About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Almost Perfect
First time playing Lonnie Poole. The course has a beautiful clubhouse and really nice practice area. They only have mats on the range which is a bit disappointing.
Course layout is fantastic. Every hole is something different and the views of the Raleigh skyline is amazing. Only complaint about the course is the greens are very slow right now. Once spring comes along and they get a bit faster, it’ll be perfect.
Our group played from the red tees which is around 6500 yards. Nice combination of yardages on the holes. Better bring your A game because this course is tough, especially in the winter time!
Overall, fantastic course in the area that will be even better once spring comes along. Highly recommended.
Palmer delivers
Not a Wolfpack fan but they got something I love! Lonnie Poole is a great track maybe the best I've played and I live in Pinehurst. For the reviews giving this course less than 5 stars are not golfers and are clueless. Championship golf course! Well done!!!!

Slow greens
slow greens compared to other courses in the area but I guess that is to be expected in the winter and being bent grass. Like most courses right now very soggy conditions. But still one of the best tracks around.

A great, fun challenge
Great golf course. A little bit of target golf, a little links style, and for being in downtown Raleigh, amazing. Might be my favorite course in the Triangle.

Mix of Stranz & Ross
Today’s round (86) was a predecessor to the Great Conjunction in the sky . It was good to play into the sunset , as the location offered a great environment for viewing the sky.
Lonnie Poole sits atop a Raleigh skyline!
In my opinion the course is a mix of Mike Stranz and Donald Ross..
Excellent greens and overall course shape is very decent .
Their practice facility is amazing ,equipped with best in class driving range .
I would have to rate this place 9/10

Tough track in good condition
This is a fun and challenging course. Played in December when course was a bit wet and weather was in the 50's which I think made it play quite a bit more difficult. Its long but offers a number of tees for golfers of all levels. Par 5s are really only reachable for really long hitters. Greens are very fast and have tons of shape. Was in a foursome and multiple times today saw balls roll off false fronts/roll 30 yards from a pin high shot after rolling down a tier etc.
This is a course you will really benefit from playing a few times/with someone that knows it.
Anyway- fun track, carts are very nice and give yardage to front/middle/back of green. Will def. go back.

Always good .pace of play sometimes an issue
One of my favorite courses
I wish people would be courteous with pace of play. Play Ready golf and putt when you are ready if someone is struggling around the green. Don’t have to have all 4 members of your foursome look for someone’s ball. Drop a ball after a few minutes. On cart path only- bring a few clubs. Saw a few folks running back to their cart to get the club right. Waste of time.
Most of us are not on the Tour so let’s move it along!
