Rams Hill Golf Club
About
Located at the heart of the immense Anza Borrego State Park, Rams Hill Golf Club sits perched on a hillside overlooking the desert floor. Tom Fazio designed the course, fully utilizing the existing features of the terrain from the natural slopes and undulations to the many lakes and streams. The layout features rolling fairways and elevated greens framed by carefully sculpted bunkers. Each hole has a different character, as well as a different set of challenges, thanks to the natural elevation changes. The final hole is considered a classic Fazio finishing hole and one of the most memorable on the golf course. This par 5 begins with a downhill tee shot to a wide fairway that slopes towards a large lake on the right, then you'll face an uphill third shot to a green protected by an array of threatening bunkers and a large waterfall.

Rams Hill!
Played today at 12:40 and as usual the course was in incredible shape! Always a treat to travel down south and play here! Weather was perfect and the pace of play was fantiastic, it felt like we were the only foursome on the course. Rams hill is absolutely worth the travel time as no one would be disappointed playing this hidden gem in the Middle of the desert. Can't Wait to get back out and play it again.
A Gem in the Desert
Excellent customer service and clubhouse aside, this is a great golf course. From the flawless tee boxes setup to challange all skill levels to the rambling plush fairways and on to the well maintained bent grass greens this course is a true Gem. Bent grass greens are few in San Diego county and a real treat to putt on. The entire course is in fine country club shape and one feels like a privileged member out there. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the course condition and layout; perfect. Obviously a well run facility and a real pleasure to play.
Unbelievable
We drove two hour east from San Diego to play this beauty. Perfect conditions and friendly staff led to my favorite day of golf yet. After our round everyone we met couldn't believe what they just played. Can't recommend the course more!
Great Course
Very beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and desert and great conditions. Very playable but challenging. I would definitely make the drive to come back and play.
Amazing!
The course is in the middle of nowhere! I am giving it 5 stars inspite of that. The practice facility is one of the best I've ever seen (ProV1s on the range). The course itself was in amazing condition. The pace of play was unde 4 hours. This has become my favorite course after only 1 round! (And I've played Aviara, La Costa, Maderas, Torrey Pines, and all the PGA West courses).
A great desert track
While the drive to Rams Hills can be challenging (2 hours from Orange County), it was well worth the trip.
*Pace of play: 3.5 hours. Never had to wait. I love that.
*Course conditions: Courses in Orange County are nowhere as green as Rams Hill, and the greens were in perfect condition. I found the sand a few times as well (you will too), and they were in decent condition.
*Staff friendliness: Just fine. Dan at the bar was great.
*Value for the money: $80 is a great price for a Fazio-designed course, especially with how well-manicured the course was.
*Off-course amenities: I did eat some breakfast in the restaurant, and the breakfast burrito was wonderful. Outside of that, I can't say much for the other amenities.
Amazing
This course is off the hook amazing. It's in impeccable shape. Every hole is beautiful. It's a real hidden gem.
Magnificent golf course
This is in my opinion the very best public golf courses in all of San Diego County, and yes that includes some private ones I have played, like the Torrey Pines, Bridges, and Crosby.
Top rate, perfect greens, true rolls, speed was 11, all tee boxes totally level, mint, Pro V practice balls, includes w/ green fee in pyramids w/ very nice practice areas both front and back. Lots of water on many holes as well as perfect conditioned bunkers. I would HIGHLY recommend this course to good golfers who what the very best value for the price. Very picturesque . Fairways perfectly mowed, top condition, no weeds or gopher holes. This was a terrific golfing experience definitely will be playing this course again soon,. Loved IT!
Great layout, fun to play
Layout is tough but fair and the number of traps make it imperative to keep the ball straight.
GREAT Golf Course
A very good Fazio golf course! Course is fantastic shape and some of the best tee boxes you will ever see. Staff is very friendly and the food is fantastic! I will for sure be going back to play again soon!
Stunning! Worth the drive!
Recommended by several people, hour and half outside of Palm Springs. Stood up to all the recommendations! However, had an 11:10.....didn't tee off until 11:30, as they put 2 groups in front of us, not a big deal but being informed would be appreciated. (the pace of play slowed dramatically). I will be back though!
Hidden gem
A very beautiful Fazio designed course located in a hidden valley trapped between mountains on one side and a national park on the other. If your looking for a holiday to really get away from the masses this is it, in a sleepy town of 3000 and a couple resorts to stay at. Definitely worth the 80 mile drive south of Palm Springs.
Great track!!!
