About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Great layout
Wonderful course with good variety of holes. Conditions were outstanding but the greens were extremely fast and unfair for most amateurs .
Pro hints on the in cart GPS were very helpful.
Don’t understand why par 3 tee boxes were using mats????
Due to COVID clubhouse was not accessible.

Great Pace of Play
Anytime you get around Poole in under 4 hours is a treat....3 hr 45 min today. Greens are really good right now....got a little speed to them. Rest of course in very good condition. Just play from the proper tees for your skill level and you'll enjoy the course.

Gotta Love Golf in the Fall in Raleigh
Course was in really good shape, pace of play was excellent for a beautiful fall Sunday afternoon.

Greens are Good
Overall, course is in very good condition, a little spongy around the greens.....it would be nice if people would repair their ball marks on the greens...I fixed 3-4 on every hole....and unfortunately, they weren't mine!!!!
Don't know if it was the cart I picked but the cart GPS was worthless......gave the wrong hole, wrong distances, etc....was glad I had my GPS watch on.

One of my favorites in Raleigh area
This is a classic Arnold Palmer design. Tricky greens, punishing for poorly played shots, but ample room if you know the course. Playing proper tees is a must. The only knock I have for this course is the greens are bent grass, so nice in the spring and fall, but lousy in the summer.

Great Course
This golf course is great. The staff is friendly, the course layout is challenging and fun, and the practice area is beautiful. I would recommend to a friend and I play this course once a week.

Bentgrass Greens are Good.....Not Great
Overall course is in great condition. Greens are a little spongy, slow having just come out of the summer heat and watering season.....will be better come Nov. Fun layout if you play from the proper tees!

Cart Died
Great course, and have played multiple times. But our cart died on us just as we made the turn. Had to push it up hills on the cart path just to get back to the club house. Staff’s response was “Well, hope you guys come back”. $85 is a lot to pay for that.

The Best Golf Experience in Raleigh
This has to be my favorite course hands down. The course, even in October, is in immaculate shape. Everything was well groomed, sand was soft, greens were perfect, and the Course Marshalls as well as everyone working at Lonnie Poole was extremely nice. I will definitely be back, not just because how great of a course this is but because of the fantastic service you get from employees at the course. It was pretty busy since the weather was perfect but that didn't affect the experience one bit. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a great and challenging course that is not overly expensive compared to what's around the area.

Good
October is having it's effect on fairway. Bring a sand wedge. Nice facility. Course is long for me playing and walking. Lots of distance between holes and the walker path is not always clear. Not much right before you get into dead hay. Looks nice but it's punishing. All tee buses were nice and the guests were not obnoxious.
