Great deal
Booked via golf now. Great deal and moved through the course fairly fast for a Sunday (5 hours)
Play elsewhere
Great views but the course is not worth the money. Poor conditions and not well maintained. Much better courses in the area for the same if not lower price.
Unsatisfactory course condition
Patchy, bumpy greens, sand bunkers in need of sand, fairways with lots of bare soil areas. Course conditions were much worst than when I played the course months ago...very disappointed! Hope course maintenance staff can fix the problems for a course with a very nice and somewhat challenging layout.
Nice Course for Intermediates and Above!
Pleasant course to play, challenging enough but not overly difficult. Would recommend to intermediate players and above.
Most pro shop staff are cordial, professional and welcoming :)
Love the landscaping improvements at the club, really nice touch to include flowering plants as well.
Facilities and course are well managed, amazing that even in a drought management has cut back in the right areas and the course is still enjoyable to play.
Keep up the great work!
Back Nine outstanding
Great course, best back nine around. Great value for money.
Great Value
The course at Mare Island is a challenge. You have specif targets to hit in order to have a decent shot to the green. The greens were smooth and faster than the average greens I play. You won't be disapointed when you play. The course is great. The weather was great and with the bay breeze always comfortable.
Great Experience, Beautiful Course
I was in town for work and snuck away to play a round. This course is absolutely beautiful. It was a pretty challenging course, especially the back nine with all of the elevation changes. There was an ungodly slow group in front of us that made the round take over 4:30 and there doesn't seem to be any marshals to enforce quicker play.
Pace of play is a big problem.
This was the 4th time I have played this course and the 3rd time I've had problems with pace of play. They REALLY need a marshal and a starter.
Windy Day at Mare Island (but fun/challenging)
I've played this course many times, but we got the heaviest wind conditions I've ever experienced (1:30PM tee time). The greens were in great condition (wicked fast, but true). Some of the fairways were a bit dodgy (bare/sparse due to drought conditions). Never saw a course marshal (and we could have used one to pair up some twosomes and keep slower groups moving). The clubhouse and food staff were friendly and courteous. For the price, I would definitely play this course again (but I'd also check the forecast more closely to avoid or be prepared for blowy conditions).
Great value!
This course offers great value. You get a good course with nice greens and a variety of wholes - elevated tees, greens, dog legs, narrow and wide fairways. Something for everybody.
Its in better condition than last time I played there
In better condition but some cart paths still need repair. The club house is alot nicer
Very enjoyable
Liked the course very fast greens. I will be back!
Military base course
Windy course, small choked fairways to begin, some wear and tear evident, my day no course Marshall, not great for fast play, many players not aware of us behind, very gusty but scenic overall a fun course best alone , walkable but ride is fastest
Very poorly maintained.
The sides of the fairways are overgrown and littered with leaves. The first holes cup was half full with water. After loosing several balls on the skirt of the fairways, I left after the third hole. Very nice views of the area but clearly hurting for funds. Left to itself it would make a great pasture.
Would not play regularly
This course is challenging enough and when you add in poor conditions for the fairways and inconsistent bunkers, it makes it frustrating at times. Also, we played in the afternoon and really got blown around, especially on the back 9. The ground is so hard as well that most times you are bouncing your irons on fairway shots and hitting it thin. The greens were actually the best part of the course. If it weren't for the views and some creative course layout, it would really be not worth it.
Fun course
Pretty views of the bay. We had 3 first time players but still had fun.
This golf course worthy to play reasonable price fee is good.
Mare Island golf course best for challenge at fairway way good. And green putter us med fast more slope.
Mare Island-The Oldest Course
Good course, windy and yet playable. Greens had been recently aired...should have been notified.
Spring Golf at Mare Island
Mare Island's golf course, like so many Northern CA courses, is fighting to stay green and be an attractive playable track. Brown fairways with some hard pan areas are not unusual. The greens are well taken care of but the bunkers mostly lack decent sand.
We played in early April and got all kinds of weather... Sunny, rainy and windy as well as calm...
With only one par 5 and 3 par 3s, the par 70 is somewhat misleading as the par 4s have plenty of challenge and the newer side of the course has larger undulating greens.
Great views of the San Francisco Bay abound but you need to keep your head in the game and be prepared for various weather conditions.
Awesome course
Staff were very accommodating. awesome course for beginners and advanced players. Would definitely come back.
Well said, I concur.