I have played a lot of course in my life but this one just became one of my favorites. One of the best tracks I have seen. The Tom Fazio design is forgiving for the higher handicapped player but still a great test for the pros. Beautiful views and a gorgeous clubhouse in the middle of nowhere. This must of been what the Palm Springs area looked like 70 years ago.
Fantastic
One of the best courses I have played! The course was in pristine condition. The staff were super friendly! One of the owners Bill Berklley chatted with us after our round. The only downside was that the restaurant was not open that day but the the very nice guy in the pro shop sold us some beer and we sat on the beautiful patio and relaxed after our game and watched others come into the 18th.
Thank you debher007 for taking the time to write in a review and give a 5 star rating! We are pleased that you had a wonderful experience on the course. We hope you can come back and try out the restaurant when you play on the course in the future!
Gem in the Desert
Yes, it's a bit of a trek to get to this course for most folks. But it does have its benefits. The mixture of mountains, desert, and semi-isolation make for a more pure and serene golfing experience and a better chance to appreciate what a exceptional track this is. The course was in great condition from tee to green, and sometimes you felt like you were the first person playing here. Unfortunately looks like the warmer weather was beginning to brown a few areas. I found the course to be deceptively difficult at times and my having to think twice about club selection and shot placement. Bunkers sometimes were very strategically placed and balls broke where you sometimes didn't expect. Greens rolled true, but tended to be undulating and plateaued. You would need to play this track 2 or 3 times before you understand all the little nuances of it. For what I paid on Golfnow to play here, think it was a fair deal and well worth the drive to play.
Thank you Hacksalot03 for the 5 star review! We appreciate your time to write in feedback. Hope to see you on the course again soon.
Most incredible golf experience
This golf course is a MUST play! Impeccably manicured fairways and challenging undulating greens. Every tee box displayed the most incredibly picturesque backdrop of the beauty of the Anso-Borrego desert. Can't wait to go back and enjoy this lovely golf course and all the creature comforts offered here!
Thank you for your 5 star review! We appreciate your time to write your course experience and feedback. See you out on the course again soon!
Rams Hill - definitely worth the drive!
Played the Blues (6369/70.9/131) as a 2some with Rat-Patrol in slightly over 4H on a very windy afternoon with temperatures around 70. I used the Rams Hill B-Day special, allowing me to play for the $20 cart fee. Thank you Rams Hill!
The wind really swirls here, it was changing direction from shot to shot and gusting. I was clubbing up 3 clubs into the wind late in the day.
Concerning course conditions, everything was in the 9-10 out of 10 range across the board.
The tees were very well maintained. Large, level with few divots, mowed down close, near immaculate.
The fairways were lush with few divots. A couple of discolored areas but still excellent overall.
The rough was also very lush. Thick and even though the ball usually sat up, long enough to make longer clubs a chancy play. Get outside the maintained rough and the native rough is lost ball thick.
The sand traps were immaculately maintained with good quality sand. I don't see how a public course in a windy area could maintain their traps any better, and there are close to 100 of them total on this course.
The greens were excellent! Firm, smooth, medium fast and rolled well.
The customer service was excellent. We were greeted in the parking lot on arrival and offered a ride to our car after the round. The pro shop staff was also excellent. The setup of the all grass driving range with the complementary Pro-V range balls is top notch even for a high end facility. Most of the range is sand, with numerous grass greens set up as targets in 25-30 yard increments so you could hit almost any club and feel like you were hitting into a green.
I like the course layout, I can see the high slope rating. Many holes are visually intimidating with 97 well placed traps and a decent amount of water. Four different sets of tees for men, all varied by 400-500 yards. The course was fair, not overly tight and an excellent test of golf. Definitely recommended!
Thank you for your 5 star review! We appreciate your time to write in a review of your course experience. We strive to provide great customer service for our guests. Hope to see you out on the course again very soon!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have played all over the US and Mexico. Nothing compares to the this beautiful course. It's so green it looks blue. I have become a junky for this course. It is a short drive from San Diego, and we'll worth it. I can't say enough about how friendly and warm all the staff are. They make you feel like a member even if you book from golfnow. You will not find one hole that you dislike. Plenty of tee boxes to choose from for your game. Ever hole is picturesque and you must bring a camera. We played the other week with 25-30 mph winds and it still was a great day. I'm so glad that we took a journey to this wonderful course and can't wait for another day out there.
your enthusiasm and colorful description had me wanting go and see for myself. And I do. WOW.... IS CORRECT. THANKS FOR KEEPING US GOLF JUNKIES IN THE LOOP.
