greens had just been treated which made putting an adventure but otherwise the course was as expected. It is long, challenging but fair. The clubhouse and pro shop are first class and the food was very good. Staff were friendly and helpful with a strong commitment to service. We play this course every year on our annual escape from Alberta to Palm Springs.
Just one hiccup otherwise a great day golfing
Course conditions as good as almost any course that I remember playing, very well done in every way.
Challenging and creative layout with enough tee boxes for most skill levels. Will definitely try and play here again.
Challenging scene while checking in. I asked the gent who was checking us in to please be sure that our Troon account numbers were recorded. He responded with a very negative attitude, informing me that since we booked the golf through Golf Advisor (ultimately Golf Now), that they do not give Troon members credit since Golf Now receives all of the green fees. Not something that you would normally dump on a customer, AND we found the course via reviews on Golf Advisor.
HOWEVER, seeing the we were obviously disappointed, a different clubhouse attendant followed us outside, retrieved our Troon numbers, and assured me that he would not only enter our Troon numbers against our green fees, he would also see to it that we received credit for the $$ that we spent in the clubhouse. THIS is what creates loyal customers. If not for this gent, we would never have returned to this golf course. Because of him, we shall try to play it many more times, and recommend it to our golfing friends who are plentiful. Good job kid, make him the GM.
A beautiful, well-manicured course!
Course was in impeccable shape.....fairways were perfect and greens rolled smooth and true. All staff members were very friendly and helpful. It was a great round in a beautiful setting!
Excellent golfing experience
We had a wonderful time at Classic Club. The course condition and the view are spectacular. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. To top it up they gave us two golf towels as souvenirs and two coupons $15/pp to enjoy after golfing at the beautiful club house. What a deal!!!
The course was GREAT!! Unlike other PS courses. Lots of water in play. Staff was very courteous and helpful. A must play!!
Great Memories
haven't played there for a while but played often a few year ago and it only bring back great memories. Greg is a great leader for the club and keeps it in great shape.
Great value
Played with the wife and my brother and while the weather was poor the course was great. The towel, divot tool and ball marker along with lunch was a great value. They have bottled water along the course for free as well. The course was in great shape and we really enjoyed it.
When in town again we will be back.
Just a great morning
Everything about my morning at the Classic Club was perfect; from the staff to the practice facilities to the starter to the flawless conditions and great pace of play (under 4 hours on a Saturday for 3 golfers is unheard of!); it was just a great day! We stayed for lunch and that was fantastic as well!
Well done everyone!
A great course!
The Classic Club is a beautiful course and demands good course management. If the wind blows, the course is much tougher to play. We played in calm winds on a beautiful day. The course was just beautiful. The greens are mostly large and aren't too fast (yet). There are plenty of traps around the greens and water throughout the course. It's a very good test of one's skills and a joy to play. Well worth the green fees and humility.
A must visit - best course we played all week
We played this as the last course of 7 over the week and what finale it was! From the moment you arrive you are met with warm, friendly and appreciative service. Free ball marker, pitch repairer, golf towel and lunch voucher. Course is absolutely stunning - never taken so many pictures on a golf course. Free water bottles every 3 holes. Layout and condition were superb. Greens were a touch slow due to overseer but very true and will be up to speed in about a week. Staff and service in the clubhouse is without fault. We will play this course again if we return
Great Course,
I really enjoyed my round of golf. Visually stunning course layout. On par with Indian Wells Resort Course. Greens were a little slow, but it was week or so after overseeding. Well worth +$100.
Beautiful course, good value
We've skipped playing this course on previous visits to the area as we were told it gets very windy here. We had a morning tee time on a windless day. This is a beautiful course. There is water on most holes so it is challenging but not too daunting for the average golfer. Even with overseeing planned in less than a week the course was in great condition. The grill and other amenities are top class. We'll definitely be back.
Classic Club
Played the Blues (6711/72.9/135) in less than 3H as a single using my last Troon Rewards certificate. Around 110, clear with a little breeze. Knowing the greens were poor from playing here previously, it was still an easy call to come back and use a Troon certificate because in September the "cost" is 1 Troon certificate, but that goes up to 3 Troon certificates in the October-May in prime season. Having seen the Palmer design once before was a definite plus. Several holes the trouble is either 50 yards farther or closer than it appeared to me. Much like SilverRock, Mr. Palmer did a masterful job of giving the illusion that a driving area that is normal size or even large looks extremely tight from your tee shot view. Long, challenging and demanding layout that is basically SilverRock on steroids, I see many similarities in the style of the holes. Several tees are spaced from the last green, rolling hills and the heat would make this a challenging course to walk. The Bermuda tees were very nicely maintained with only the par 3's needing divot attention. The Bermuda fairways were semi lush, firm and mowed close which produced lots of roll. Some brown areas, but good overall. The Bermuda rough was lush and nice to play from with medium to short irons. Just long enough to make longer clubs a chancy play. The sand traps were excellent. Very nicely maintained with good quality brown sand. The deep vericutt on the greens was a little better than yesterday but still really affected putting. No large mounds or tiers but there was rarely a straight putt anywhere with lots of undulations producing subtle breaks. Medium speed, firm and bumpy. The customer service was superb from everyone encountered. Complementary water and range balls on a 1st class grass practice facility. Cart gal out making numerous rounds, as was the very visible Player Assistant. Everything about this facility was great. It is not worth the $99 rack with mediocre greens, but still recommended if you can get a discount. Definitely one of the top 10 favorite layouts I have ever played where par on almost any hole is a good score for me. Great way to conclude a week in Palm Springs where I managed to get in 19 rounds of golf in 8 days, over a dozen of which were enjoyed with various different GKers.
WET AND LONG!!!
I am sorry I cannot give a higher rating, but here goes...
I gave Pace of Play 5 stars since I was pretty much alone. I detest this category and cringe at the very phrase, since it has become more important than fixing divots, raking bunkers, and especially fixing ball marks.
Course conditions were wet and not rolling at all. From the tips made it very long thus the extremely difficult, but had it been a little drier then it would be somewhat challenging.
Bunkers wet and compact with water in most.
Greens were very slow, but true. I left 3-4 putts a few inches short. Just could not hit them that hard.
Overall a good experience, but the course was TOO WET! The overall 3 stars is because it IS all about the course after all.
