About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Decent Greens, Plays somewhat long.
I booked this through GolfNow and wanted to add a third so I call the shop. The girl that answered acted like I was bothering her by asking for tee times. I didn't know what was open or if they would be accommodating. She was not. Which, I understand if people are lined up waiting but there was no one in front or behind us. We play somewhat slow, so we split off from the 2 people that were paired up with us. We were slowing them down, so we could've easily added the third person. Instead, I had to tell them they couldn't play. Scott was working the shop this morning. Super friendly and helpful. All the rangers were nice but the girls on the phone need some customer service training.
Greens were so-so but everything else was in great shape. Beautiful course. It's hard if you haven't played it before. You will use all the clubs in your bag. Not very tight, just well positioned bunkers and rough. I love the views at Lonnie. Tough to beat. It's hard to rate the value for the money. $65 per person is worth it if you're good. I'm just not that good and prefer to play cheaper rates until I get there.

Great Course
Lonnie Poole offers a nice layout with the ability to score well if you have control over your ball. There are plenty of scenic holes, with some long par 5s and unique par 3s. All in all its a great course with a challenging layout.

The course fairways were in tip top shape but I expected more out of the greens. They weren’t as clean as I thought they should be. The rough is incredibly thick, it’s nearly impossible to find a ball that goes in there so the course is made for those that can keep it straight. It was a challenge, I enjoyed it and will play again.

If you are not a good player don’t go to this course. It is not for beginners. If tend to loose balls left or right, bring at least nine.
If you are a player this is where you want to go.

Amazing view of Raleigh
Course. Was in terrific shape. Greens played remarkably fast and the sand traps had plenty of nice sand.

Challenging but Fun and Fair
Great layout.....fairways are mint condition....Bent Grass greens are going south with the summer heat.....they are being heavily watered. I'll be back to play LP in Oct.

Overbooked tee time.
The course was in good shape and the speed of play was also good. My one complaint, they over booked our tee time. There was a twosome and three singles all booked for the same 11:30 slot. Their solution was to ask one of the singles to step aside. An awkward situation since we didn't know one another, and no one really wanted to wait indefinitely until they could fit us in. Not sure how something like this happens.
