About

Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough

areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Greens still healing

Greens seem to be taking along time to get better. I guess when they are good they raise the prices.

Amazing facility!

This is the nicest facility in our area with an amazing view of the city. Unfortunately the pace of play was unrealistic. Our Tee Time was at 1pm and our round was completed before 5pm. On 5 different holes, Course Rangers visited us to tell us to pick up the pace of play. I found myself jogging to hit my ball with no time to setup or use my GPS because of the rude rangers haggling us to move it along. Unfortunate, because the starter was a very friendly person with plenty of info and a smile.

Thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the rushed pace of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. It was likely a very full day, we work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and allow our guest the chance to complete their rounds. With that in mind, we are working to best control pace and allow everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve. We are glad to see you rated the course conditions, layout, and views to be great during your game. Thank you for playing Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University. We hope to see you again soon.

Beat the rain

Calling for chances of thunderstorms, but we decided to risk it. Played in 3 hours with great conditions because the chance of storms kept everyone away. Greens were aerated a week ago, but they still rolled pretty good. The only thing I would have the course do is have a few more signs directing you to the next hole because it can be a little confusing at times.

Aeration Recovery

Need I say any more, however I still made quite a few putts. Love this track it is still wet in front of greens so no bumping into the greens. Plenty of good firm sand in bunkers. Give it a few weeks to get the real course back in shape.
