Balfron Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course that was recreated from its original layout by respected Scottish golf architect Robin Hiseman. The new nine-hole golf course was opened in 1994, and it was extended to 18 holes 7 years later.

The Baltron golf course is located six miles from Loch Lomond and 20 miles north of Glasgow. There are inspiring views of the local countryside, eerily reminiscent of playing golf in the Scottish highlands.

Balfron in july

Booked at last minute via golf now. Paid £21 for a round at 1100 in midweek. The weather was drizzly with a stiff breeze to begin with.

Enjoyable walk, helped by scenery and played pretty, well for me.

The course is quite forgiving off the tee, and there are a few shorter par 4s, so I got a bit of flow going in my round. This would help too with the pace of play were it busier.

The greens were generally small, with a few false fronts, some humps and bumps and greens nestling just over a rise, so it felt like a second shot course.

The last 6 holes are a good stretch. Playing back to the clubhouse ,the Campsies are a strong stolen feature and there is out of bounds and water hazards to contend with. This is where my score fell away but the challenge was always thoughtful with good golfing danger. Playing this stretch more would have helped with lines off the tee and clubbing. ( Am a bit old school).

The tees could've done with a cut and divot but the greens were thick with grass and ran true ,albeit slow. I saw the greenstaff out working and they all gave a wave.

This was an enjoyable round ,that encouraged my game and finished with a good run of interesting and fun holes. I'll try and play again this summer.

Excellent experience

From the friendly greeting by the ground staff to the immaculate greens and fairways the hole course and surroundings were excellent. A credit to the small team who maintain it.

A Hidden Gem

I greatly enjoyed Balfron, it is an excellent example of a community golf club and when their new clubhouse is completed I’m sure it will rise up in the rankings of courses to play. I’d recommend this to anybody, people in the area who have not played this course are missing a treat.

Balfron on a wet and windy day

A lovely course surrounded by stunning scenery. The tees, greens and fairways were in very good condition particularly despite some biblical rain in days leading up and some good downpours on the day. Not a puddle in sight.

We got a warm welcome from both local members and the starter who fed us important pointers about play and local rules. There were only a handful of other players out due to the forecast of wind and rain so play was as fast as we wanted it to be.

The new clubhouse is under construction so there are no facilities at all at present but this didn’t spoil a good game on a lovely course.

Great wee course

Not the longest of courses but still enough variety to challenge you, particularly when the wind is blowing as it was during my round. The 14th hole is one of the toughest par 3’s you will come across in these conditions. Greens were in good condition and running very true. Well worth a visit.

Excellent course

Brilliant course, nice design and in very good condition. Views are spectacular and value for money was excellent. We paid £24 for a round! The only downside is that a new clubhouse is being built meaning no facilities, when the club house is finished this will be 5/5 on all measures
